“Great food, great staff & service, great atmosphere! The owners were WONDERFUL and very accommodating. I hosted a small private event in the eat-in area. The space is clean with a bathroom and small bar space, music and a big screen on the wall. I don't eat much Haitian food but really enjoyed the griot and the patties. Will definitely be back to enjoy some of the regular events hosted by the restaurant.“

“The food at Djondjon is spot on.... This restaurant is a jewel. The food is amazing, and the hospitality is off the chart. There is free jazz often enough. The quality far surpasses the price. I love their pasta, their fish and their goats which come in various varieties. Their appetizers are yummy. I will continue to patronize this place. I had my Cabrit boukannen ( grilled goat) and it really pleased my taste buds.“

“The food was excellent. The staff was friendly, kind and gracious. We all had du riz djon-djon. Half of our group had griot the half had stewed chicken. Everything was superb. The legume was so smooth and fine that you feed it to a baby. Definitely will return.“

“Absolutely fantastic experience at BunNan in New York! We visited during happy hour and ordered the Plantain Jerk, the Snapper Sliders and a lemonade. Everything was absolutely delicious, full of flavour, beautifully prepared and excellent value.

A special mention to our server, Gabby, who was brilliant. She was friendly, attentive and made us feel so welcome from start to finish. Her service really made the experience even better.

“I am not Haitian but I fell in love with pate kode, pickliz and black rice and this place is one of the places that makes the best of these three things. They are always open at a great hour and my plate is always packed. If you are looking for food that packs flavor and a good kick this place is your spot. Definitely try the pate kode“

Walking into Machou Tropical Restaurant in East Orange, NJ, you immediately feel like you’re a priority. We chose this charming, family‑run restaurant to celebrate our daughter’s Grade 8 graduation, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The owner’s hospitality sets the tone gracious, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.

The food was extraordinary. It was, without exaggeration, the best Haitian cuisine we’ve ever enjoyed. We’ve already shared our experience with friends and family, and despite living seven hours away, we would gladly make the drive again.

The owner and his wonderful staff treated us like VIPs from the moment we arrived. The intimate size of the restaurant made our celebration feel almost private. Every plate was a standout from the unforgettable Tom Tom with real lam veritable and the huge fried fish (honestly, it looked like a requin) to the meatless legume, riz djon djon, rice and peas, Steamed rice paired with traditional Haitian sauce pois, provisions, acra, and plantains. Everything was prepared with outstanding care and skill. My kids especially appreciated the vegetarian options and fresh juices.

Exceptional service, exquisite food, and a warm family atmosphere. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, hosting a business dinner, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Machou Tropical is a place worth visiting.

they're a great mix of flaky and smooth, not greasy, and the fillings are very nice (especially the beef and chicken). The fish patty is milder but in a very nice way, if you're looking for lighter flavors. They also have sweet pastries and snacks that I have yet to try! Very worth your money, great prices.“

“Honestly, it makes me so happy that a place like this still exists in downtown Montclair. I picked up two pizzas today - a pepperoni and a cheese for $25. The woman there was incredibly sweet and gave me a free container of cut watermelon as well. I really like their pizza and have always sung their praises - it’s slightly spicy. Traditional? Not exactly but I’m Italian and I think it’s delicious for a good price so that’s what matters. Hope they’re around for a long time — they’ve always been there for me in a later night pinch“

“I passed this place while in the area and was super intrigued to try a Haitian bakery. I stopped in and ordered a few patties (fish and herring), and was very pleasantly surprised at the non-inflated prices. The patties themselves were SO good and filled me up a lot more than I expected.

“Had a really nice experience at this Haitian restaurant. The staff were very friendly and the food was great, full of flavor and came out fresh and hot. The only downside was that the front door was locked when we arrived, so we had to knock/wait to be let in, and they are cash only, which can be inconvenient if you’re not prepared. Overall, I’d still recommend it for the food and service, but bring cash and be aware you might need to get someone to open the door.“
