The sites were roomy with fresh paving and gravel. I was worried about first come first serve but got a great site across the road from Lake Superior.
Vault toilets were clean, wish they had Purex.
Bugs were horrendous but respected bug spray. Staff were amazing. So friendly, I felt welcome.
The stars at night were breathtaking. The view out over the Bay was beautiful at night.

Great national Forest campground right on lake Superior and also has the historic Bay Furnace as well. Before heading up it's a good idea to check to see if there is available sites as most are recrvable with only about 5 first come first serve sites. The whole campground has been updated recently and the pit toilets were very clean. My only complaint is the campers that have a hard time understanding what rustic means and running their generators excessively throughout the day.
Beautiful and very clean campground. The campground host takes very good care of it. Bathroom are kept clean and garbage taken care of. Beautiful sites and easy walking paths.

Bay Furnace Campground is a tranquil camping destination nestled near Munising, offering a peaceful escape. The well-maintained campground features clean and pleasant-smelling vault toilets, a dump station, and drinking water access. The bathrooms are extremely clean with little to no odor, and they have motion-sensing lights for nighttime visits. Visitors can enjoy various activities, such as rock hunting and exploring the nearby historic area. The campground's proximity to Munising and the availability of a gas station and small lodge across the street add to the convenience. Campers can use generators during designated hours, and the wooded campsites accommodate a variety of setups, though larger RVs may face some challenges. The campgrounds in the middle of the loop closer to the lake provide more privacy, thanks to thick foliage that blocks views of neighbors. The entry road does have some rather large pot holes, so caution is advised, especially when pulling a boat or trailer. Guests love the easy beach access—just a short walk to Lake Superior beach, where water shoes are recommended. The environment is beautiful, quiet, and clean, with mostly secluded campsites suitable for big RVs, tents, and well-behaved dogs. The campground is a perfect place for a relaxing getaway, with plenty of space between sites and a peaceful atmosphere.
