“Stopped by Mazmez Middle Eastern Grill for the first time and wasn’t expecting it to be this good.

Ordered a mixed grill plate and everything came out hot and fresh. The meat was tender with a nice char, and the portions were actually filling. The garlic sauce and hummus were on point.

What I liked most was how consistent everything felt — nothing rushed, nothing off. Staff were welcoming without being over the top.

This is one of those spots you end up adding to your regular rotation.”

“Hubs and I came last night for an impromptu date night. The holiday décor was absolutely beautiful, you can tell a lot of effort and attention went into it. The staff were all super friendly and helpful! We arrived during the dinner rush, and given it’s the holiday season, I’m sure there’s an uptick in guests, but we were still seated within about 15–20 minutes, which was impressive. There is a one-hour dining limit during this season, I understand they’re turning tables quickly to accommodate everyone, especially having worked in the industry myself. However, I was really disappointed that every single item we ordered was cold. I don’t usually like to complain, so I didn’t mention it at the time, assuming it was just due to how busy the restaurant was. But after reading other reviews, it seems this may be a recurring issue, which is unfortunate. I’m not sure I would return, but on a positive note, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff were wonderful. Hopefully they can work with the kitchen to make sure the food is served hot, because everything else about the experience was great!”

“Walker Bro's was closed so on a whim, I changed the cuisine to Greek and was recommended Taverna Naxos; a hop, skip and a jump away. Walked in blind to any expectations and immediately was stunned by the ambiance, esthetics and cleanliness of the restaurant! I was the only patron and confused if they were even open. Michael, assured me that they were and gave me carte blanche on seating. The chef personally handed me a plate of bread and hummus and the flavor profile knocked my world off balance! When the Tzatziki & Kedfeh (Greek meatballs) arrived, my world stopped spinning in orbit. Each ingredient tasted as if it was hand selected earlier in the day!

The bathrooms were immaculate. The menu & specials looked as if they had just been taken out for their maiden voyage! This has got to be a date night hot spot, if it's not, do it!

I'm curious if they bring the ruckus under pressure of a full house but by look of it, they mean serious Greek business! Thank you, Michael, Head Chef & Taverna Naxos staff for altering my mood with the experience!”

“FYI- don’t take photos. I got into trouble for taking a picture. Wish they had a sign on the door that read “No pictures taking allowed”. Their food is very natural flavor that isn’t artificial anything. No high fructose corn syrup or anything super rich with flavor. To me everything tasted dull. I tried the brownies and they weren’t anything I would indulge in again. very light and natural. I did like the macaroons, those were excellent. I will definitely be buying them again. We spent $185 and pre-ordered our food for a mother’s day gift. We had to come and pick it up which was over an hour drive. But it’s the only place I know that makes 100% Organic since whole foods sold out to Amazon.”

“I love the atmosphere of this cute little cafe in downtown wilmette. It feels cozy, home-y, and made with love. There were unique drink options and I tried the spiced vanilla latte which I loved. They also have many food items and a small bakery that looked delicious. The inside looks perfect for getting together with a friend or for a solo date and getting work done. Prices are decent as well! Great place to check out! ☕️☺️💞👌”

“I’m a foodie, always down to explore unique flavors. And this place has many. Cafe con Leche, figs with cognac, Merlot with berries -YES! That one was my favorite. The authenticity of coffee and wine was very interesting to find in ice cream. The only thing I missed was the basic, crispy cones (they might’ve been out I didn’t ask) - the ones they had were way too sweet.”

“A one style take away restaurant — which is a good thing. This place does sushi with just a handful of ingredients in each of the expected formats — rolls, sushi, sashimi, etc. The menu has been the same for years, with only modest changes. The preparation is mostly traditional, it’s generally fresh and tasty (though there have been nights where something is off). The cooler almost always has some grab and go options; otherwise, order ahead to make the wait more predictable.”

Not only do they keep their food fresh and delicious. They also have the most experienced workers I’ve ever seen, working here for over 2 decades each and every one of them. Making sure everyone gets the proper preparations for their food. Would 100% recommend anyone who is either visiting Chicago, or hasn’t tried this place. Irving’s does it like no one else simply because of experience and also knowing almost all there costumers personally. Not to mention they’ve been open for over 50 years now! “Joseph values taste. Joseph values ingredients. Joseph values quality. (Quit talking in third person, Joseph! My wife says this ALL the time ?) Now how does "The Porch" shape up? Well you see, as for my three top values, they succeed in only one.
Now before diving into this food critique... might I add that this is in a furniture store. A FURNITURE STORE! So before Joseph gets all critical on ya (?)... bear in mind, people... the standard is low! So as a whole, I am thoroughly impressed.
However! I ordered the Turkey sandwich of sorts. The wife got grilled cheese. The daughter got a ceaser salad. The wife is currently in an argument with me (one sided, might I stress ?. Don't let her see this!!!), so she didn't let me have a bite of the grilled cheese. So we will ignore the fact that I could have done a detailed review for my loyal followers if only my wife was competent.
I digress!
The turkey sandwich was tasty. However, there's something about the ingredients and quality that are not up to par. It tastes like it came out of a plastic bag. Which it probably did. For goodness sakes, it a furniture store!
As you may be able to tell, Joseph is pissed off today due to family matters and I'm taking it out on Google Maps. So I must give a detailed recommendation about my sandwich to the head chefs (who are probably at a factory). First of all, the bread was soggy. It was wheat bread. First mistake. To make this worth the $11, it should be on sourdough and it should be thick. Second of all, there was too much moisture. Avocado PLUS limp onions PLUS arugula? Not to mention it probably sat in a bag for a week? Disaster.
But okay, I'll admit... it's overall an 8/10 sandwich. I say that each one of you reading this should come here. And hopefully you come with a happy wife!

“I ordered the Chicken Burrito, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was fresh, tender, and clearly well-marinated — every bite bursting with flavor and perfectly wrapped in a warm, soft tortilla. You can truly taste the quality and care in the preparation.
I also tried the Steak and Shrimp Tacos, and they were equally impressive. The steak was juicy and seasoned to perfection, while the shrimp were plump, fresh, and cooked just right. Each taco had that perfect balance of texture and spice that makes you want to order another round.”

“Has a nice ambience when you walk in. Food is always good, it's one of the reasons we come back. Clean and nicely decorated, I appreciate coming in and seeing the Christmas decorations. We are Eastern Orthodox Christians and celebrate Christmas on the 7th so it's nice to see the decorations.”

“Mariana, our waitress was wonderful. The teriyaki salmon combination was delicious, as well as the soft shell crab and tempura appetizer. The miso soup and cucumber salad that came with the combination was the best I have had. Topped it off with green tea and red beans ice cream. Mmmmmm!”

“Why do you keep going back if “every time you go” there is a problem? That’s seems crazy. I believe if they make a drink incorrectly they will remake it with a smile on their face. If they don’t have an ingredient what do expect them to do? I really like this location, they are friendly and are working hard to serve you. Out of Oatmilk? Have you addressed this with management? Maybe there is a shortage, transportation issues? Seems to me you just want to complain about workers who are making you something you don’t want to make for yourself.
