“Had it on our list for Ankeny Chinese restaurants and so glad we tried it. Small place, 3 big tables. Very attentive staff. Recommended good combos. Fair priced food. Can’t beat 4 crab rangoons for $2.50! The packaging is super cute and high quality. They cooked the food after we ordered it so we waited maybe 5-10 minutes but it was piping hot when they delivered it to our table. Will 100% be back again. So glad we found this Ankeny gem!“

The patio is a great setting and one of few restaurants in DSM that can offer this setting My only suggestion is to make sure the patio is regularly hosed down and absent of bird droppings. “Absolutely delicious food! I traveled half an hour to get here and it was worth it. Definitely try out the mongolian beef and yuchang shrimp! The staff were also very kind and professional and even gave out complimentary egg rolls and crab ragoons for our take-out.“

“Good food, always fresh in my experiences with eating here. Doesn't cost a lot, and if you go away hungry from their buffet, it's your own fault. Would recommend to anyone. Also I've never been grossed out by the bathroom. That's a big bonus for me. After using the restroom I like coming out feeling relieved and clean not ready to shower as soon as I get home...cause eewwwww.... So thank you for keeping up on your restroom as well as the face appearance of your restaurant.“

“Ordered for delivery and the app was easy to use and quoted an hour for delivery. Before I could finish vacuuming and she was knocking on my door. This lady was so sweet!!! Now the food was... It was amazing! I ordered Mongolian beef and chicken with veggies. The egg rolls were perfect, light crispy and full of goodness. Both entrees were fantastic. “Friends visiting offered to go grab lunch and asked what I wanted. The wife called in our order and the husband drove to get it. The 3 of us agreed it was fast and delicious but not too heavy that we felt stuffed. We will definitely return here. YUM!“

Unfortunately, the egg roll was cooked well on the outside but undercooked on the inside and was also very oily.“

“They have great food. Ive eaten around and its mostly all good, but ive been wanting garlic chicken like it used to be... CHUNKS not slabd. Its made IMO using dark meat as well whereas the other is just slabs of dry, overcooked breastfeeding meat...

“We chose to check out in a lane that had a first day cashier. The girl bagging the groceries was very helpful to him and us. He accidentally double charged us and the girl took it upon herself to get the approval from management to get it deducted and get us going to keep the line moving!!! Very impressed!! “Huge shout out to Wasabi Johnston! My daughter wanted to go there for sushi for her bday dinner last night. I called ahead and asked if we could bring in a cake, etc... they were MORE than accommodating. They said whatever we needed! They kept it a secret until we finished our dinner. Brought out the cake, lit the candles, provided extra plates, a knife to cut it and were SO kind. Thank you guys all SO much! My daughter was thrilled (and embarrassed). Excellent dinner too!“

The soup was delicious and had a tasty broth, vegetables and a good amount of wonton! Not just dough, thick and meaty wonton!

“Cool Basil has been a long time favorite of my wife and I. We hadn’t been there in a while when we stopped in for lunch today. The atmosphere was noticeably different. They were playing a funky smooth jazz music where every song sounded the same. I liked the previous light/classic rock mix much better. The staff seems to have completely changed since we were last in. We didn’t recognize anyone, whereas we were on a first name basis with much of the previous staff. The service was noticeably slower and less friendly. The food was still very good. I ordered my usual spice level 2 and it was very, very hot. Much hotter than it used to be. I’m just wondering if they are under new ownership or management because it is a very different experience from a year ago. I still recommend Cool Basil, it’s just not the familiar place that we loved anymore.“
