“Our order was ready 10 minutes early so we were glad we came early. There was one table of diners in a relatively nondescript dining room but lots of carry out orders. Our egg rolls were tasty but without the traditional Chinese fried outside. These were pretty greasy but had more meat than vegetables which was a pleasant surprise. They came only with a Chile sweet sauce and it added to the taste. Our potstickers were just ok and had a slightly gooey exterior. \nOur main courses included Mongolian beef which was much higher quality beef than most places offer. Nice flavor and sauce. Our noodle dish with chicken was also flavorful as were the moo shu chicken ingredients. \nPrices were on the high side but the portions were generous and the quality deserved it. “I ordered the Dragon & Phoenix dish for takeout. The description sounded great: fresh shrimp, chunks of chicken, bok choy, mushrooms, snow pea pods, water chestnuts, and bamboo shoots. Unfortunately, the reality didn’t live up to the expectations.

The biggest issue was the chicken. It was dry, tough, and tasted like it had been cooked a long time ago and just reheated. It was very unpleasant to chew and really took away from the dish. The shrimp, on the other hand, were good — fresh and tender. Most of the vegetables were also fine.

However, the dish was missing two of the listed ingredients: bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. Their absence noticeably affected the texture and overall experience.

This dish could have been delicious, but the poor quality chicken and missing ingredients really ruined it. I hope more attention is paid to preparation and order accuracy in the future.“

All I know is I've continued to come throughout their transition and today at lunch was the best I've had. Accept their niche and you'll agree that they earn about 5 stars. Massive takeout biz sometimes gets in the way of the dining room, but not today at lunch. Oh, and the lunch specials are bountiful and served till 3pm. Beef Almond Ding, Fried rice, H&S soup included. Worth adding a traditional egg roll. Prepared, seasoned and rolled perfectly. I'm a sucker for pot stickers and the fried didn't disappoint either. I'll come again... Before 3:00, and enjoy a feast.

“My experience was both positive and negative. The food was pricey but well worth it since you can get 2 or 3 meals out of it. My wife's sesame chicken had an abundance or sweet and sour sauce. Too much for her taste. My shrimp eggs foo young was great along with the egg rolls. My pickup experience was terrible. The sign says "ring the bell"to notify them you're there. After 3 rings and 5 minutes with no response I called them to let them know I was there. They finally came out, no apology just pushed the order thru the plastic and sign the receipt. I ordered the chicken and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, pork egg foo yung, pot stickers and crab ragoon. When i tried that pot sticker, it was the most delicious pot sticker i have ever eaten. And the egg foo young, delicious! Tasty flavorful sauce and the patty texture, egg to bean sprout and meat ratio, and taste was perfect! I have been searching for that consistency in an egg foo young for years and finally found it here. The other dishes were delicious as well. I requested for the chicken and broccoli to be in white sauce. Yum! It was worth every penny. Take my money please! I came back again today. I had to. I got the chicken egg foo young and more pot stickers. An order for myself and one for my husband. He loves the pot stickers as well. While i was there both times, i saw a lot of people come in to dine in and get drinks. Seems like a very chill environment to come have some food and drinks with friends. I am very satisfied with this restaurant. It has been a royal experience. Hope they stay open for the next 50 years!“

I live downtown and have visited his restaurants in Chinatown and Michigan Ave. The food is exception each and every time I go to either location. When the "coming soon" sign popped up in Highland Park, I could not have been more thrilled, considering the food at our local chinese restaurants refuse to raise the bar on their food. There is no better Szechuan restaurant in the Chicago area or beyond. The food, the staff, and the service are all exceptional and executed with perfection and passion. This has been the most anticipated opening on the northshore for a reason. Lao is simply unbeatable. I love it love it LOVE IT!!!!!“

For some reason these were the two best tasting meats I’ve had at panda. We go a lot, so this is saying a lot.
