“This is an absolute hidden gem of Mundelein!!! Everything is seasoned so well, delicious food, priced fairly, great service. We have tried so many Mexican restaurants all over town and this is hands down the best. We’ve eaten here lots of times- the tacos are always amazing, tortas, burritos too. I’ve had a few of the Mexican classic dinners. Never any complaints. Check it out!!“
“We had seen the restaurant when patronizing La Michoacana so we decided to try it out. The restaurant is very clean and bright. I had enchiladas suiza with chicken that was excellent. My companion had the pechuga with vegetables and she could not stop eating it. Even after she said she wanted to "save some". The only "bad" thing is that my diet Coke came in a can and I assume refills would cost more. Otherwise, a great lunch experience and we will be back!!“
“I got a coconut banana smoothie. It was really good, I liked it a lot. Perfect level of sweetness and as by the picture, you can tell it's pretty natural. It isn't neon colored and it tasted authentic. I'm going to definitely be returning to try other flavors as well as try their other items“
“I stopped by for the first time at this little shop for a quick bite. Got myself my usual favorite choice, steak burrito. Turns out this shop is a must have! Food so good, felt like it was imported straight from Mexico, no layovers. It was soooo good. It's been over a week and I still think of this little shop.“
“Probably the only place left where asada tacos are $1.50 everyday not just on "Taco Tuesdays" they use the smaller 4inch Tortilla but they do pile it up with meat 4 of them will get you full. Maybe call ahead to order or just be prepared to wait a bit longer then a actual taco shop, Think they make them made to order which is good and bad. Side note they also had prepaid cold shrimp(Cevichi/Aguachile)by the lbs ready to eat which you don't see very often in mexican grocery stores and looked very delicious. My only criticism was the wait time.“
“This is a great Mexican restaurant in the Chicagoland area. If you're in the neighborhood on Montrose off Oak Park Ave, this is a must. They make their own tortillas right in the restaurant. Always fresh. Interesting to watch also. The restaurant has excellent stained glass windows. The staff are always friendly, accommodating, and quick. I have loved this place every since we installed a new gas service in the restaurant. The owner came out with food for whole crew. Chips and salsa, guacamole, peppers. Tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas for everyone. It was so kind of him. We loved the food and many of the crew came back to eat with their families. It is my wife's favorite. So we come there regularly. I can't say anything bad. This is a restaurant that does it right. God bless. Viva la Mexico.“
“3lbs carnitas family special rice, beans, 12 handmade tortillas, 1 salsa for $55 we were 4 people had each a drink total $84.00!! We felt it was a little pricey for carnitas but overall good. Everything is expensive when you go out and eat now a days.“
“I love this restaurant the food is a bomb ? ? I would really recommend the fajitas or the chicken burrito? also the Milanese de pollo torta. Really good service waiters are really nice Best tacos and food I have ever tried I woul really recommend coming here ??????????????? I've seen some reviews complain about the kids but I really se no harm in it not bothering anyone owners are really nice people“
“No complaints whatsoever! My go to Mexican restaurant in Mundelein. Staff always friendly, food always delicious, guacamole always tastes fresh! I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant and I always leave fully satisfied. Five starts is not enough for this place. The food always exceeds my expectations and they have the best Horchata in town. I order and the food comes out no more than 5-10 minutes later.“
“El Barrio has been around longer than I have been alive. A family run restaurant that serves authentic and delicious Mexican food. The staff is experienced and friendly. Prices are reasonable and there is always room in the dining area. This is a gem of an establishment in the heart of a residential area. Their guacamole is some of the best around. Go and you will feel as if you are sitting in a barrio.“
“Third time here, each time consistently high-quality, including and surprisingly, the drive-through. When eating-in: was immediately provided with chips and FIVE very different homemade salsas (unsure if paid or free, happy to pay because of how excellent the salsas are). Both waitresses are very kind and attentive and I appreciate that when they poured my horchata they didn’t fill it 99% full of ice. And the chorizo used here is outstanding (if you enjoy heavier clove/nutmeg/etc). Seat by window was a bit chilly but I quickly forgot when the food arrived. Will absolutely return again. Keep up the great work!“
“Delicious Tamales! Ordered for a group at work and was pretty impressed. The people working were very kind. The tamales were fresh and flavorful and moist, especially the red pork tamales. Overall happy I found somewhere close so I don't have to drive to the city.“
“I came in from out of town and was looking for quick take out. I ordered four pork tamales and chips and guacamole, and I was not disappointed! The tamales are so huge, I got two meals out of the four! Delicious with the salsa, crema, and queso fresco provided with my order. The guacamole was also top notch; nice and chunky with lots of flavor. There is either sit down or counter service, depending on what you’re looking for. If I lived in town, I would definitely be a regular!“
