“Walking in to this restaurant, the first thing I noticed was the warm, delicious smell taking over the room. After looking over the menu thoroughly, I settled on the Mantwo appetizer and Qabelee entree - I was really hungry! The qabelee turned out to be such a large portion I could not finish, but I was given a box and have no regrets. This was the most tender lamb I have ever eaten. Every bite of the meal, from the first tear of bread dipped in cilantro sauce, to the last forkful of rice I could fit in, was absolutely delicious. Our server Tahmina was friendly, patient, and very knowledge about the menu and happy to answer questions. I would absolutely recommend The Helmand and hope to visit again soon!“

We stopped in and tried the burger, chicken sandwich, tacos, and General Gao's chicken with rice—and every single dish was fresh, flavorful, and reasonably priced. “If you had told me my biggest highlight of flying into town this weekend to shoot exterior scenes for an upcoming horror film wouldn't be the set, but a chicken joint in Saugus, I would’ve called you crazy. But here we are.

I’ve seen the videos online for ages and it always piqued my interest. We might have some hiding down home in South Carolina, but the Saugus crew just made a lifelong fan out of me. Being completely new to the menu, the guy at the counter broke it down for me. Then, my eyes locked onto it: REAPER.

Fun fact about me—pain is the name of my game. I am an absolute sucker for the spiciest things you can possibly throw at me (for context, my current record is the Toe of Satan lollipop at 9 million Scoville units). So naturally, I was ready to dive face-first into the Reaper. But homeboy looked out for me BIG time. He gave me the ultimate insider tip: go with the Extra Hot first for the flavor, then tackle the Reaper.

He was not wrong. This was easily some of the most delicious food I've ever had. I still signed the waivers—one for the store, one for me to keep as a souvenir—and they hooked me up with some Carolina fries to try, which I devoured like candy. For the normal crowd, yeah, it’s got a massive kick. But for me? It was pure perfection.

I don’t think they’ve ever seen someone absolutely champ their way through that without breaking a sweat. I could see the literal shock in their eyes, and honestly, I don't blame them! I’m an outsider just rolling through town, but that large Extra Hot meal was a flawless 10 out of 10. I am so glad I trusted my gut instinct to finally try this place, and even happier that this location was my first introduction to the brand.

Amazing food and an amazing experience, but most importantly, an incredible staff. Huge shoutout to the absolute dream team working the floor: Tico, Olivea, Chad, David, Jessica, Oswaldo, and Betty. You guys made a chaotic travel and film weekend unforgettable. I fly back home tomorrow, but I have more scenes to shoot in the area in a few months. “Just ate at Ali baba and wow, it was awesome! The place has a really chill vibe and smells amazing as soon as you walk in.

We started with some French fries and pita – super tasty and fresh. The falafel was crispy and not dry at all. The chicken kebabs were on point, juicy and full of flavor.

For dessert, we had baklava, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Sweet and flaky, just how I like it.

Service was friendly and quick, which is always a plus. Definitely planning to go back soon to try more stuff on the menu. Highly recommend if you're into Mediterranean food!“

“Solid spot for a filling, weekday lunch. Location is a little hard to find as it's way back in Dedham Plaza, beyond the Star Market. Parking is simple and there are a few seats/tables if you wanted to eat in but I assume most patrons do take-out. Inside is clean and well-kept.

I ordered a Regular plate with chicken and beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and red and white sauce. With tax, total is around $15 for a generous portion of delicious food. The lettuce and tomato tastes fresh, adds some crunch, and I love the white sauce.

“We usually order from a different Shawarma place in Somerville, but decided to give Sam's a try. The food was very good, and in good sized portions. They were good about following requests to leave things out of the wraps. Note that they do the style with fries on the side rather than in the wrap. My only complaint is that they list some, but not all, of the ingredients on their site. So if you have things you can't eat, I definitely recommend calling them to double check. My partner can't do creamy sauces, and they listed tahini sauce but not garlic sauce in the lamb/beef shawarma, which ended up being a problem. Not a huge thing, just annoying that they make it look like everything is listed when it isn't.“

I couldn't understand why he would take the time - it's not like this guy is going to remember me out of all of the people who come through there. My mistake - every time I would see him over the years, at whatever location, Kadhim would come from behind the counter and greet me by name like an old friend. Understand - he was told my name once, over 20 years ago. I don't even go out to lunch very often - sometimes it would be years between visits to one of the Falafel King locations. But every time I enter, it's a big smile and greeting and an expression of appreciation that cannot be faked...go check them out!“
