“Overall, a good place to grab some flavorful breakfast! Food is solid, coffee is decent, service is friendly and fast.Cool atmosphere with vintage feel. The double-walled/insulated coffee cups are interesting, but they keep the coffee waaaay too hot to drink for far too long, so it's tough to get through a cup before your food is eaten.“
“We were there towards the end of the night so the servers were ready to go home, dinner felt a bit rushed. I liked the food that I ordered (cheesy bread sticks and a small calzone). The house sauce was great for me I like sweet sauce and it was definitely sweet. My father got the mushroom appetizer and said it was not good at all, but he didn't tell me until after we left or we would have returned them.“
“This is a favorite for our family. I always get the lunch salad. It's all the pizza toppings on top of lettuce. Like a low-carb cold pizza bowl. It's excellent. Their fried chicken is also worth it or the pizza. They also have a back room for large groups that can be reserved in advance.Kid-friendliness: Coloring pages printed on the menu make life fun“
“We were pleasantly surprised with this place!!!! Not having high expectations being from out of town. The service was very friendly, quick service, clean establishment. And food was freshly made and crispy. We had a kids burger with fries, cheesesteak with cheese curds, and road house sandwich with waffle fries and cheese sauce. As well as fried walleye to share. The only thing I could recommend was adding something spicy like a salsa to the road house sandwich.“
“We came in with a big party (I believe we called ahead), and the service was prompt and accurate! They always do a great job with us and they know my parents orders without really needing told. ? My family loves it here. Thanks for being reliably good!“
“Just had a lovely Valentine’s Day dinner at the bistro. Everything was absolutely delicious with a beautiful presentation. We were delighted from salad to dessert, with fresh and interesting food and attentive, professional service. We highly recommend it for a wonderful experience!Dietary restrictions: Staff are very attentive to dietary restrictions and are very knowledgeable about their dishes and how to serve them safely. I so appreciate that!“
“Great food at better than reasonable prices! The service was excellent. The only reason the atmosphere is 4 stars is that it was a bit stuffy at the back few tables. BUT the restaurant is clean, neat, and I like the decor! My new favorite mid-range expensive food joint!!!“
“We ate here around 7:30 am I had the biscuits and gravy and some cottage potatoe best breakfast I've had will come here again they made us feel like we knew them for ever best environment to be in love the staffKid-friendliness: They loved us and our children like we knew them for years first time being in there will come back“
“Went to visit University Dogs while in Decatur for work. Ordered a steamed chicago style hot dog and small order of fries. The service and atmosphere of the place was pretty nice. The hot dog was pretty tasty. The only complaint I have regarding this place is that the fries are not that good unfortunately. But I would definitely recommend the Chicago style hot dog.“
“first time eating here today will say the food was pretty decent the beans was good the burnt ends was alittle dry but not horrible the coleslaw wasnt the best we ate in and it wasnt very clean there were dirty tables and the floor was so slippery from grease i almost slipped but the guy who took our order tonight was friendly so over all it was a good visit but needs to clean up inside“
“Your basic mom and pop, hole in the wall with delicious comfort food. Never had a bad experience in the numerous times I've been there. Early morning or during the lunch rush, I've always gotten my food fast and hot. Had a grumpy waitress now and then but nothing that would keep me from coming back.“
“We took our daughter and grandson here a couple weeks ago for an early dinner and our server was amazing and very friendly. My daughter and I both had the taco salad that was on special and it was so big we could have shared one and still had left overs. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and white gravy. The tenderloin was as large as the plate. The gravy however was not a white gravy but instead sausage gravy. I’m not a chef but I do know the difference between white gravy and sausage gravy. Who wants sausage in their mashed potatoes that’s served with pork tenderloin? Lol.They have their regulars who sit either at the counter or share a large table and I’m sure talk for a hour or so daily, that tells me the rest of the food must be decent. I was not impressed with paying almost $60 for three adult meals and a child’s meal but nowadays it’s to be expected I guess. If you haven’t tried them I suggest you go and see what you think. Very clean tables and floors.Parking: Handicap parking available and plenty of other spotsKid-friendliness: Nice child menu selection, high chairs available if needed, lids for drinks when requested.“
“My 1st time here. (I'm not from Decatur). Loved it! Great atmosphere, clean, polite staff, and the food was delicious. (I love your chili too!) Prices are reasonable. It was an all around great new experience for me and I will be bringing new customers back. See you soon!“
“Who says you have to leave Decatur to find great food?Downtown has some nice spots including Taproot on Merchant.Check out their 8oz filet mignon! Delicious..and the hearty Chicken Primavera soup is also quite good..... except for the overabundance of PEAS!! Lol...like a third grader, I had to pick those babies out so that I could enjoy the rest of the soup! Thanks for the great service Jim and Allie !Cmon back to downtown Decatur for an evening out!...“
“Very relaxing atmosphere at all times, good food! Great vibes! All walks of life interacts at this location, for the most part and it's always... satisfying experience for the customersKid-friendliness: All ages are guaranteed to have a great time, along with eating great food“
“Standard dive bar with good food. Mainly an older quiet crowd. It gets younger on nights/weekends. Dinner for 2 with couple beers and couple rum/cokes will run $40 to $60 before tipKid-friendliness: Kids welcome anytime kitchen is open(closes at 9)“
“I was passing through town and needed a late night dinner. The Gin Mill far exceeded my expectations! The staff was friendly and overly attentive. Food was beyond delicious and cooked to perfection. The place had a very relaxed, chill atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping by to experience this hidden gem of Decatur.“
