“Overall food was decent. Fries with chili and cheese were above average and milkshakes were excellent. Where it failed was the burgers. Probably one of the most average hamburgers I have ever had and I find it comparable to McDonald's. I didn't have it I was told their half smoke was delightful.I am giving it a 3 as it is apparently well-known but was fairly average in my perspective.I'm updating this to 4 stars because after our meal 90 year old owner, Virginia, took time to talk to us and tell us all about her and the restaurants history that is rich and pivotal in the black community of the area. We came our first night in DC and had the delicious vegan nachos and vegan BBQ “chicken” bites and I was beyond impressed. We had such a great experience that we came back again…. “I wondered around the area for new spots I could try on my lunch break and yesterday on 3/12/2024 I stumbled across this gem .. the two guys who were working were extremely nice and the one guy who took my order was extremely knowledgeable , and he was patient with me . You can also choose their preselected choices which look really good. I chose to add sautéed onions, bacon, and Italian sausage. I will say although the Italian sausage was good, I wouldn’t add it again; it didn’t hurt the burger overall. You choose your seasoning (I chose basic), sauce (house bbq), lettuce and tomato. Tbh the restaurant name is misleading, because they really don't have burgers. They only had a sandwich with pork. Majority of the items on the menu seemed to be noodle dishes. After scrolling menu pages many times, I ordered braised pork rice bowl and dumplings. Food took about 15 minutes. But then they gave me a sandwich although I ordered a rice bowl. So I had to wait a little more while eating dumplings. Dumplings were nice and juicy. Hot. The sauce that came with them was good. The rice bowl was Ah-mazing. I added free toppings: onion, green pepper and cilantro. The eggs were the best. I should have paid for extra eggs. The braised pork was so flavorful and juicy. A lot of rice. O recommended it for anyone who's very hungry. It's a smaller restaurant, and not suitable for groups of 5 and more, but it is perfect for solo diners and small groups. Will go back.“

It's located downstairs which gives it a speakeasy kind of feel with brick walls, wooden decor, and a small bar surrounded by a few small tables and even a nice little fireplace towards the entrance. I came here for a friend's networking event but the staff was so friendly and accommodating to us, they helped with decorating, and even with such a large group they did a good job of handling the large volume of drink and food orders. They have a daily happy hour (even on weekends) from 4pm-8pm in which they feature $4 well drinks or shots, beers or margaritas for $6. In regards to food they provide $4 fries, wings and even some combo options like a classic burger or wings with a beer for $14. I decided on trying the burger combo (also comes with fries). The food came out fairly quick, the fries were solid and the burger exceeded my expectations given the price point but it was cooked well but not overdone and flavorful. All in all definitely recommend giving them a try whether it's for a small group meetup or a more intimate outing.“

But after a short walk with a few blocks, we found a spot. The nonalcoholic drink menu from the bar is definitely lacking. “Check out "The Spot".. there's 6 restaurants inside. It's like a mini Union Market. Mostly Asian or Korean food but they do have a soul food place and a Boba/ smoothie place. There's also a bar in the center. Pool table and plenty of seating. Parking isn't an issue. There are other restaurants near by. I ate at the Korean taco spot and got a rice bowl with bulgogi. Good portion of food, priced well, and very tasty. I like the multi-restaurant buildings. It gives you the opportunity to try different places and have something salty/ savory and sweet.“
