“Convito cafe has long been one of our favorites. Our kids give us gift card every Christmas. Consistent quality , keeping old faves on menu along with specials per season. Tonight my husband loved the calves liver and I loved the fettuccini with fro magic and peas and pancetta. We each enjoyed the Caesar salads. That's fromagia not magic. And your desserts are always yummy!“

“A one style take away restaurant — which is a good thing. This place does sushi with just a handful of ingredients in each of the expected formats — rolls, sushi, sashimi, etc. The menu has been the same for years, with only modest changes. The preparation is mostly traditional, it’s generally fresh and tasty (though there have been nights where something is off). The cooler almost always has some grab and go options; otherwise, order ahead to make the wait more predictable.“

“Mariana, our waitress was wonderful. The teriyaki salmon combination was delicious, as well as the soft shell crab and tempura appetizer. The miso soup and cucumber salad that came with the combination was the best I have had. Topped it off with green tea and red beans ice cream. Mmmmmm!“

“I got a sandwich and it was covered all over in copious amounts of ground black pepper. Both slices of sourdough bread? Coated in pepper. Fixings? Coated in pepper. It was enough black pepper to cause discomfort with every bite. The sandwich was literally bleeding black pepper. I did not order pepper. The sandwich does not come with pepper.
It was almost hilarious if not for the fact I spent real money on the completely inedible, peppery sandwich. To be clear: I have never had this problem with any eatery, restaurant, or cafe before. I guess someone either got fed up with their job or got bored and started experimenting in the kitchen or maybe they were just plain confused. I didn’t ask for salt or pepper. So why all the pepper? It was a decent sandwich, apart from the copious amounts of black pepper, which I had to scrape off. It was impossible to get it off the soft sourdough, so I had to deconstruct the sandwich and just use my stale baguette as bread. I was hungry, so I ate it, but the taste of pepper was still burning my throat.
Anyway. A note to whoever made the pepper sandwich; I give you five stars, because it had the potential to be a great sandwich. I know you work hard. But please do not grind black pepper until the sandwich is utterly covered in pepper, especially when the customer didn’t ask for pepper. Pepper is very strong. And too much of it makes any sandwich inedible. I am not mad at you, as I’d never been to this particular Panera before, I am just extremely confused. Thank you for making my sandwich, I might return again, but I mean… the amount of pepper that was on the sandwich could have caused someone a lot of discomfort.
I left this honest review and report of the incident because regardless if this was just plain confusion, a genuine attempt to make a good sandwich, or an attempt at hurting someone or the Panera itself by making a bad sandwich covered in extreme amounts of pepper (I hope not), maybe this Panera should take this as a learning opportunity and also as an opportunity to treat their employees better. In this economy, employees deserve to be treated better anyway. So regardless what happened that led up to this inedible pepper covered sandwich being served, you never know which customer will get a pepper covered sandwich and immediately assume the worst, or the best in an employee or your business. If management should care to make improvements, I’d just start with reminding everyone that pepper is strong, that copious amounts of pepper make sandwiches straight up inedible, and less is more. That’s not forgetting that I didn’t ask for pepper in the first place and I paid for a sandwich that was supposed to be edible. Treat your employees better! Maybe this was a simple mistake. But just let it be known that being kind and constructive with criticism has ripple effects and it has the potential to make everyone happy. I was still content with the insanely peppery sandwich in the end (my stomach still hurts), but I tend to be forgiving and maybe someone else wouldn’t have been.“

“Our best vegan experience in Chicago, and the least pretentious. We all ordered different bowls, each one delicious. Mine was filled with chunks of sweet potatoes, garbanzos, and avocado with lots of greens and rice. Low-key friendly service in a quiet cafe. If you're not a fan of fake meats and like fresh veggies, you too will enjoy Loving Heart.“
“The food sounded fancy and tasted SO good! Our server, Andrew, came up with the most delicious drinks! Superb service! We’ll be back!!“

“Amazing breakfast spot that was a random find while in the area. Great service and really cute atmosphere. Kids meals are free with adult purchase & the portions of my son’s teddy bear pancakes were huge! Actually portions of everything is huge. The churro French toast was incredibly delicious and included as a side to my omelette…small upcharge well worth it!! If ever in the area again it will be a must to to revisit!“

“I finally got a chance to check out and it did NOT disappoint. The burrito is SO good; tasty, filling, a little spicy, and truly the perfect size. The green salsa it comes with was also a really good spice level for me. I can’t wait to try more on the menu!“

“My favorite place to get take-out food of any kind in all of Chicago. For real for real. I've been going here regularly since 2008. Still as delicious as ever, and still economically priced in these tough times when the price of everything seems out of control. I wish them all the best now and in the years to come. A customer for life!“

“Ate there for the first time tonight. I am vegan and my husband is an Omni. Chef Bill came out and waited on us personally, and gave us menu recommendations, all of which were delicious! The ambiance was so relaxing and peaceful; it was a nice respite from a busy day and I didn’t want to leave. Reasonably priced as well: shared appetizer, two teas, two entrees, and two desserts was $60. Will definitely be back for many more dinners!“

“The dish I wanted to eat delivered on it's promises, and I was very happy about that as there aren't many restaurants that even serve Hunkar Begendi. They gave my friend a flan-like dessert for her birthday, which was a great surprise. The piano was a nice touch for ambiance, but a little loud for those sensitive to noise, but they will play happy birthday for you to sing to your loved ones. Al fresco dining is available, which should absolutely be utilized in nicer weather than we had.“

