“This is my new spot, kinda like this hole in the wall place. Everything is fresh and the service is super quick. The owner is respectful and he also remembers the diners names and the stories they share. When you come in, you’ll be greeted and you can sit anywhere you like, the sushi bar area, or at the booths. The table will already have a printed out version of the menu and a pencil near by to mark off your orders. The sushi chef works efficiently and cleanly. Any hibachi fried rice is so flavorful and my favorite special roll so far is the Mexican roll, it has spicy tuna and the special part is the torch searing some of the fish on top of the roll that gives it a smoky touch. My mouth is watering right now, anyways you should give this place a try.“

“Chef Trevor is the kindest! The sushi is Amazing! I recently visited The restaurant for dinner after a long day of school my grandkids. And work myself. We were told by the hostess that there was an hour wait and that there was barely anywhere to sit so she advises that we could sit at the bar which we did the sushi bar that is. After waiting for some time Chef Trevor noticed that we were not being really engaged. He then asked me if the kids and I would like something to drink so what you said yes the hostess one of the waiters chef Trevor’s prompting, served us drinks as well as kept our cups filled Thank you! we were very grateful for the kindness that was bestowed upon us. The Hostess. After advising of the long wait, didn’t offer a drink of water nothing. Never engaged, never updated nothing. It was busy so I didn’t panic. We just waited. The staff are always nice and make you feel welcome. They check on you during your meal to make sure everything is good and that you have what you need. It feels like one big family when you are there.

What I like most is how much they care about their customers. When they found out I was sick, they checked up on me, and that meant a lot. You don't find people like that everywhere.

“So today I brought my family to UMI Hibachi and sushi in Chalmette to celebrate the twins birthday. We was given the lunch menu and ordered of the the lunch menu. I saw the the kids meal was $9.99 and the Lunch meal was $10.50. I specifically ask the young man what was the 50 cent difference between the kids lunch meal and the regular lunch meal . He told me that the lunch meal came with noodles. So I told him we’ll just give my boys a regular lunch meal. As he started to bring out the salad and soup I notice he only brought out one set for one of my boys. I told him I want the lunch meal for all of them. So he came back with more 2 sets of salad and soup. After we finish eating I get my bill and he charge us for the dinner combination Vs the lunch meal. I told him that not what I ordered. The dinner combination meals are $26.99 each . He said that we received dinner combinations portions so that what I have to paid for. First, I don’t have a problem with paying but that not what I ordered. I ask to speak with the manager . The manager send the waiter back and told him to tell us that there’s no negotiation it’s either we pay are else . So I’m the wrong individual to threaten like that. I send him back to his manger to tell her I’m not paying for nothing I didn’t ordered. The manager then came out and said the owner said that either we pay the dinner combination price or they was going to call the police . Now I feel very disrespected because you’re trying to make me pay for something I didn’t ordered, you’re also not trying to negotiate. So I told them to call the cop because the cop don’t scare me. The cop came and heard both side of the story . Ì eventually paid for what I originally ordered but the owner also ban me from the establishment. I’m writing this because this restaurant treated me and my family very unfairly. We went in there to celebrate the twins birthday because that what they wanted . If this was a black business ppl would blast them all over the internet. Please don’t go to to this business. Especially if you’re black… The owner wasn’t there but I know he knew I was black and while he was on the phone he kept telling the cop that I know he don’t want to paid . The cop kept telling him the guy has no problem with paying but only what he ordered. He ban me because they was wrong lol .. I already had it in my mind that I’ll never go back anyways .. Once again THANK YOU UMI Hibachi and sushi in Chalmette for messing up my sons birthday celebration…“

“We ate here again and it still has excellent quality and very good prices. Atmosphere was great. Wasn't crouded or loud making it easy to have a conversation. Plenty of tables and booths for seating. Had fried rice bowl which did have a lot of fried egg in it, very tasty. also had the Pork Tonkotsu bowl for $14 and it was delicious. this place is a hidden gem in old Gretna and close to Westbank Expy. Highly recommend.“

This is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans by a long shot. The food is phenomenal, the staff is the friendliest I have found at any restaurant period. The prices are super reasonable and are a large part of why I come so often.
My favorite roll is the Snow Crab roll.
They also have a great cocktail menu, but my favorite beverage they sell is their takara plum wine.“
