My top-tier chums and I came here for lunch yesterday after The Pasta Shop had a 90-minute wait (which annoyed them/pretty much quashed any interest they had in trying to go back, and made me want to go even more - so it goes), and were rewarded with approximately a 30-second wait for a table here. Boy is there a lot to look at; I'm not going to risk using incorrect terminology in describing this building, but it's a lot. And as someone who has spent a bit of time at a time vortex Chinese place in Rockland County of late, apparently aquariums are a big part of the decor.If you're looking for information on Hunan's authentic Chinese dishes, you've come to the wrong place - we went so basic, we might as well have ordered this with a side of Uggs and a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I ordered my tried and true Sweet & Sour Chicken, one top-tier chum ordered the Sesame Chicken, and the other top-tier chum ordered General Tso's Chicken. The edgiest item we procured were the steamed pork dumplings app to share.Everything here was very solid. These are obviously items that we'd typically get from a hole-in-the-wall takeout establishment, so it was a nice change of pace to eat the chicken off of actual plates (maybe most people do that too with their takeout orders, but I'm a barbarian through and through). The two keys for me when it comes to sweet & sour chicken are ensuring the chicken isn't overly deep fried where you're eating more fried skin than meat, and that the sauce is on the thicker side. Hunan checked off both boxes here, and since it was served with some vegetables, etc., there was some extra flavoring at play as well. The dumplings were very good as well. I've become more of a soup dumpling adherent in recent years, but I liked the seasoning in the pork and was pleased we got something other than generic chicken with our meal.The service overall was above average. I thought it slowed down noticeably towards the end, though we weren't in a rush or anything. But we'd clearly stopped eating and didn't receive a visit from anyone to pack up the leftovers for about 20 minutes - not egregious, and there were tons of staffers all over the place and it would have been very easy to hail someone down if the urgent need arose. Beyond that, everyone we interacted with was pleasant and efficient.One of my chums noted a party room in the back and was openly pondering the possibility of returning in the near future and hosting a birthday in there. I wasn't QUITE as blown away by this place as she was, but I'd definitely come back. The decor needs an update, but it is ok. The staff was friendly, took my order--for takeout service--and it was done fairly quickly. I got the sesame chicken w/pork fried rice combo; got home and dug in. The portion sizes were generous, and the price were reasonable. While the food was good, not the best Chinese I've had...however better than most in this area...I'll be back to try some of their other options.“

“I honestly fell in love with this Asian restaurant after a whole year moving into this area. I was really having a hard time on finding good Asian restaurants and all of them have awful reviews or disgusting discoveries. I'm happy to say this place given me hope and reminded me of an previous restaurant I went to all the time for quick eats or cheap options. I never had a problem coming here and it's always fresh whenever you come in for take out. I had no idea they had other options of Asian dishes until the bento box took me by surprise. It was so rich in flavor and tasted absolutely delicious. It's by far the best restaurant for the money and quality. “In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby "If you ain't First you're last" which definitively highlights the importance of always being Number 1 and when it comes to Chinese Food this place is always in the Winner's Circle. So far I've tried the Chicken Chow Mein [L9] and the Boneless Spareribs [L34] and was thoroughly satisfied with both meals. I would say that this little hole in the wall spot makes the Best Chinese Takeout in Rockaway Boro and not that there are alot of other competitors in the field but to me it's not even close. They're fast too, I was in and outta there faster than a Nascar Pit Crew at Talladega Superspeedway and their prices won't have you up against the wall either. Now I'm trying to get them to put "Shake -N- Bake" Chicken on the menu, buut it doesn't look like that's gonna happen anytime soon, but hey until then you just can't beat Number 1's Crispy Fried Chicken. I was passing through the area and saw the Jamaican place next door online. I have social anxiety and usually don’t go inside places I don’t know by myself but I decided that I REALLY wanted some j*** chicken, set my gps and drove. As I approached I saw the place I intended to go, and parked. Kept my head down and walked inside. To my surprise I looked up to see two people who were very much not Jamaican lol there was no customers in there and I felt like a deer in headlights and couldn’t turn around and walk out so i just blurted out that I would like some beef lomein. He rang me up and it was $14 and change and my immediate thought was “wtf” but whatever, (I used a card and there was no mention of a $15 limit) I decided to wait in the car for my food and as I did I looked at the reviews. Over and over I read people said the food was expensive, sucked, and the people were rude and stingy with sauces. I was not feeling very hopeful for my lunch at all. However, when I went back in to get my food, the man was more lively and very polite, even asked if I would like any sauce, which I thought was funny. I went back to my car and realized that I had a quart rather than a pint (I never specified) which was why it was so costly. When I opened the container I was pleasantly surprised that there was a lot of meat and veggies in there and it was super hot and fresh. The taste was on point too, probably one of the best beef lomeins I’ve had. Maybe they aren’t super friendly or bubbly, but they were fair, nice, and the food was great. Don’t let the other reviews scare you.“