“This is a great spot. Delicious vegan goodies, including sweet baked goods as well as some savory options, and the owner is always so kind to his customers. It feels like a community here. They are dog friendly and don't mind if you bring your well behaved pup into the store.
I haven't been here in a while but need to come back! They even sell flour from a local miller who uses organic heirloom grain varieties. So unique.“

“Vegetarians can relax and order anything off the menu – – everything will be delicious and beautifully presented. The mocktails are much appreciated with their inventive flavors and the entire environment is lovely and soothing. We had a party of seven and everyone went home happy except my giant Nebraska-raised meat-loving husband who was simply content. Well, you can’t please all the people all the time, but you sure as heck are pleasing this vegetarian who is so so tired of steak restaurant after steak restaurant where I’m desperately seeking the sides menu for something to nibble on. Now this review seems to have turned into an analysis of a modern marriage, but that’s OK because we all got to eat, right? And it’s so nice to find fellow meat avoiders on the North Shore. Keep up the great work, Spirit Elephant! We’ll be back for Mother’s Day.“

“I have been a patient at a re hab center nearby for 3 weeks.Tempting me with different foods so I would eat better, she brought me a half of a turkey sandwich and supposedly a cup of vegetable soup.
I think the soup was a pint, it was fabulous, all veggies were cooked perfectly. When she pulled out the turkey sandwich without unwrapping it I thought by the Wieght I thought she got me a full one. I don't know how they make money. She was bringing them almost every day. I'm leaving here tomorrow and am really going to miss their food. I wish they really had one by where I live.“

“🔥 I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! 🔥
I’ve tried pho at so many places across the U.S., but this one is on another level. The soup base is incredibly rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying you can tell it’s made with real care and time. If you like spicy food, be ready the spice level is seriously bold and amazing! 🌶️
And the banh mi? Absolutely unreal. I’ve never had a banh mi like this before. The bread is perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and everything inside is packed with flavor.
Do not skip this spot. If you love pho or banh mi, this place is a must-try. I’ll 100% be coming back!“

“Despite word-of-mouth praises about the restaurant, my friends and I had a pretty disappointing experience at Breakfast House last Sunday. My girlfriend ordered the challah french toast, and the server was confused on which one she wanted since there are a few options. She clarified which one she wanted, and the server seemed to have gotten it. However, once we finally got the food, it was incorrect. Our server took about 15 minutes before checking on us after we received our food, and sent back the incorrect order. All in all, it maybe took 40 minutes between ordering the french toast and finally receiving the correct order (it should've been 20 minutes, tops).
On the bright side, while we were told it'd be a 20 minute wait for a table, we only had to wait around 10 minutes. The food and coffee were also pretty good, but the poor service put a sour taste in our mouths.
EDIT: Breakfast House kindly offered compensation for our experience and assured us that our next visit would be better. We look forward to trying again!“

“Celebrated my wife’s birthday here with three other families, as we were in Chicago between baseball tournaments. Not only was Coda di Volpe able to accommodate a same day reservation for a large party, but they went above and beyond, from personalizing menus with a birthday wish, to adding a special touch on dessert. With four teenage boys in tow, the menu provided ample carbs and comfort for them while we enjoyed a broad sample of the offerings - all were very happy with their meals! Cocktails and wine selection was also on the mark. Kudos to Jeremy and his staff. We came all dressed in white and he told us he knew he wanted to do something special for our party… they knocked it out of the park! Looking forward to coming back to Chicago and making a beeline for this restaurant… a no-brainer.“

“I recently was visiting Chicago and as a habit, I searched for Best Gluten Free bakery and discovered Defloured. What an amazing place. As a Celiac, finding good GF baked goods is rare to find. Wow what a selection. I purchased a chocolate cupcake, two love pucks, cinnamon rolls, poppy lemon bread, baguette, and aNutella sandwich cookie. Everything was really delicious. I mean world class quality. I now plan on making regular visits to Chicago so I can load up and fill my freezer with possibly the best GF baked goods in the U.S. I’ve tried a lot.“

“This might be my favorite business in the city. First of all, their draft menu is huge and rotates all the time. You can always find quality imported Belgian beer, but then you flip the menu over and there's loads of other unique beers. Some brewed in Chicago, some from other cities, and even some other imported stuff. I frequently find rare and unique beers here that I would have never thought to seek out. Plus, they have ciders and meade on draft.
Then, if somehow you don't see anything on draft you want, they have an entire laminated booklet full of bottled beers. Again, heavy on the Belgian stuff but plenty of other options too. They even have NA beers, gluten free, a good wine selection, and house cocktails.
All this alone is enough to bring you in, but the vibes are also immaculate. The place has a old timey, wooden everything charm and is covered in interesting branded beer signs. There's a second bar on the first floor and a third one upstairs if it's busy. There's garage door windows that they open when the weather is nice. And there's a gorgeous patio in the back. One of the rare places to eat/drink outside that's not next to a street or parking lot. I love coming here on weekdays to get work done when it's not crowded, or bringing friends to hang out on a weekend.
The food here is good too. It's not usually what draws me in, but the bread butter board or cheese board are always a nice complement to the beers.
My only complaint is that nothing here is cheap (I always end up spending $40-60/person just on beers). But it's so, so worth it.“
