“This is the only sushi place I know that doesn't have both red and green label soy sauce on every table. I think they only have one bottle of green label soy sauce for the whole restaurant. It's upon request and and they will take it back at anytime.“

“This is my go-to spot for sushi in the city. While there are several more premium options for sushi, they come with premium price tags. None of them hold a candle to Origami in terms of value. The menu here is extensive, so it will be easy to find something for everyone in your party. The rolls are pretty standard, but all are good. Their nigiri in particular stands out for being excellent yet being almost half the price of some of the other more hyped sushi locations in the city. Their cocktails are great as well.“

“What an experience!
We met with some friends for the Omakase menu and it was well worth the cost. With this, you get 12 or 15 different sashimi options. Each were so delectable and tasted Ike the best quality. They presented about 3 of the 12 at a time so you were not overloaded with a big platter. Highly recommend if you like the raw type. Our server was fantastic and knew every single item that was placed on the table. Cocktails were so good as well and I recommend their off menu rum drink. Decor inside is cozy and modern but very inviting. Don’t sleep on the apps as well and you MUST get the Brussels! We will be back very soon!

P.S. catch happy hour for specials on Brussels and you better get the crispy rice trio!“

After visiting several other Sushi local places that recently opened up in Metairie I really appreciate it going back to Uchi sushi. “My meal, yesterday, was excellent; it was something I'd never had, before, so an adventure. I chose the Tonkotsu Black Ramen ('cause I love me some pork). I'd never had pork bellies, before, either, and the two in this ramen were so tender and so well seasoned. The crispy pork gyoza are, in fact, crispy fried dumplings; they were seasoned very nicely. And the broth was incredible; dense, and richly seasoned.

Although I'd been disappointed, somewhat, with their Chinese food, on my two previous visits (having been a 30 year regular at Chinese Tea Garden), as they're in the neighborhood, I decided to give them a try with something other than; I'm glad I did...

They, really, need to redecorate, as the, short-lived, Baby Cajun Saint decor ain't workin'. I'd love to see some of those classic Chinese Tea Garden paintings and calligraphy on the walls.“

Everything was so clean and fresh! The sushi was so delicious I didn't want to put any sauce on it. Lol. The soy sauce was solid quality and the spicy mayo had just the right amount of kick. “The food is great and the service is good...provided you don't arrive within an hour of closing. If you do, you will likely be told they are out of rice, fish, water, etc. I waited tables through college and I get that people who come in 10 minutes before a restaurant closes are the worst, but the staff here shuts down seating earlier than anywhere I've ever known. If they truly don't want to conduct business after a certain time, then they should close an hour earlier or simply clearly post a house policy stating no seating past a certain time rather than lie to repeat patrons.“

“So today I brought my family to UMI Hibachi and sushi in Chalmette to celebrate the twins birthday. We was given the lunch menu and ordered of the the lunch menu. I saw the the kids meal was $9.99 and the Lunch meal was $10.50. I specifically ask the young man what was the 50 cent difference between the kids lunch meal and the regular lunch meal . He told me that the lunch meal came with noodles. So I told him we’ll just give my boys a regular lunch meal. As he started to bring out the salad and soup I notice he only brought out one set for one of my boys. I told him I want the lunch meal for all of them. So he came back with more 2 sets of salad and soup. After we finish eating I get my bill and he charge us for the dinner combination Vs the lunch meal. I told him that not what I ordered. The dinner combination meals are $26.99 each . He said that we received dinner combinations portions so that what I have to paid for. First, I don’t have a problem with paying but that not what I ordered. I ask to speak with the manager . The manager send the waiter back and told him to tell us that there’s no negotiation it’s either we pay are else . So I’m the wrong individual to threaten like that. I send him back to his manger to tell her I’m not paying for nothing I didn’t ordered. The manager then came out and said the owner said that either we pay the dinner combination price or they was going to call the police . Now I feel very disrespected because you’re trying to make me pay for something I didn’t ordered, you’re also not trying to negotiate. So I told them to call the cop because the cop don’t scare me. The cop came and heard both side of the story . Ì eventually paid for what I originally ordered but the owner also ban me from the establishment. I’m writing this because this restaurant treated me and my family very unfairly. We went in there to celebrate the twins birthday because that what they wanted . If this was a black business ppl would blast them all over the internet. Please don’t go to to this business. Especially if you’re black… The owner wasn’t there but I know he knew I was black and while he was on the phone he kept telling the cop that I know he don’t want to paid . The cop kept telling him the guy has no problem with paying but only what he ordered. He ban me because they was wrong lol .. I already had it in my mind that I’ll never go back anyways .. Once again THANK YOU UMI Hibachi and sushi in Chalmette for messing up my sons birthday celebration…“
