“My family and are I are extra thankful this year for the kindness and generosity of Jeff and Pam Pulley, the owners of Mountain Perks Espresso Bar & Cafe. Two weeks ago, my kids and I came to Bryson City to ride the Polar Express train with friends. GPS said I was only .5 of a mile away from my destination, but my car got stuck on the rocky road on a very steep mountain and I had no cell service. Turns out I inadvertently got lost very high up on the mountain (later we would found out I was 20 minutes away from the house we were staying). My kids and I walked to the nearest house that had a light on, and by the grace of God, Jeff and Pam took us in and helped us. Jeff and his neighbor, Keith, also got my car out of the ditch I backed into, and my kids and I were still able to make the train ride. Jeff and Pam didn’t have to open up their door and help three complete strangers, but they did with open arms. Jeff and Keith didn’t have to get my car out, but they did. Let this story remind you that there are truly amazing people in this world; Jeff and Pam (and Keith) are angels walking among us! My kids and I visited Jeff and Pam at their coffee shop the next morning, and let me just say, their food and coffee are delicious! I highly recommend going there if you are ever in Bryson City, and they are located right across from the train station!“

“If you’re in Cherokee and want something quick, flavorful, and satisfying, Kobe Express is a solid choice. It’s not a full sit-down hibachi show with flying shrimp — it’s more of a fast-casual Japanese spot — but the food delivers where it counts.
The hibachi plates are generous and cooked fresh. The steak and chicken are well-seasoned, the vegetables are crisp without being overcooked, and the fried rice has that classic savory flavor you expect. Portions are more than fair for the price, especially for a tourist-heavy area.
Their sushi is surprisingly good for a smaller mountain-town location. The rolls are neatly prepared, fresh, and consistent. If you’re not feeling hibachi, the teriyaki options are a safe and satisfying pick.
Service is efficient and friendly. Orders come out quickly, making it a great stop after a long day exploring the Smokies or visiting the casino. The dining area is clean and comfortable — simple, but welcoming.
Overall:
⭐ Fresh, hot food
⭐ Good portion sizes
⭐ Fair prices for the area
We were hungry and they got it out FAST .Quick and dependable service
Kobe Express is a reliable go-to in Cherokee when you want Japanese flavors without the long wait. It’s the kind of place you can visit more than once during a trip and know exactly what you’re going to get — solid, satisfying meals every time.“
