“A one style take away restaurant — which is a good thing. This place does sushi with just a handful of ingredients in each of the expected formats — rolls, sushi, sashimi, etc. The menu has been the same for years, with only modest changes. The preparation is mostly traditional, it’s generally fresh and tasty (though there have been nights where something is off). The cooler almost always has some grab and go options; otherwise, order ahead to make the wait more predictable.“

“Food and service is always wonderful and we were not disappointed this time. Our server answered in detail questions on the specials menu and his timing with courses was spot on. The food, as usual, was outstanding with all entrees done perfectly. Can't wait to return!!“

“Hotcakes is such a gem in Wilmette! The food is absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’re at a warm family gathering. It’s cozy, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. One important thing to keep in mind… they’re cash only, so come prepared. Between the great food, welcoming vibe, and genuine hospitality, this spot is definitely worth a visit!“

“I ordered the Chicken Burrito, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was fresh, tender, and clearly well-marinated — every bite bursting with flavor and perfectly wrapped in a warm, soft tortilla. You can truly taste the quality and care in the preparation.
I also tried the Steak and Shrimp Tacos, and they were equally impressive. The steak was juicy and seasoned to perfection, while the shrimp were plump, fresh, and cooked just right. Each taco had that perfect balance of texture and spice that makes you want to order another round.“

“Akai Hana has been in business for over 30 years, and the steady traffic means the sushi is fresh and safe, offered at a good price. However, the ambiance is lacking, with an outdated, cafeteria-like vibe and cheap-looking menus. It’s a solid spot for a quick, no-frills sushi meal, but not the place for a special dining experience.“

“I’m 40, and I’ve been eating Lou Malnati’s for as long as I can remember. I left Chicago at 18, and of all the foods I miss, this is at the very top of the list. There is simply no substitute for their deep dish pizza with that legendary butter crust. I’m a classic cheese fan, but the sausage chunks have become a favorite over the years, too.
This location has been our family’s takeout spot my entire life, and it still feels like home. They’ve done an incredible job scaling the company while preserving the soul of a Chicago family business. The food is consistently excellent, the pricing feels fair, and I’m genuinely proud to bring friends here when I’m back in town.
The Malnati salad is a standout, rich and flavorful, and the perfect way to start a pizza night. The storefront is easy to access, always buzzing, and the staff are kind, efficient, and truly embody the brand.
I’ve ordered dozens of frozen Lou Malnati’s pies shipped to the East Coast over the years, and they come impressively close to the real thing, especially with a high-functioning oven. Best tip: bake and eat them right away, and butter the pan. I’ve made the mistake of letting them sit too long in the freezer, and they lose a bit of their magic.
I’ve even worked holiday shifts in the warehouse where these pies ship from, so I don’t just love this place, I live and breathe it. Great family, great history, and a world-class pizza experience. The boneless wings and bruschetta are also excellent. The newer app and loyalty program are also a great evolution for the brand.
If you’re visiting Chicago, this is a must, and with roughly 60 locations to choose from, it’s a true Chicago institution you have to experience. If you’re in the North Shore suburbs and want a dine-in experience, the original Lou Malnati’s in Lincolnwood is fantastic for group dinners and highly recommended. This Lake Avenue location is takeout only and consistently delivers.
Highly, highly recommended!“
