The ambiance strikes an ideal note—refined yet relaxed—making it a natural choice for a pre-dinner aperitif or a lingering post-meal nightcap. During a recent visit, a live singing group added a festive touch, infusing the space with genuine Christmas cheer without overwhelming the intimate atmosphere. While we have not yet sampled the food, dishes arriving at neighboring tables are beautifully presented and look enticing, suggesting the bar program is thoughtfully complemented by the kitchen. Taylor’s on Toft is a standout in Antioch: a place defined by gracious hospitality, expertly made cocktails, and an atmosphere that invites return visits. Highly recommended.“

The first time I went, I got the Ruben and a Guinness which was amazing and packed full of beef and layered with Swiss cheese and Sour Kraut. The second time I went and got the Buffalo Chicken Pizza which lived up to the bar set by the Ruben. I got another Guinness and a Basil Hayden and Basil Hayden Toasted both neat and with water backs. While enjoying my drink I had an amazing chat with the bartender, who is very knowledgeable about mixology.

Overall, the best place in all of northern Illinois to get a drink and food with family and friends.“

We also really enjoyed the conversations with the bartenders — friendly, welcoming, and genuinely engaging. I mentioned that I appreciated the TVs being on the same channel, because when multiple screens are on different channels, the flickering lights can be overwhelming for me. I’m disabled and live with Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD) and CPTSD, along with chronic migraines. The sunglasses I wear help reduce light sensitivity from LEDs and neon lighting, and the staff was kind, open, and understanding when I explained this. It meant a lot to be treated with respect and curiosity rather than judgment. The bartender was friendly, approachable, and handled the conversation with warmth and professionalism. Great atmosphere, great people, and a place that makes you feel welcome. We’ll definitely be back.“

“Broken Oar is always a great time, especially on a summer Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere is lively, the crowd is fun, and the staff is consistently friendly and attentive.

We came by boat just to grab a few drinks and appetizers. Everything was good, but the churro fries were the standout of the day—absolutely worth ordering and highly recommended.

My only complaint is the docking situation. Getting from the docks to the restaurant requires walking through muddy, sandy terrain, which isn't ideal. More importantly, the docks sit very high above the water, and the exposed metal underneath ended up scratching our boat. If you have a typical recreational boat, I'd honestly think twice about arriving by water, as there's a real risk of cosmetic damage.

Despite that, the food, drinks, service, and overall atmosphere keep us coming back. We'll definitely be back—just probably by car next time.“
