“Best Reuben sandwich I’ve ever had and the service is great!“

“Those who travel on I-94 and I-80/94 from Illinois to Michigan and vice versa will never know about Leroy's unless they divert their travels to U.S. 20. There in the town of Porter lies Leroy's, roughly a mile east of Exit 22, a place we frequently passed by over the years but never checked out – til last nite. And though a wee bit apprehensive upon arriving, those hesitations quickly vanished upon entry.

I read thru all the one and two star reviews and disavow them all. Admittedly it can get noisy in the main area (wherein lie the bar, band stage, pool tables and some seating arrangements), which you have to pass thru (a bit awkward) to get to the main dining area, (quieter but not totally devoid of noise). Compounding the noise factor were a few babies who let everyone know how they felt. But it wasn't too long before they stopped crying and the band concluded. However, regardless, none of it deterred me, my mixed race son or his black mom from having a memorable time. Whatever noise existed was compensated by a pure delightful atmosphere. Not quite what we expected but it was so cool.

From the moment we sat down (open seating) at the one remaining unoccupied booth (nice and comfy) til departing, all three of us had a wonderful time. The food was just simply darn good. The combo plate (mine), the chicken con queso (my son's dish) and chicken en mole (his mom's) were all tasty with good portions and fairly priced, something you don't often see these days. The salad was especially notable since all premium greens were used, no head lettuce or romaine. Impressive. The salsa could perhaps use a little oomph and structure but not at all bad. The complimentary chips looked homemade and blended in nicely, though they could have used some salt. We did initially ask for our chips instead of them automatically being delivered but as soon as we finished the first batch, a second was promptly delivered to our table. We also had to request sour cream as it didn't come with the meals but was also quickly brought to the table and also at no charge. The pop and free refills, served in decorative glasses, rounded out our great visit.

But as much as the food was worth what we paid for, equally memorable was the attentive service from the git go. We could not have asked for better. Nicole, our waitress, was superb thru and thru, perfect. Same with Brandon, her husband, who looked to be a supervisor and came to assist wherever needed (as he did with the bringing of food and drink). Brandon also took time from his schedule to chat with us at breaks and in doing so, he hit it off with us. Not something we obviously expected but we loved it. A great guy as well as his wife. Both individuals were the faces of Leroy's and they sold it oh so well.

We all don't have that kind of money to eat out that often but with the fine food, decent prices (good amount of selections for under $15) and unusually good service we'll have to find a way to soon return to Leroy's. Despite the noise, very highly recommended and worth the drive, regardless of whether you live in Hoosierville or just passing thru. Leroy's Hot Stuff is good stuff.

Some other favorites are the bacon wrapped poppers, steak or chicken flatbread, soups, and the only place I know that still has homemade pub chips. Just had my first ever minor issue with a cook on burgers and the owner addressed it and made it right. I am looking forward to their new bi-weekly specials to try some new items. “Our Mother's Day brunch reservations were accommodated, although service was somewhat delayed due to high volume. The food quality was exceptional, with the exception of the biscuits and gravy, which were not the best we have experienced. However, all other dishes were phenomenal. The owner's thoughtful gesture of providing complimentary chocolate-dipped strawberries and cookies for my daughter was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this establishment for brunch.“
