“Had an amazing meal at Kouklas! Was referred by a friend, and so glad we tried it. Meal comes one plate at a time (think full size tapas) and every dish was delicious. Ordered the Eggplant, Dolmades, Octopus, Branzino, and Soulvaki - it was all wonderfully prepared. Dessert was great too. Service was very attentive. Can’t wait to come back and try other dishes! “I have gone to Andros Taverna for many years now where I am never disappointed and always impressed with the service, the quality of food and ingredients, the atmosphere and the passion in general. Chef Doug Psaltis is a true expert and artist performing at the highest levels. The gyros are the best, best gyros in Chicago by far, the seafood world class, the homemade bread and pita are incredible. The foods and meats are cooked over wood fire, wood fire grilled. We had our daughters baptism catered from here which was excellent assortment of Greek food - this is a Greek restaurant you will go to for many years to come.“

“Had a hankering for some Greek food and wanted to do something outside of Greektown and boy, am I happy I did. The food is very authentic in the best way it feels like there’s a grandma in the back making all the food that just relocated from Greece to Chicago. something I didn’t really know was this is a very regional area of Greece that borders Turkey so there’s some unique flavor profiles that you don’t get at a standard Greek place which I really appreciated. We got the eggplant spread, which I’m usually not the biggest fan of eggplant and I really enjoyed it. It had some smokiness. It had some freshness from the balsamic vinaigrette and maybe like an herb, as well as a little punch of lemon very delicious. We also got the fried cauliflower that had a delicious whipped feta dip and The leak wrapped Filo dough pastry, which was very very good. As an entrée we got the duck gyro and it was some of the most unique yet delicious food I've had in awhile. Service was excellent. Also, you know you’re in for a good time when the menus are laminated yet the ambience is very curated. It feels like homey family run resturnat but by people care. i’ll definitely be coming back and be telling friends about this place.“

“Update: Looking back 8 years later, we still remember what a fantastic experience we had at Skippers Restaurant. The food was excellent, the portions were generous, and the overall atmosphere made it a memorable stop during our travels.

The service stood out just as much as the food. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel comfortable from the moment we walked in. It had that classic local restaurant feel where you could tell people truly enjoyed coming there.

What really stayed with us over the years was the quality and consistency of the experience. Great food, good service, and a relaxed atmosphere are what make restaurants memorable, and Skippers definitely delivered all three.

As Mike & Amy’s Small Town Adventures, we have explored restaurants all across Illinois and beyond, and this is still one of the places we remember positively years later. Easy 5 stars from us.

“Always loved their Greek pastries, they are the best, started going to them 60 yrs ago with my mom and dad. We were always going to Hellas for our parties baptisms and weddings. All our holiday needs were easily available for us. Unfortunately, we moved out to Poplar Grove, Illinois near Belvedere and have missed them greatly. Always love them and it brings a tears to my eyes, that they are still around. God bless them. My parents knew the owners personally.“

“My fiancé and I have been a gyro war. I’m a Skokie Dengeos girl and he’s a diehard Squabs fan. While it’s hard to compete with childhood memories after trying Squabs I totally get it. The gyro was perfectly cooked, the tzatziki was beautiful, the fries were delicious. The absolute standout was the customer service. I was having such a bad day. I confused the gyro plate with the gyro dinner and they took such good care of me. I had cried the whole ride over and left with the biggest smile and a plate of leftovers. 10/10 I will be coming back every chance I get.“

The owners are dedicated and super nice and you can byob to the patio in the summer. To us it is a staple of 3 to 4 times a month, fresh food, very good seasonings and great tzatziki ,super fresh pita as well. It is better than more of the larger restaurants in Greektown and not greasy like many storefronts that do Gyros.“
