“Atmosphere was ok. Bit smaller than i was expecting and a bit of a hole in the wall. But clean with nice wall art. We came at 11:30 and it was not crowded. Got busy at noon. I saw the specials online. They were not on their handout menu so you may have to ask for them. The short rib wrap was delicious. Loaded tator tots were too intriguing to pass up. Generous portion enough for three or four. Delightfully cheesy . Like nachos but with tots instead of chips. Burger was greasy but otherwise fine. Sweet potatoe fries looked dark, like the oil needed cleaning but tasted fine. Service was fast and friendly. Unique choices. Try it.“

“I recommend getting the #7 Rajas Poblanas con Pollo torta. I am no torta connoisseur, but it was like no torta I’ve had before. Whereas most tortas are tasty sandwiches, this one was more like a tasty meal. The portion sizes are ample and I left feeling stuffed after only eating 1 torta with fries.“

My favorite item is definitely the Quesabirria—it's perfectly cooked, cheesy, and full of rich, authentic flavor. If you're visiting for the first time, I highly recommend ordering it. “This is our first time here although it’s a chain restaurant the food was very very good. I would not call it truly authentic Mexican food but for a chain restaurant here in the US great atmosphere great food and ask for Carlos when you’re in.“

“I sat in and got the birria tacos, and they were SO good. The horchata, churros, rice, and beans were delicious and tasted authentic too. I’m extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food, so I don’t say this lightly, but everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. The owner was also incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience feel really warm and comforting. You can really tell they care about the food and the people who come in.

“Ever since our former far north side Mexican go-to restaurant had a fire and reopened without the same quality of food we used to love, my partner and I have been looking for a new delivery and eat-in joint. We love how awesome the universe of Mexican food is here in Chicago but a lot of the eateries on the far north side are just kind of meh. Nobody deserves to eat meh Mexican food in Chicago, ever. It took us a year and a half to finally find Taqueria El Charro and we’re completely blown away. I’ve lived in Chicago for 21 years and he’s lived in Chicago almost as long. I used to teach English in Pilsen. Once I had a chance to move back home to New York City and I sat in a Chicago Mexican restaurant at 18th and Ashland and cried because I didn’t want to leave Chicago Mexican food behind. So, this place has some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten here in my adopted hometown. I don’t say that lightly. You don’t kid around with Mexican food in Chicago. I cannot emphasize how quietly awesome this place is.“

I was not having a good day but tried my best to not show it. As I'm eating I saw a man come in. Eat by himself and then left. My surprise when I went to go pay. This man had paid for my food. Who ever it was Thank you so much if this is ever read. That was a beautiful gesture and completely made my day. I got my son his haircut and took him for some ice cream afterwards. My kiddo got a chicken burrito dinner with rice and beans and load the rice and beans and even finished off the burrito.

There's a good chunk of breakfast foods with chilaquiles and breakfast burritos and full size plates and appetizers. The staff is super friendly and they offer 3 types of salsa stored in a mini fridge and free iced water. Last but not least they have homemade desserts including tres leches and flan that are on the top of my list for my next visit.“
