“Westbound, hungry, and driving through an unusually slow traffic, it was only a matter of time before my itching fingers and fiendishly famished stomach determined the next course of action. Swerved off the next exit, pulled up a list of nearby restaurants, rerouted, and floored it. Fudge it. Hungry. Don’t care. Hungry. Just drive like another M@$$hole and get this nonsense over with.

U Dumpling House had immediately caught my attention. I couldn’t recall where I had read about it but it was positive. Now that it’s just a few minutes away from where I was, why the heck not? Dimsum and soup dumplings? Can’t go wrong right? Then again, I don’t ever remember anyone this hungry complain about anything in the moment until *way* after the meal…

So I rapidly ordered away like it was my last meal before I met my maker. Stuck to the usual choices to see their take on classic dim sum dishes. Best part? Food didn’t take long at all to trickle in straight from the kitchen (no dim sum cart here, as expected).

While the preparation was slightly different from what I’ve been accustomed to for the last few decades, I found their style both pleasant and tasty. At least, most of it was…and I would have given them 5 stars easily if it wasn’t for a few missteps that I can’t let slide.

Dry Sautéed String Beans. As good as your version is…the word “dry” means a particular technique that does not involve blanching the beans. I expected something but received something else. That one step has a different texture and matters to those who know this dish well. Moreover, I expected the soup dumplings, which you are famous for, to stand out. I can’t say it did and that’s me being nice.

Anyways, I definitely recommend anyone in the immediate area craving Chinese food or dim sum to at least try them out once. You may end up being one of those several regulars there that day that obviously frequent this place.“

“When we checked in at the hostess table we were told that they were no longer able to accept the Open Table reservation in their system. We were surprised and disappointed. We had requested a table by the window and were seated at a table with a blocked view. We asked for the window table and waited briefly for one which was empty. We started with a new mai tai which had several spices in it, not your typical mai tai. The server gave us a great service. Pork dumpling were very good with a mild sauce. Entrees Mongolian beef and spicy chicken with a side of chicken and beef fried rice were very good. Not sure if we'll return if they no longer accept Open Table.“

“This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. There are a lot of vegetarian options and the menu has a lot of variety. The prices are very reasonable and the quality of food is always great.

Vegetarian options: They have sesame tofu, tofu with vegetables, spicy green beans, and general gao’s tofu, plus vegetable fried rice and other menu variations.“

“We have been eating here for Years. The food is consistent. The owners and cooks are the same.

Mandarin Cafe is a hidden gem of a restaurant. The quality of food is great and the portion sizes are generous and the ingredients are top-notch.

Lately we have been ordering the Veggie Dumplings and the Kung Pao Tofu. The dishes are an absolute treat.

The restaurant itself is just a small kitchen with a few tables and chairs - you do get to see the chefs hard at work behind the counter.

“Waaaay too hot to cook today! We had a family gathering and no one really wanted to put time in the kitchen. New Rose Garden to the rescue! They took our large order and carefully made sure to get it right as well as make an ingredient accommodation on one of the items. When we arrived to pick up our order we were greeted with BIG smiles, and they boxed up our order to make it easier to carry (VERY thoughtful). The restaurant itself is not fancy, but comfortable looking. folks can grab a drink at the bar and play Keno. There are booths and some tables. The aroma of Pu Pu Platter items filled our car and made for a mouth watering drive to our relative's house! Good thing we put the boxed food in the back of our SUV. The food didn't disappoint! My family really enjoyed the PU PU items as well as the rice orders and dishes. We enjoyed the Ginger String Beans, Beef with Peppers and Chicken and Broccoli. The food was flavorful, fresh, quite yummy! The two ladies working the front of the restaurant are gems! They are genuinely happy, thoughtful, and kind. All in all a deliciously good decision“

It's a family-owned establishment with phenomenal food that consistently delivers the same delicious flavor. I've been a customer for over 15 years. “I'm honestly surprised by some of the lower reviews for this restaurant. I live in town and this is usually our go-to for Chinese food. Our go to dishes include beef and broccoli as well as shrimp and broccoli and they've always been pretty good. The serving size is good and the price is appropriate for what you get. We always do take out but so far we are pretty much always pleased.“