“Food is absolutely amazing I don't know about any of you but have you ever had food that the first bite was just so good you almost start to cry well yeah that was just me and you will find that here l!!!! 5 star all the way great service and all just a wonderful atmosphere!!!! Will be eating here a lot from now on!! ❤️?❤️“
“I first discovered them in Granite City Illinois in the early 2000's. That location closed and I thought I'd seen the last of them, so I was super-excited to see that the had come to Decatur when I came back to care for my mom. Love this place, love the staff, love the food!“
“I ordered the Friday Fish Fry dinner. Overall it was pretty good. Need to be more consistent with pieces of fish size, & how it is prepared. My husband ordered smokey grilled chicken dinner. He said it wasn't as flavorful as he thought it would have been. Service was good. Overall a good experience.“
“Food was fast and delicious! The bartender/waitress was on the spot and very polite and helpful. We had 3 appetizers, wings and th western burger and it was all very good. If you're looking for good food give them a try, you won't be disappointed!“
“This is a small bar and pool hall with friendly staff and the best fish sandwiches in town. They are always made fresh and I’ve never been disappointed. I’ve never dined in (I drive from across town just for those sandwiches!) but It feels like the kind of place where everyone knows each other and strangers always make fast friends.“
“Was in town for a concert and before heading back home my friend and I wanted to grab breakfast. We decided on this location because it was close to our hotel. We were a little confused as we were driving and following GPS directions. We were close to the establishment but what we were seeing was an airport. Come to find out that the restaurant is at the airport. We walked in and noticed a buffet and we were told to choose anywhere we'd like to sit. The restaurant has a cute decor and I loved the large windows where you can see the planes take off. The buffet had eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, cheesy potatoes, pancakes and they also had a few sweet pastries. I really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. It was the perfect amount on flavor for me. My friend thought it was a bit bland but I thought it was perfect. My most favorite thing was the cheesy potatoes. They were sooo good! Hash browns loaded with cheese!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Coffee was strong and service was good. Breakfast buffet was affordable too. If you are looking for a no frills breakfast then this is the place for you. Really wish I was closer. I could see myself being a regular.“
“I’ve visited now 3 times in the past 6 weeks for breakfast on a weekend morning. On each trip the food and service were excellent and consistent. The bacon is some of the best bacon I’ve ever had in a restaurant and the waffles are awesome. That butter makes it better!Keep up the great work!“
“This is one of Decatur’s hidden gems ?.. Have so much to offer & The owners aren’t easy to pick out because they are definitely humbled & Beautiful inside & outside, They are a grounded couple who mix & mingle with their customers & They work just as hard/ If not harder than their staff. Love’em both! ?“
“Mushrooms were fantastic! They are sliced and breaded. So good! We tried the jalepeno melt. We had ours on sourdough. It was really good. Hot cheeseballs were pretty similar to what you get at other places. Overall, really liked the food! There are several other items on the menu that we'd like to try. Decent PBR special the day we were there.“
“In town for business and wanted a good local spot. On a random Tuesday night, they were busy. One lady was there running the bar and the dining room alone. She was a superstar! The food was great. Drinks were perfect. The kitchen was hustling to keep up, and all the food was hot, and the orders were right. Highly recommend, but get that great lady some help!“
“Love this restaurant, always coming back.Kid-friendliness: Coloring books available, kid friendly sized dishes, amazing family atmosphere.Parking: Plenty of room to park.Wheelchair accessibility: 3 entry ways wheel chair accessible in all 3 doors.“
“We had a small retirement party for my mother in the back room. The staff was very accommodating and let us bring in party tablecloths, balloons, dessert, etc. We had a group of about 25 and we all ordered appetizers, dinner, and drinks and the wait staff was on top of everything! The food was great and it was overall just a wonderful experience! We’ll definitely use the Whit’s again for future celebrations.“
“Family friendly and the people there make you feel like your part of their family.Kid-friendliness: The ladies that work there are the best so far they have watched my little guy grow from pregnancy to a toddler and he is absolutely in love with Stephanie“
“It's a hole in the wall bar, and I love those. Very busy but the wait staff found time to be calm and collected even though they were getting slammed. Waitress was so nice, had recommendations and didn't even write our order down, she remembered it! Great beer on tap, nice atmosphere, good food! I'll be back, I got wings and a side salad. Thanks guys!“
“I never was a Culver's fan years ago.. but recently they have made leaps and bounds with all of their food. It's fresh and the Deluxe is just perfect. The ice cream is dreamy. I love this spot. Why would anyone go to McDonalds just down the road over Culver's is beyond me.“
“Food was ok, service was good. A little bit expensive. Went back for valentine's day in 2024. We ordered the "prime rib" mine was not edible. My wife's was marginally better. The manager offered to comp her meal some and later the server would not. It was valentine's day at 6:30 pm and it was not busy. It seems like this place is going downhill. We were disappointed.“
“The tap beer we had was good. The service was good at the bar. I hear they have good mixed drinks. The crowd that was there was not my type of crowd and it was very packed. It is not a large area inside so I feel like they shouldn't charge as much as they do to get in... The DJ was ok and I'm not sure if he takes saying requests or not. Maybe it would be a better experience when it warms up outside so we could be outside if it's too packed inside...“
“Food is really good. This place has come along way from just a few years ago.Update, food is still really good and the best omelet in town in my opinion. The only downside is they occasionally mess up the order so check your bag and you should be good.“
“Our reservation was at 7 and we were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server was extremely friendly. Drinks came out almost immediately and our appetizer was ready quick and was delicious. Main entrees came out in a timely manner and everything was cooked perfect. Highly recommend and we cannot wait to go back!“
