“Despite neither adult enjoying their main meal, still a 4 star 😆
I got mesquite chicken (largely tasteless) and my husband got BBQ. I could tell that if either had not been cold, they would've had good taste. My chicken was cold and hard, certainly not cooked recently. My husband's BBQ was cold and he didn't like their BBQ sauce (said the sauce was like NC BBQ sauce got mixed with ketchup for some terrible reason).
Now all the good. Our waitress and all other workers were very kind and attentive. One of us (ok, it was me) spilled their water and they came over to help wipe it up and bus it right away. The kids devoured their bbq, hot dog, fries, and mac n cheese (kids eat free by the way).
All of our sides were hot and fresh, so maybe that's what everyone likes about this place if the meats tend to be sub-par. Between us we had fries, potato salad, baked beans, white cole slaw, and okra. They gave each of us a huge basket of fries.“

“I grew up in Salisbury and lived there well into my adulthood. I live in Columbia, SC now but when I come back to town to visit my Mom, one of my favorite places to eat is at Checkered Flag. They’re food is really good but the hard working ladies who serve the customers is what makes it great. They take the time to talk to every customer at every table and it’s not just chit chat. They really want to know how you are and what they can do for you to make your visit perfect. They treat everyone like family but for those of us who come back again and again, we become family. Even for me, an out of towner, I even know two of the hard working ladies, Angela and Jen. Angela showed her hard working team spirit yesterday when, Jen, our server, was tied up with her other tables. Angela stepped in and took our order until Jen could get back over to us. This example of teamwork becomes contagious and I’m sure that Jen has done the same thing for Angela and all of her co-workers. Jen is such a joy to be around. Her personality oozes charisma and warmth and she makes you feel truly special because that is who she is!! I heartily recommend Checkered Flag for their great food and and their even greater people!! I rate them 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and 5 hearts!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️“

“Love the BBQ! Its a must get. Also tried their chili beans for the first time and it was awesome. Full of big red kidney beans and chock full of hamburger. Great chili flavor and a decent sized portion. Ordered a grilled cheese sandwich to go with it and it was the perfect meal for a cold night.
One thing to note: this is a very small restaurant and has very tight seating with permanently built in booths (9 I think???). They are not adjustable so if you're a larger person, be prepared to squeeeeeeze into the seats. There is ONE table with four chairs which I believe is for those with handicaps.
Second thing to note: the bathrooms are around the back of the building... outside.“

“We love it here! Service is fast and friendly! We usually go for breakfast. The portions are HUGE so come hungry. Always yummy. The Livermush is extra crispy, the grits are the best we have ever had, perfect delicious texture, not soupy like some and the omelets are amazing.
Casual seat yourself and cool 50's atmosphere inside. We drive 30 minutes and it always worth it!!“
