“Fresh, Fresh, Fresh! I just stopped for a late lunch and ordered the Heirloom tomato and steak salad weekly special. Everything including basil, buratta and the local heirloom tomatoes were so flavorful and the steak was perfectly cooked. The chimichurri was the perfect combination to this seasonal salad. It’s so nice to enjoy such amazing food right here in Downtown Elizabeth City where I live-Hoppin John’s is always the greatest place for southern food and hospitality!! Don’t miss our amazing food and drink scene in Elizabeth City!“

“No frills Japanese restaurant that I have been completely & truly enjoying since BEFORE 9/11.
The ambience has never changed & I take great comfort in walking in and ordering the steaming miso soup, a side salad, tempura veggies & my most favored dish. It's akin to visiting an old friend you haven't seen in awhile, and you pick up right where you left off!
Service is very prompt, courteous and always helpful if you're interested in trying a dish or side you've never tasted before.
All emphasis is on the cuisine(succulent, & truly authentic) and the ever stellar service. No matter if I sit at the sushi bar, dine in, or take out, the food is always what I seem to need & ever delectable!“

“This place is a hidden gem and has come a long way since my first visit. You can definitely see the difference with the new team—they genuinely care, and it shows in the service and overall experience. The food is really good; some of my favorites are the Bold & Tangy Burger, Bourbon Street Pasta, and the Roast Beef Cheddar Melt. Shout out to the owners as well—I’ve seen them step in and help when needed, which says a lot. Overall, I highly recommend this place.“

“We have been several times now, and the food and service are 5 star quality. We mostly get breakfast food, and of all it the pancakes and waffles seem to be the favorite with our group. The staff are fast and efficient but still very friendly. We will be back as often as possible.“

“They could improve by keeping the hours that they have posted. I went to get breakfast and they told me they were closing 2 hours early. Just ridiculous. They will be closed til Thursday for the holidays & couldn't even work today!“

“After seeing some bad reviews I figured I see for my self. With other places in town not good at all I was very hopeful this place was good. It did not disappoint. We ordered multiple different things and they all were perfect. Placing the order over the phone was easy. Check out was done by I assume the owners child but she was super pleasant and knowledgeable.“

“My husband & I have been traveling to Elizabeth city mon-fri for 13weeks for work. We have eaten at City grille every single week we have been down there. We have loved most of the food we have tried. Some of my favorites would have to be the Ham, turkey, bacon club sandwich , the city grille burger, the slaw, fried okra & Mac n chz & the carrot cake is the best I've ever had. My husband doesn't even like carrot cake & he loves it. We usually do take out but the staff has been absolutely amazing. So nice, thoughtful, & accommodating.“

“My dad and I pulled up, I ran in, grabbed 2 ready 2 go pizzas, and we were gone in a matter of minutes. The pizzas were hot and delicious when we got home, later that evening, and even for breakfast. The place was clean and the staff was nice and friendly.“

“This is the very best IHOP we have been to in many years. We were so impressed with the food and service. We couldn't believe that this was an IHOP since they were known for terrible service. We had to go back for breakfast to make sure that this IHOP was for real. We suggest that IHOP corporate use this location in Elizabeth City, NC as an example of how an IHOP should be operated. Thanks to the Manager, Janet and her talented staff.“
