“From the moment we arrived, our experience was nothing short of amazing. The food was outstanding—every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was warm, friendly, and fun, making it the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable and welcome. On top of that, the location is fantastic, with plenty of activities nearby to enjoy before or after your meal, which really added to the overall experience. The highlight of our visit, however, was our waitress, Ashley W. She went above and beyond in every way. Ashley anticipated our every need before we even had to ask, showing an attentiveness that is rare to find. She was friendly, personable, and very knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering so much easier and more enjoyable. Her positive energy and genuine care turned what was already a great dining experience into something truly memorable. Ashley is, without a doubt, the main reason my family and I plan to return. Her service left such a lasting impression on us that we would gladly make the trip back to Michigan just to eat here again. It is rare to come across someone who takes so much pride in their work and makes every guest feel special, but Ashley did exactly that. She is an absolute asset to this restaurant, and we cannot thank her enough for making our visit exceptional.“

“The price of the bill vs the food taste didn’t add up. The food wasn’t seasoned, the Mac and cheese was meh, and the yams and greens tasted like something you’d find pre maid. The fried chicken had zero seasonings on it. The only thing good was the fried fish. Service was great and the atmosphere was good as well. But I wouldn’t go here again.“

Walking in you notice how delicious everything smells, how clean everything is and how friendly everyone who works here is. The food is top notch. The breadding on the catfish fritters made my mouth water, the greens made me want to write home, the mac and cheese was perfectly cooked and the meatloaf was so tender and tasty. Then the dessert! Peach cobbler that made me make obscene noises, the creamy vanilla scoop and the amazing red pop sorbet were bursting with flavorful perfection. I highly recommend going here and trying everything.“

“Best soul food Downriver! We usually just get their wings, macaroni, and greens. So good. Customer service is great as well. I've ordered from them multiple times and never had a problem. The only thing I hate is their inconsistent and tough hours, but I understand it's probably a small business thing they have to deal with.“

You have an occasion coming up where you will need or want a pan of macaroni and cheese...like today...because it's today and you will want a pan of macaroni and cheese. My family had turkey chops and chicken wings, yams, green beans, greens and cornbread and everything was good but when I tell you that mac and cheese is some of the best I've EVER had, including my own, which slaps, I mean it. The lady taking orders was friendly, the dining room was clean, maybe too clean? Cleaning products were left out in full view and maybe that's not the ambience you want while dining in but that mac and cheese tho...I will sit next to a vat of bleach and Fabuloso if it meant having more. Go. Order it. Order other stuff too. I think you'll be pleased.

Nobody in Detroit makes Salmon croquets served with rice and gravy 😋 (my preference over grits)👌with scrambled eggs as good as J's does. This is my ultimate hands down favorite breakfast spot that brings that southern down home soulfood taste 😋 to your stomach. The dinners are fire too! This was a very happening place and a lot of us are patiently waiting for you to return. “I went to Velle's Grille yesterday for dinner in the hope of supporting a black owned business. I have no regrets. I had the Turkey Chops with Mac & cheese, collard greens and a side of yams. Good portion sizes. Everything was hot and seasoned perfectly. My meal was delicious. My husband had chicken wings with baked beans and macaroni. He also ordered a burger. He says the burger was delicious and the sides were on point. He woke up and ate the chicken for breakfast and he says we gotta go back lol. Overall we are definitely giving this place another chance.“

“I craved for the Jerk chicken dinner that comes with two sides. Plentiful, reasonable prices. Mac n cheese is so good, the greens melted in my mouth. Mask was worn and glass between chefs and the patrons.“

“I was referred over to this place by a friend as we were discussing good bbq. I’m originally from the Midwest but spent my formative years in the Deep South. And hadn’t had great bbq in a while. Came this way to taste their so called amazing Beef Ribs but when I got here they were sold out so I settled for what I found out to be one the BEST DAMN CATFISH SANDWICHES I HAVE EVER HAD!!! (Yeah I know it wasn’t the bbq we had talked about). So I decided to come back because of the dang catfish sandwich. MAN I AM SO DAMN GLAD I DID!!!! Their BEEF RIBS AND RIB TIPS ARE FREAKING DELICIOUS!!!! A very friendly, clean well run environment. Every time I am in town I stop in here and it’s a hike because I stay in the Canton, MI area when I’m in town. Can’t say enough good things about BBQ Central. Everyone needs to try this spot. You will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!“
