“Update: Looking back 8 years later, we still remember what a fantastic experience we had at Skippers Restaurant. The food was excellent, the portions were generous, and the overall atmosphere made it a memorable stop during our travels.
The service stood out just as much as the food. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel comfortable from the moment we walked in. It had that classic local restaurant feel where you could tell people truly enjoyed coming there.
What really stayed with us over the years was the quality and consistency of the experience. Great food, good service, and a relaxed atmosphere are what make restaurants memorable, and Skippers definitely delivered all three.
As Mike & Amy’s Small Town Adventures, we have explored restaurants all across Illinois and beyond, and this is still one of the places we remember positively years later. Easy 5 stars from us.

“My husband and I came in tonight for 4 flights for our family. The place smelled amazing, the staff was welcoming and friendly. We waited a little bit for our food, but it was certainly worth the wait!!! My whole family loved it, even my pickiest!!! “Absolutely the best gyros I have ever had! They cut the pita in quarters, so it doesn't get grease soaked. Tomato slices were thick and fresh! Next time I'm craving gyros, they will be from Nikkos!“

“We went here to celebrate birthday and at 5pm on a Saturday, this place was already crowded. Food was good and would want to go back and try other things. Service was good and one thing I didn’t like is that you have to use the valet for parking.“

“Stingy about giving condiments. Asked for small sauce for side of gyro meat and register guy took it out of the bag after chef put it in bag because register guy said it I didn’t pay for it and it was extra. I asked how much it was he said 77 cents. Shocked at how Cheap Cheap Cheap this place was. He couldn’t just leave the sauce in the bag. Very very POOR CUSTOMER SERVE!!! Otherwise food is good.“

“I tried Chigger's for the first time today and had the Polish Sausage sandwich with extra onions...the only way I think it should be eaten. The Polish was good, service was fast, typical run down hot dog joint atmosphere with typical red baskets. My only beef is that the carry out menu DOESN'T HAVE PRICES...SO WHAT GOOD IS THE MENU?!?“

“Last night I went to dinner with some friends.
So glad we did.
The food was fabulous. We had fried calamari and one of the shareables mixed grill pikilea
Drinks were great. I had the patio Paloma.
Music was great.
Great ambience. Sitting out side dining and enjoying good music.
Will definitely be coming back.

“Absolutely amazing! The 1/2 Greek Chicken at The Gyros Factory is one of the best meals I’ve had in Des Plaines. Perfectly seasoned, cooked on the bone, and unbelievably tender. The rice pilaf and Greek potatoes complete the plate beautifully. A must-try!“

“1st time visiting this establishment. Very friendly and nostalgic atmosphere. Had their 1/3 burger and onion rings. It was fantastic!! Best burger I've had in a long time. Actually meaty and fresh not one of those frozen smash burgers. Can't wait for my next visit. Hope to try something new, if I can convince myself to skip the burgers. And did I mention very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!!“

“This place is clean with ample sitting room. Food is always good. They know what they are doing. You order and then you get the pager before you get the food. The menu has a lot of options. Because it's a large space, you almost never have to wait for sitting.“

“This is one of the best take out places ever. Menu offers healthy choices and yummy soups, as well as some down home fast food as well. Friendly efficient staff. This restaurant is clean as a whistle too. We love Dengeos.“

“Whatever you have a taste for, they have it here!! Service was fast and SO friendly!! Ordered 4 dinners, everything was prepared perfectly and put together for take out with such efficiency, and the portions are huge!! Everyone we encountered was so nice! We will be back for sure!“

“What gets me is the speed. Friday night, line out the door, and the food still lands hot and fast. The guys behind the counter will walk you through the menu if it's your first time and actually recommend something instead of pointing at a number.
It's tight inside, so it shines as a takeout spot, but I've eaten in and been happy. Portions are generous, prices are genuinely reasonable, and there's no attempt to dress it up as something it isn't. It's just good food, done right, by people who care whether you come back.
I've had gyros in Greece. This is the closest thing to it I've found around here. Five stars, and it's now in the regular rotation.“
