“Asked for "everything except no mayo" on my sandwich. Poor lady started by putting mayo on it (probably out of habit since most folks want mayo) before realizing her mistake - even before I did. She apologized profusely and had them remake me a sandwich. It was literally the most minor inconvenience in the world that cost me a whopping 2 minutes of added wait time, but they still snuck a free chocolate chip cookie in my bag. Completely unnecessary but much appreciated! Yay for people who actually care about their customers (even though, again, in this case, it barely even qualified as an inconvenience to me, lol). Also the sandwich was delicious!“

“This review is not specific to the Willowbrook Portillo's. It is for the entire chain. Portillo's is a Chicagoland icon. Starting with a humble hotdog stand, Frank Portillo built an empire, with 95 locations across the USA. While they all have the same menu, they are all unique in their decor and atmosphere. Usually, the restaurants have a Chicago theme; gangsters from the '30s & '40s, rock and roll, moonshine, or sports; plus, music to match.

Now, the food. Hotdogs,Burgers, Italian Beef, Salads, and Pasta dishes are the specialties of the house, and Portillo's has perfected them. Everything is made to order and cooked to perfection. Place your order at the counter and 5 to 10 minutes later, you have a meal that will ensure you that you must return to try something else from the menu. Or, like me, you can come back over and over to get one of two things: a burger with onion rings, or a big dish of rigatoni with meat sauce.

Now, all that being said, if you go, you have to save room for dessert. Portillo's makes THE best chocolate cake on the planet. And they give you a huge slice of it. I usually eat half and save the rest for another day. If you don't like eating cake, 1) I feel sorry for you, and 2) you can get the famous Portillo's Chocolate Cake Shake. Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like; a milk shake with a whole slice of chocolate cake blended into it. My daughter absolutely loves it.

So, if you are visiting the Chicago metro area, make it a point to visit a Portillo's restaurant. If you live in the Chicago metro area, why are you Rea ding this? You already know...“

“Yummy food....warm and cozy ciabetta dippers are back. Love the soup and 1/2 sandwich deal. My only complaint was when the iced tea was filled, some tea went on the lid and when I went to drink it, it dripped on my shirt. Ah well...should have looked. Everything else was perfect. “After a week of travel for this Mom, the last thing I wanted to do was to make dinner. This isn't the first time we've been to Glen Prairie and I knew it was just the place I wanted to go. The atmosphere is warm, but quiet. Perfect for a good family catchup. The food is comforting without being too heavy and the wine, beer and cocktail selection is the perfect pairing. We've had the pleasure of being served by Anna a few times now and she does a great job. She is attentive and watchful, without being overbearing which is a difficult skill to master for a lot of servers. Aside from that, I love that it is a safe place for folks with food allergies and I feel very well taken care of in respect to that issue. I can tell that everyone from the hosts to the servers to the bartenders to the kitchen staff are very well trained in creating a safe and welcoming experience for each guest. Glen Prairie is quickly becoming one of our go to family favorite restaurants and we will definitely be back!“

( Sandwich, fries, and drink) Delicious chicken with toppings and lots of mayo on a stand up bun. I don't like them to fall apart. “A lovely downtown sandwich shop. We got an Avocado BLT, Shrimp and Crab Roll, Turkey Club, and a Cubano. Everyone loved their sandwich and enjoyed the ice cream dessert too. And suddenly my carefully crafted sandwich strategy went right out the window. Instead of the steak sandwich, I audibled and went with three of the cheeseburger specials, because at those prices it felt almost irresponsible not to participate in the celebration.

Apparently the entire population of Lyons had the exact same idea.

The place was absolutely slammed. The poor girls behind the counter — Cecilia and Celeste — were running around in circles like contestants in the Italian Beef Olympics. Orders flying, people everywhere, the grill working overtime. They were hustling nonstop and doing their best to keep the whole operation moving.

Because of the anniversary madness, I ended up waiting quite a while for my food. At one point I started wondering if I might still be standing there when they roll out the banner for their 47th anniversary.

But when the burgers finally arrived? Totally worth it. Juicy, cheesy, messy in the way a proper burger should be — the kind where you need a pile of napkins and absolutely no dignity while eating it.

So yes, the wait was real, but between the great food, the anniversary chaos, and Cecilia and Celeste working like absolute champions, it was still a memorable stop.
