“Birdies Hot Chicken is a locally owned spot that has quietly built one of the stronger reputations for fried chicken in the Boston area, and the tenders are where that reputation is easiest to understand.

The chicken comes out juicy and well crusted, with a batter that stays crispy without being thick or greasy, and the seasoning underneath does more work than most hot chicken spots bother with. The heat is the headline but the flavor is what keeps you coming back, and the two are balanced well enough that even at higher spice levels the chicken still tastes like something rather than just burning.

The spice levels are worth taking seriously. The extra hot is genuinely challenging and rewarding in equal measure if you have the tolerance for it, but the mid-range levels give you enough of the flavor profile to understand what the kitchen is doing without requiring a recovery period afterward.

“I’ve been eating here for a long time and generally enjoy the food. The chicken is flavorful, and it’s one of my favorite peri-peri spots. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. The rice and chicken portions are often quite small, and the rice is not always fresh. At the same time, the salad portions tend to be very large compared to the rice. A better balance between the sides and more consistent freshness would make the overall experience even better.“

I ended up getting a pupu for 2 and a small lo mein and a few minutes later I called back to add a dumpling and got the free pork fried rice and they didnt have an issue with it very welcoming as well when I walked in to pick it up. Also lots of pictures to help people choose what they want if they're not sure what they want. Well anyways the food was actually great. The shrimp were a bit different for me the long stick ones but they was fire. The rice was on point too. Everything I ate was actually tasteful tho. 5 stars for me for the experience and the food“

“We were visiting from Florida and was told we had to go Regina’s pizza so we did. Well we were not satisfied. It’s was average. So we found Cal’s and gave it a try. It was literally the best pizza and wings and ice cream we’ve ever had! The people were so friendly and upbeat. The restaurant was so clean and very well managed. “Quality was great at this location and our server Jamie gave us amazing service. The spicy hot chicken was perfectly crispy with a satisfying kick of heat. A nice surprise was the honey garlic chicken that the owner Gift recommended, it had an excellent texture and great flavor. The rice cakes were some of the best we've had, especially with the melted cheese, and the fish cakes were a great addition that completed the dish. We'll definitely be back!“

Its not worth 6$ service was kinda frantic and relied on a self checkout which I'm never a huge fan of. Atmosphere is nice for a hole in the wall. “PHENOMENAL subs. The crispy chicken Caesar sub lives up to its online hype. Perfect ratio of chicken to lettuce to parm to croutons. Not overstuffed / too hard to eat. I have gotten one on seeded sourdough and one on regular bread and definitely prefer the seeded sourdough to add that lovely sesame toasty flavor. And I have drooled over the thought of this sub many times since.

The tenders were so good in the sub I had to try them a la carte, they're juicy hot and BOMB. The French onion sandwich with caramelized onions and beef is fantastic.

Takes about 15-20 min minimum to get your food, but it's made with love and as their wall says, we don't make fast food so please be patient. Staff is always really nice. Absolutely worth a visit! Yet to try their pizza but it looks like thin crispy delicious crust, too.“

“My husband and I Went in at 7 pm at the Saugus facility to order for a cheerleading squad but was totally ignored and not a word from any employee that we will be with you shortly. They looked at us and kept on working. We waited over 5 minutes and walked out and went to raising canes, I tried to call to complain the next day and they don’t even answer their phone. Inside its a standard mid-sized local sports bar that I get the sense has a loyal local following. To my surprise food was above average and staff was very very friendly. Atmosphere: order at the front and find a seat in the restaurant. It's fine/standard.

Overall: was a bit disappointed with this location. Even though (I believe) the Allston one is the flagship location, I thought the food quality would have been closer.“

We ordered through Grubhub, and somewhere in the ordering process Grubhub changed our order location to Cambridge. While Grubhub offered absolutely no help in the issue, both the Cambridge and Boylston St locations worked together to transfer the order to the correct location. “This is a hidden gem. I've passed this restaurant many times and finally tried it today before the dinner crowd started to come in. The interior is larger than it seems from the outside. It's well decorated, clean, and the tables aren't all crowded next to each other. The food was very good as well as pricing. The portions are decent. I read some comments about carnitas but despite the negative comments we tried the carnitas tacos, they were really good and we would definitely recommend them. They have a back room with a bar. I recommend this place for the food, ambiance, and price. The service was good. Waiter and staff are very friendly.“
