“Many people have described this place as the best pizza in DC. While it is good and definitely has that classic NYC style, it was not five star pizza. I got the Classic Pepperoni signature pizza with burrata and hot honey - very tasty.

I got it for takeout which may have also contributed to quality of the pie. A really nice touch was that they put the buratta and hot honey on the side, which kept the pizza crispier while I brought it home.

I hope to try a fresh slice at the restaurant someday soon. They have lots of selection between their own creations and the classics. If you are in DC and craving pizza, give them a try!

For some reason today I got no idea if y'all prayed to the pizza god for a new recipe or something, but that margarita pizza can rival most of NY slices I had. I am actually still lost for words cause I can't describe why was it that good?? ??‍♂️ Crunchy, some flake, sauce was clearly made in house by crushed tomatoes, has sweetness, good char to the crust. The cheese was good. I have no idea what y'all figured out but good freaking job“

“I have loved many pizza places. None of them has been as consistently amazing as Martha Dear. The guanciale and arugula pie I had last night is another utterly stunning iteration. I will think about this one in my sleep. I will crave it. As much as I will stand on a soapbox telling anyone who will listen that Martha Dear is not just THE best pizza in the DMV, but one of the best restaurants in the area, it is the conspicuously kind service that is the first thing I will mention. If you’ve never been, put Martha Dear at the very top of your restaurant to-do list. The very top.“

“Our sister Debbie passed away unexpectedly. Debbie was a very casual person. She didn't want a funeral. So we had a graveside service. I got permission from the church to have Timber Pizza come to the cemetery because my sister would have gotten a big kick out of that. The pizza was great, the service was wonderful, the two gentlemen were very friendly. When I told Kevin that sausage gravy and biscuits was my sister's favorite food, they brought it and cooked the biscuits in the wood fired oven. It was incredible, and so compassionate. “I saw a brochure of the restaurant on my door when I came home and decided to try the restaurant. I ordered a salad and a pizza. The pizza was amazing but the service was exceptional. Mh uber driver stole my bowl of salad and blamed the restaurant for it. When I called the manager reassured everything was given to him and went above and beyond to prove it by sending me a picture of him personally handing the food to the guy.. I've never experienced such an incredible service and I will for sure order again in the future. I am 100% recommending this restaurant“

“I've had the Addis Ababa pizza and the egg and veggie breakfast sandwich, and both are really really delicious! If you're just visiting the area and aren't sure if you'll come more than once, you absolutely have to get one of the Ethiopian pizzas, you're not getting that combination of flavors maybe anywhere else. The price of the Ethiopian pizzas is fair because of the amount of toppings that go on them and how filling they are. Even on an empty stomach I get stuffed from three slices of the Addis Ababa and have to save the rest for later. The service has also been very friendly every time I've been, just a great family-run small business!“

“Buy the slice and pizzeria and it's really good. It was recently rated by an Italian website to be the number two by the slice pizzeria in the USA. It's not listed on top 50 of by the pie though. Also, very minimal seating, so it's more like a takeout place. I'm not sure how representative the Detroit square slice is because I've never had that before but the plain slice is really good and I tried their barbecue collaboration with a local barbecue restaurant, Federalist pig...Which is also good.“

“I'm a regular at Angelo's almost every Tuesday during the fall middle school and spring high school softball seasons. I stop there between the game I umpire and teaching religious education around the corner at St. Patrick's. I will say that the quality at Angelo's is outstanding. I usually do a combination cheeseburger sub or steak and cheese. They are excellent. Plus, the fries are real fries that come out of the deep frier nice and crispy. I often will treat my religious education class to pizzas from Angelo's and they always tell me it's good pizza. Finally, they have Little Gina's pizzels. They're an Italian cookie my Italian mom would make and they are exactly like she would cook them. So, if you want some great pizza or sub plus some really crispy fries, I highly recommend Angelo's. Maybe I'll see you there some Tuesday!“

“Got all the spicy stuff, and it was all SO good! Can’t pick a favorite out of the spicy pizza, cheesy bread, fired fold, and meatballs. Tried this place on a whim after seeing a movie nearby. “Wanted pizza late night and this place happened to be on my way home. I walk in and at first was confused because I didn’t see any pizza. I was hoping to grab a slice real quick and be on my way but it looked like I was going to have to order a personal pie. Then the owner asked me if I wanted slices and I said I did but still didn’t see any prepared. So what’s unique about this place is they do custom slices which I have never seen before. The slices were huge. Probably about 50% larger then a normal slice.“

“Connecticut style pizza beats NYC pizza everytime for me and having frank Pepe’s in the DMV, does just that. The meatball & ricotta pie is my go to and slaps everytime.

Update: I had to come back and give it the extra star it deserves. This pizza is just way too good to not talk about over and over again. This time I got the Doppio as well. Incredible. “I was visiting the DC area and wanted pizza, so I decided to try Matchbox. I love a meaty pizza, so I ordered The Pig, which was loaded with pepperoni, ham, sausage, salami, and bacon, and it was super cheesy! Most of the toppings were underneath the cheese. I chose a 10-inch pizza, which was a good size if you have a big appetite or want to share with a friend. The service was excellent; my waiter was very attentive. The space was clean, relaxed, and private enough for each party to enjoy their own area.“

They provide tracking service so you can track the status of your order. My driver arrived in under the estimated time and also called to let me know that they were outside. “My wife and I are native New Yorkers, i.e, Pizza Snobs. We’ve lived in 3 states and the DMV. Wise Guy Pizza is authentic. Full stop. Just the right amount of oil on top, the pepperoni was perfectly flat, unlike some at imposter pizza places where they lay like mini saucers. The crust is simply New York - the crust thin and soft, not like other “thin crust” imitators that tastes like cardboard. The only complaint is the sausage: little rectangle strips rather than small round pieces. However, they were tasty.
We are happy to finally, after 40 years of searching, find real NY pizza. Note: Where were the Black & Whites?“
