“Food was outstanding. Wait staff seemed a little disorganized & confused about who was waiting on our table. As a result, one person in our party waited forever to get his cocktails. Restaurant is too small to have live music; very difficult to carry on a conversation.”

“Pomeroy is a cozy spot for French food lovers, but it’s on the pricey side. I visited with a friend; she ordered a salad with beef, and I had a salad and two glasses of wine. She had one glass. In the end, we each paid $80. It’s a bit surprising how fast the cost adds up. So, while the food and place are nice, be prepared for the price.”

“A friend brought me here for my birthday. It is a bit loud inside, but it is neat and clean with nice decor, lots of plants. :) the menu is all vegan, and has a variety of food styles. The appetizers are generous and good to share. While the entree portions are small, we did not leave hungry. The little dessert sampler they brought for my birthday was a perfect way to taste the sweets.Dietary restrictions: All veganKid-friendliness: Kids menu”

George Trois 64 Green Bay Rd, Winnetka French • $$$$
64 Green Bay Rd, Winnetka

“In September of 2023, George Trois streamlined from an 8-10 course tasting menu to a 4 course prix fixe menu with wine pairings. We jumped a the chance to experience Chef Michael's higher end cuisine under less strenuous conditions, and were very pleased. Our meal consisted of seared sweetbreads for me and goat cheese salad for Kelly, then splitting a dover sole , followed by saddle of venison for me, Tornadoes Rossini for Kelly, and then wrapping up with chocolate souffle. Everything was top notch. The sweetbreads were earthy and delicious and presented on a bed of polenta and adorned with an explosion of crispy fried leeks, which were like exquisite fried onion strings. The dover sole was perfection, firm and buttery. The venison was Chef Michael's classic preparation with chestnut puree and sweet potato gratin, in a huckleberry sauce. This is the best venison I have ever had and a must eat dish, which you can sometimes get at Aboyer, as well. I need to eat it every year. Kelly loved her steak and the chocoate souffle, a bit sized portion, was perfectly executed. Our wine pairings throughout the meal were exceptional, but they do not include the dessert course - at least they didn't that evening. No worries, though, as they have an excellent selection of bourbon. I strongly recommend my Francophiles visiting here as soon as possible, who knows when Chef Michael will go back to a larger format! George Trois is a private dining room inside the Aboyer restaurant. It has only 6-8 tables, depending on the arrangement and size of parties. The room itself is almost uniformly white, and brighter than you might expect or prefer for an elegant evening. It has a subdued vibe to it, but you will hear noise from Aboyer when guests or servers enter or leave the room. But these are minor quibbles and not something that detracts from one of the finest French dining experiences in the Chicago area.”

“Wanted to love it more. Lots of rapport between staff and patrons so it’s clearly a real local regulars place. Tables are packed in tightly. Felt like I was in the space of the couple behind us especially when I stood up.Beef bourguignon was very pretty but underseasoned. No detectable red wine taste to the sauce or meat. Beet salad was declared “fine.” We started with the spring rolls which were good and the potstickers .. good except the sauce with ketchup and sweet chili notes was a bit overpowering. All the appetizers on the menu were Asian except focaccia and soup. Desserts were enjoyed. Cocktails were good.Funny to see menu highlights in google maps include tiramisu, scallops, and hangar steak, none of which were on offer during our visit.”

Sweet Potato Fries

“First and foremost, the staff of any restaurant are the ones that truly keep an establishment running and thriving and are the heart and representation of the business. The hostess / order-taker and crew at Stacked and Folded, were super friendly to us and offered such great customer service! The atmosphere inside is very nice and offers an elevated casyal food experience.Even though the average taco is around $6.50, it is very large and offers a lot of the actual ingredients. This was the case with my short rib taco. The short rib taco did offer a little bit of that spicy hot but not too much which was good, and yes, was slightly sweet in the sauce as advertised. Overall, the flavor combination was very good and would rate it a 3.9 out of 5. It was just tender and juicy enough, but could even be a little bit more tender in the meat. I know it is not easy when it comes to short ribs and believe me they did a good job here! It is worth getting! We had also ordered the short rib sandwich, but I recommend to have the short rib in the taco form. It just taste even better with the corn tortillas! The sweet potato fries are a five out of five star! Some of the best I’ve ever had in my life. They are cooked perfection, and have that right texture on the outside and perfect on the inside. Amazing. Now as a cook, my (James’) critique is focused on the shrimp taco. Like every other item, Katherine and I had, the shrimp taco is made in a very fresh and flavorful, non-greasy and healthy tasting manner. What observations and what can be worked on from the creators of the menu is the following:The shrimp in your shrimp tacos-at least when we visited—was just plain cooked shrimp and was actually dry. My advice based on the best shrimp tacos I have ever encountered or made are taking thawed raw shrimp, then marinate them of course, and grill them briefly and just right so that they come out juicy and tender and with that amazing flavor profile. That would make your shrimp tacos a five out of five.”
