I ordered a capp with an extra shot of espresso, oat milk, and their seasonal apple spice syrup. Perfectly balanced (I even forgot to ask for it half-sweet, like I usually do, but my coffee still tasted like coffee, not like straight sugar 🙌🏼 - much appreciated!!)

Coffee was quick to come up, and there’s plenty of street parking in this sparse industrial neighborhood.

“My God, this sangwich will make you feel that things might just be ok and forget for a moment what a dumpster fire of a time we live in. The lamination! Look at these luscious layers of pastry hugging eggs and some crispy plancha sausage! Look at them! Few things are perfect or capable of changing your life. “the decor is awesome!! but my drink was a little disappointing. i ordered an iced latte with easy oat milk, add cherry & almond syrup. i didn’t taste any syrups at all, it just tasted like a regular latte with no modifications. for $8 i feel like i should’ve been able to taste the syrups but it was too late for me to go back to ask if they would remake it for me by the time i tried it.

EDIT: the owner made it right so i’m really appreciative! will be back! 💕“

“Deserves more than 5 stars! WONDERFUL experience each time I come here. Everything made from scratch. Not just pierogi ---Gelato, soups, empanadas, tamales, pizza pie (takes 50 mins to make from scratch and worth it!!) Premium Belgium chocolates, shakes, Coffee and most recent.....160 (yes one hundred and sixty) different premium teas from around the world!!.....and more to come! They also own the tea room and book store next to the cafe. Owners are THE BEST! Welcoming, personable and humorous. Dinning outside available and pups are welcome! You can tell they have a passion for the business. HIGHLY recommend! ENJOY!“

The barista was very pleasant and happy to take my simple large mocha order. it was made perfect and tasted delicious. i sat outside and enjoyed my cup while also enjoying the free smells of them roasting coffee. “The owner is so welcoming, and let’s not even get started on the food! I had the chorizo and veggie skillet, and he was kind enough to let me try a bit of both. The coffee was amazing, too. My friend ordered the poblano crepe (of course I had to taste it), and that was absolutely delicious as well! Like he said, “when you go there, he wants it to be more than just good food …he wants it to be an experience”, and he truly delivers!“

“It’s cute little coffee shop on a great spot on the corner. It has a small menu of the classic coffee options like latte and cortado, and they have 3 syrup options of lavender, vanilla, or mocha (nope, no caramel!). I forget how small the 8oz is it fits so cutely in my hand but it was a good amount of coffee for my walk home. A bit higher prices but it’s a small business supporting our community! Plenty of seating and space to study, work, or chill!“

“I came to Gretel in Chicago with a few friends and had such a great experience! The atmosphere was lively but still cozy — the kind of spot that feels perfect for catching up over good food and drinks. I ordered the Monarch cocktail and the signature Gretel Griddle Burger, and both were amazing. The Monarch was perfectly balanced — refreshing, smooth, and beautifully made. The burger absolutely lived up to the hype: juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly even though the place was busy. Between the great service, relaxed vibe, and delicious food, Gretel definitely impressed me!“

“This is my first time here, and I have to say I absolutely love the atmosphere! It is so pretty inside and it's so clean. The staff was super nice.
The only negative thing that I could say was that it did take a long time to get the food even though we were the only ones in there and for what we bought it was really expensive. I thought we were going to get these like full sandwiches and they were these little tiny bitty appetizers.
We also ordered drinks the refreshers and they were so good. I highly suggest to get them with water not with lemonade because they are very sweet. But my first time there and I definitely will be going back. Also you can sign up for points and earn free food.

“When I think about our trip to Chicago, the first thing that comes to mind, is Bang Bang Pies. I have never been in awe of such a place. The staff was so kind and patient. We had the most DELICIOUS pie and breakfasts I can ever recall. I can’t remember what my husband got because I am still drooling over the BLT with those earth shattering tomatoes that tasted like heaven. The biscuits were top notch and melted like butter in your mouth. And the pie! Oh my god that pie. It was the plum blackberry pie that I just know, I’ll never be able to recreate that as much as I would love to. Being from south Louisiana and having such amazing food up north was so unexpected and a wonderful surprise for us. Once we financially recover from all the money we spent while on our honeymoon (one of the reasons we were in Chicago) I’m ordering every single item online that I possibly can because I need to make sure that I can enjoy this place from home.“
