Vegetarian Restaurants near Porter

“Those who travel on I-94 and I-80/94 from Illinois to Michigan and vice versa will never know about Leroy's unless they divert their travels to U.S. 20. There in the town of Porter lies Leroy's, roughly a mile east of Exit 22, a place we frequently passed by over the years but never checked out – til last nite. And though a wee bit apprehensive upon arriving, those hesitations quickly vanished upon entry.

I read thru all the one and two star reviews and disavow them all. Admittedly it can get noisy in the main area (wherein lie the bar, band stage, pool tables and some seating arrangements), which you have to pass thru (a bit awkward) to get to the main dining area, (quieter but not totally devoid of noise). Compounding the noise factor were a few babies who let everyone know how they felt. But it wasn't too long before they stopped crying and the band concluded. However, regardless, none of it deterred me, my mixed race son or his black mom from having a memorable time. Whatever noise existed was compensated by a pure delightful atmosphere. Not quite what we expected but it was so cool.

From the moment we sat down (open seating) at the one remaining unoccupied booth (nice and comfy) til departing, all three of us had a wonderful time. The food was just simply darn good. The combo plate (mine), the chicken con queso (my son's dish) and chicken en mole (his mom's) were all tasty with good portions and fairly priced, something you don't often see these days. The salad was especially notable since all premium greens were used, no head lettuce or romaine. Impressive. The salsa could perhaps use a little oomph and structure but not at all bad. The complimentary chips looked homemade and blended in nicely, though they could have used some salt. We did initially ask for our chips instead of them automatically being delivered but as soon as we finished the first batch, a second was promptly delivered to our table. We also had to request sour cream as it didn't come with the meals but was also quickly brought to the table and also at no charge. The pop and free refills, served in decorative glasses, rounded out our great visit.

But as much as the food was worth what we paid for, equally memorable was the attentive service from the git go. We could not have asked for better. Nicole, our waitress, was superb thru and thru, perfect. Same with Brandon, her husband, who looked to be a supervisor and came to assist wherever needed (as he did with the bringing of food and drink). Brandon also took time from his schedule to chat with us at breaks and in doing so, he hit it off with us. Not something we obviously expected but we loved it. A great guy as well as his wife. Both individuals were the faces of Leroy's and they sold it oh so well.

We all don't have that kind of money to eat out that often but with the fine food, decent prices (good amount of selections for under $15) and unusually good service we'll have to find a way to soon return to Leroy's. Despite the noise, very highly recommended and worth the drive, regardless of whether you live in Hoosierville or just passing thru. Leroy's Hot Stuff is good stuff.

“This restaurant was a pleasant surprise on a cold November day! Our waitress was Rose. She was friendly and fast! The soup/salad bar was fantastic. Soup choices were beef vegetable or creamy broccoli. I choose the latter and it was so good! Salad part of the bar had many toppings, all fresh. It also offered many cold salads. Potato,cucumber, tomato mushroom,a Greek feta and olive pasta salad,traditional pasta salad and even more than I have mentioned. Again all these items were fresh. We also had the chicken tenders that were crispy outside, juicy inside and the Special of the day was Beef and noodles. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. You will not be disappointed.“

“We visited last night for the first time. Let’s just say we had a fantastic time. The waitress went above and beyond to make it a wonderful experience. She was very pleasant and welcoming. The food was fantastic. Sushi was amazing and our main dishes were delightful. We couldn’t believe the size of the menu. Something for everyone! We were given tea to try which was tasty and then given the same to take home. Just because she wanted to. We had a family member with a birthday and they came out singing with a drum and a special desert. She also came out as we were paying with more food to take home and try. She went above and beyond. “Came here at the recommendation of a good friend was definitely not disappointed. Its a smaller establishment so that was tough to deal with as far as anxiety goes, but we didnt have to wair long to be seated! Dexter aka Spicy White Tuna Roll was our server and he was efficient, friendly, and hilarious! I tried the Dragon Egg (what a masterpiece!) as well as the Autumn Lemon Roll (I LOVE lemon and was quite pleased). You get what you pay for here but it was an awesome sushi time!“

“Been eating here for years and recommending them for years if you want the best burger in Chesteron/Porter area. Some other favorites are the bacon wrapped poppers, steak or chicken flatbread, soups, and the only place I know that still has homemade pub chips. Just had my first ever minor issue with a cook on burgers and the owner addressed it and made it right. I am looking forward to their new bi-weekly specials to try some new items. “The breakfast selection is enormous and you receive a lot of food for a low price! Many people don't realize that there is a lunch menu and also a dinner menu. I don't know how this restaurant can supply large portions at a good price. They have an all-you-can eat fish dinner on Friday's and they have extended hours until 8pm on Friday and Saturday. “Food stayed warm after a 30+ minute traffic hellscape. Tastes like the pizza joints that used to be around my neighborhood when I was a kid. Wings excellent,if you like saucy wings get a side of sauce. If not theyre seasoned perfectly.

If you like pinball machines they have quite a collection. Manager was training new employee while I was there and they were doing an excellent job,kudos to you.

“I’m so done eating here.. i loved it for years but the fact that we ordered at 8:15. 45 min before closing. They gave us all the old food. Old hard dry rice, COLD orange chicken, OLD crab Rangoon. If you don’t want to cook fresh food at 8:15 say you close at 8 and i gladly would have gone somewhere else. 4 loyal years of multiple times a month taking out. Down the drain.“
