“Wow! Probably one of my new favorite spots in DC! Literally everything we tried was phenomenal - and I think these are the best fries I've had in DC! I got Madam VP Heritage, and my husband got the Mumbai Mariachi. Our kids got the Classique Grilled Cheese, which was delicious (I want to know what bread they used) and perfectly balanced with the ham and Swiss. We finished our meal with the alfajores, which I didn't get a photo of because we gobbled them up. But I was incredibly impressed with the food and service. Reasonably priced (especially for where it's located), bright and airy. It is a bit small, so it would be difficult to accommodate a large group, but there's plenty of seating, and there were several folks here reading and just hanging out on a Friday mid day. I can't recommend this spot enough - as a gastroadvocacy spot, it was already intriguing enough, and the diverse (and changing) menu is exceptionally executed! Excited to come back and try more things on the menu - with a side of fries!
Vegetarian options: There are very clearly labeled vegetarian and vegan options. It's not an extensive selection, but they are delicious!
Parking: It's definitely in a difficult area to find parking since it's in the heart of the city and close to many tourist attractions.
Kid-friendliness: There is no kids menu, but it's reasonably kid friendly otherwise. Our kids really enjoyed the grilled cheese and fries and cookies. May not be suitable for children who are very picky.“

“There’s very few times when you walk into somewhere and can tell immediately that the owner loves what they’re doing, Cynthia is most definitely one. Cocktails were unique and delicious and the food was exactly what I hoped it would be.“

“I was on the hunt for the ideal restaurant that offered a city vibe but was conveniently close to home. I lucked out and snagged the last reservation, as they were fully booked for the evening. The atmosphere was spot-on as soon as I walked in. We were seated quickly once a table became available, and after the drinks and food arrived, I understood why reservations were so hard to come by! The menu felt familiar, but the flavors in each dish were a refreshing surprise, with everything cooked to perfection. Our waitress was fantastic, and the entire staff was welcoming and attentive.“

“Returning to Washington from a France worn down by its own melancholy — a nation led by a presidential couple seemingly disconnected from l'esprit de grandeur — was a relief. The Monocle, nestled just a short pas de géant from Capitol Hill, felt like an antidote. Walking through its doors, I immediately felt transported, like one of the CIA operatives from Lioness Psy-Ops, covertly meeting allies in a safe haven of quiet luxury. Opened in October 1960 by Connie and Helen Valanos, The Monocle has seen more political deals sealed over its crab cakes than perhaps in the chambers of Congress themselves. As the Washingtonian noted, “The Monocle is a better restaurant than it’s given credit for,” serving dishes like “pan-fried Chesapeake Bay oysters baked in a light curry sauce” that feel like culinary diplomacy at its finest. What strikes one immediately is the duality of the space: half public house, half refined eatery. In the restaurant's more elegant quarters, I chose a glass of Sancerre, its mineral brightness pairing effortlessly with the signature crab cakes — plump, golden, and loaded with chair de crabe so sweet it could make a New Englander weep. A red wine-braised New York strip followed, its sauce reminiscent of the old-world simplicity one finds in France’s brasseries, yet undeniably American in its confident presentation. The maître d’, Nick Selimos — a fixture here for nearly three decades — greeted every guest with the kind of warmth that makes even the most hardened lobbyist feel comme chez soi. “There’s nothing more satisfying,” said John Valanos, the owner, “than having someone say, ‘We’ll come back ourselves.’” And come back they do — senators, staffers, and curious tourists alike. Sipping a digestif, I glanced at the black-and-white photos adorning the walls — Kennedy, Nixon, and other Washington titans. It’s said JFK dined here regularly during his Senate days. As The Washington Post humorously observed, "Intentions are spoken here, alliances formed, and deals sealed," all over dishes that balance simplicity and sophistication. Leaving The Monocle, I felt reconnected to the vibrancy of Washington, its pulse steadied by the legacy of places like this — where history, gastronomy, and a touch of joie de vivre blend into something unforgettable.“

I’ve been around the world and ate at a lot of Hard Rocks while in the Navy from Bahrain, to Singapore to Hawaii, Foxwoods Connecticut,Las Vegas, and even more and this was an AMAZING EXPERINCE! This is one of the BEST Hard Rock Cafes if not the best!“

“We braved the traffic to try matchbox tonight and it was more than worth it. Parking close by and affordable. Our drinks were delicious, I mentioned I liked creamy cocktails and our server Maylan made mine perfectly. We had several starters and a pizza. All were quite delicious. We will definitely be going back for seconds!“

