They don’t pretend to be anything fancier than they are (they’re as un-fancy as a place can get), nor do they put on any airs when all you want is a slice and a Snapple.A busy man - most likely the owner - will take your order in between the conversation he’s having with the other person behind the counter, and there are old, now defunct, coin-operated bubble gum machines up against the wall, and a small menu with very likely little variation from the menu that started it all for them in the mid-70’s is lit up with press-letters in the standard see-through red you grew up seeing in pizza places as a kid.The place is freaking perfect. “We were in town for a funeral and after a couple of grueling days, wanted a bowl of "comfort food." Being vegan, I called Prime Pizza to ask if their tomato sauce had cheese and was assured it was vegan. I mentioned pasta primavera, which is not on their menu, and was told to please come in, they would create something for us. Our big bowl of pasta had very generous portions of fresh broccoli, mushrooms and carrots. The sauce was flavorful and delicious and the veggies were perfect. It was just what we had hoped to find. I’ve been going there for roughly the past 2-3 months and every time I go there they usually have 2 counter young girls working. One time I went and There was only 1 counter girl working, Brunette girl. This was a Friday which is known to be one of Tj’s busier days and this one girl was working by herself. It was easy to see she had a lot of calls to pick up and things to do/people to help and it was noticeable that she was feeling a little stressed or overwhelmed as the line of people was about 4-5. Although she was super super kind and smiley and she was a great person to take my order ( I called in for pickup ) On the phone she talked very calmly and Slow and She was easy to understand, she was very patient with me as I had a lot to order. “We're still on our mission to find the best margherita, grandma, and grandpa pizzas in North Jersey. Recently, we have Kinnelon Pizza Pasta Cafe a shot in Kinnelon, NJ. We ordered their Margherita, pepperoni, and Sicilian pies.Note: Yes, we are trying to get lucky when we order the Sicilian; rolling the dice to see if a grandpa style Sicilian comes out the oven.First up, the Margherita. Outstanding. Upon opening the box.. the fresh mozzarella is melted perfectly, the sauce was spread evenly, the basil was baked on, and the crust was not thin but the same width you would see on a regular pie. First bite... the sauce is what gave this pizza a great rating. This is definitely not the same sauce they use on all of their pies as the Sicilian and pepperoni tastes different. It is a sweet sauce, not salty with a nice hint of basil (even though the basil was baked on). Not chunky and very smooth. The crust was fresh and the only negative I can give this pie was that it became soft very quickly causing the cheese to slide off. I know... not exactly a negative but this is a critique , we're trying! Overall, EXCELLENT job Kinnelon Pizza, this is (so far) in our top 3 of Margherita pies.Next, the Pepperoni. A nice spicy pepperoni pie. Cheese, sauce, crust, cooked perfectly. The cheese was melted nicely with a little more grease than we have seen on other pepperoni pies. The crust was fresh and soft. The sauce was very good. This told us that their traditional pies are worth ordering and we would definitely give this a try again if we are in the neighborhood.Lastly, the Sicilian. A traditional Sicilian, thick crust, sauce, and mozzarella on top. There is a lot of cheese on this, be prepared to fight for it as you take a slice out of the box. This pie was very, very similar to the Sicilian pie we had at Suzy's Tomato Pies in Hewitt, NJ. It wasn't as salty but still had a very similar flavor with sauce and crust. Same cook? (kidding). Overall, great taste, thick crust, cheese, and sauce.Again, a job well done Kinnelon Pizza. We did not try the grandma (We don't know why we didn't order it..most likely we were in the mood for Sicilian instead. The good news is that we now have to come back to try that.“