“Had my first brunch at Sequoia and it was just as nice as a summer day! The venue alone already counts a lot, the food was great! We had a swirl margarita which was really good, and we ordered two dishes to share and the sizes were pretty good for two people. Their guaca with chips is also really tasty! Plus you get the beautiful view from the Potomac. It was perfect!“

“Our server Jayla was awesome! She was very friendly. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 2 p.m. weather was gorgeous outside and the outdoor patio was well covered, but we decided to sit inside. The restaurant wasn't too crowded. Jayla asked if it was our first time at Blackwall Hitch, which it was, so she went over the local favorites. She recommended the flaming crab dip and it was delicious!!! Jayla offered us extra Naan chips which I thought was generous for an upscale restaurant. I asked if she could bring us extra with a to-go box to take the rest of the dip. We also had the mahi mahi tacos and chicken-pancetta flatbread - both were great. Jayla often checked on us. We had a lovely time and the service was great! Thank you!“

“One of the best restaurants I've been to in my 34 years of life. Visited January 2017 and still remember my experience. The food was very delicious and generously portioned. My personal favorite dishes were the nachos and crab cakes. I remember that the service was excellent. We were seated in minutes, and it was still very busy. All and all I highly recommend this restaurant and I cannot wait to go back for all their great dishes/service“

“5 stars isn't enough!! From the moment we walked in until the end of our night we were satisfied. The decorations, food, and service was amazing! They even offered me a quiet place to pray :). Give this place a try-trust me (portions may seem small, but it was very filling- we ordered the bowl of fries, which came with a delicious sauce, CROQUETTES, fish burger, beef burger, and gnocchi pomodoro. It felt like we were in nyc enjoy :)“

“Restaurant was clean! Service was amazing! Queen our server was amazing! Good portions for majority of the foods. However, for the scallop dish was small and the scallops were over cooked and bland. Everyone else enjoyed their food! The drinks were amazing, the pizza appetizer bread was amazing! We were celebrating a few of
our bdays and the restaurant so generously gave us a complementary s’mores pie! Yumm! The apple pie was awesome too, so good! Loved the buttery flavor! Loved the photo opp in the basement but the bathrooms are very inconvenient to be located down there. They do have a single unisex stall upstairs but it’s not always available. I would for sure eat here again! I would just try something different.“

“Did an overnight trip that began on a Friday and ended on a Saturday morning. The room was charming and had a lot of personality that contrasted from the typical sterile feel of chain hotels. Despite being a historical building, the nights were warm and comfortable and also had wifi.
The bathroom had a claw foot tub and the water remained hot enough to fill it fine. It was in was an open-concept bathroom style so just a wall dividing the two spaces and no door. (We booked the traditional room w/single king bed) So be comfortable with who you share a room with.
We were there during some sort of reunion on a Friday so the muffled hum of conversation in the dining area was heard. As we also had a street view, the night life of pedestrians going home from the bar was also heard occasionally. Which is why I gave my review a 4/5 in location.
There were multiple dining areas depending on time and the breakfast menu was delicious. It is around the corner from various bakeries and restaurants if you decide to eat out.
Overall, if you are looking for a more interesting and adventurous place to stay in DC while still being surrounded by history that isn't exclusively political then the Tabard Inn is a good place to check out.“

“Yes! I love the concept. I love how it’s a hand made patty and the burger was cooked perfectly. In addition, you have an option to add items to your burger if you do the build your burger option. You can also choose their preselected choices which look really good. I chose to add sautéed onions, bacon, and Italian sausage. I will say although the Italian sausage was good, I wouldn’t add it again; it didn’t hurt the burger overall. You choose your seasoning (I chose basic), sauce (house bbq), lettuce and tomato. I also ordered the seasoned fries (garlic parmesan). I was curious so I asked for the spicy ranch. It was pretty good.“

“Exceptional service, spectacular and interesting food. Visiting for a conference and a peer recommend Tabard Inn. I had a bib salad with a ginger vinaigrette dressing that tasted so fresh! Then I had the flank steak medium rare that was the best, most flavorful and tender I have ever had. I was dining with friends, one had the filet mignon and the other the pork chop. Again, they were commenting on how perfectly they were prepared. The menu states no substitutions, and I understand why. Every item and spice was purposeful, and every flavor was complementary. At the end, they brought out the smallest squares - less than 1/2 inch square- of a caramel, and a berry flavor. That little bite is filled with flavor! I can't wait to come back when I get back to DC.“
