“Singlehandedly the greatest Venezuelan restaurant in the greater NYC metro area. I was brought to tears when the taste of the empanadas caressed the inside of my mouth. This restaurant outclasses anything in the area. I couldn't do anything besides drop down to my knees and bow down upon those who took the time to make it. I felt my body begin to levitate as the food snatched my soul. I was ready to be taken to heaven as I knew I had reached the pinnacle of food. If I could give it a Michelin star I would, as the food taste that as of a Michelin star chef.“
“We held a private party at Casa Ora and had a wonderful time. Food was delicious, cocktails amazing, restaurant beautiful and service impeccable. I highly recommend it as a venue. Special shout out to Gonzi (private event host) who was attentive to all our needs during planning and on the night of the party.“
“Randomly found this place and glad I did!! Ambiance was cheerful and welcoming. Marcy made an amazing rum punch and had great energy! The vegetarian empanada was fabulous. I’ll visit every time I’m in the neighborhood (or maybe even make a trip to come here specifically).“
“The best I have eaten in a long time, since I got Covid I started to have new allergies and had to stop eating sushi. I took a risk and gave them my trust. Incredible, super attentive, good communication, the sushi was fresh. They took all my specifications into account and were very careful about cross contaminationThank you very much I will definitely order again“
“Cannot wait to go back!I had a pabellón arepa, a chicken empanada, a beef empanada and a passion fruit juice. The pabellón arepa was too good! I don’t really eat arepas (I’m a bad Venezuelan, oops) but I couldn’t resist because pabellón is my favorite. The shredded beef in this arepa was great, it wasn’t tough to eat and it was full of flavor. The empanada, which was actually a pastelito is made in the oven. I told the owner, Esteban, that they are pastelitos, not empanadas, he told me it’s easier for non-hispanics to have an idea of what the item on the menu is if described as an empanada which made sense to me.The chicken in the pastelito is shredded, these pastelitos are pretty darn tasty!I wasn’t a huge fan of the beef one but it was alright too. I’m definitely looking forward to more chicken “empanadas” haha. The passion fruit juice is always a fave for me because it reminds me of back home. Very refreshingI really enjoyed this little restaurant. They recently celebrated their first anniversary, I wish them many more ☺️The owner is super friendly, so Venezuelan. There is limited seating, only about 3 stools and a table by the window, which I guess is fun for people watching :pI love that they show some of their menu items on their Instagram, I hope they add more photos and videos. It’s always helpful for people who are trying food from another country for the first time to see photos.Oh! There is also a lady who makes custom cakes and cookies here, Sweethaze cakes but I did not try any of them. Very pretty cakes, you can check them out on InstagramVegetarian options: There is a vegan arepa on the menu.“
“Came by for an early dinner on a Saturday night. This place is a little outside the busy main Astoria area. The outside looks very minimalistic you wouldn't know it's Peruvian just passing by. From the drinks to the entree, everything was tasty and portioned well although slightly on the pricier side. One cocktail, fruit drink, arepa small dish, ceviche mixto, and entree came out to $100 after tip.“
“This place has really good food. The portions are small, however, and the prices are simply too large for the size of the arepas. Cheaper arepas are available in Brooklyn. Of course, the rent is cheaper in Brooklyn too. Again, the arepas themselves are great, they’re just a bit pricey.“
“I have been a customer of this place for more than 5 years. But lately the food is horrible. The last thing I placed was an order last night and everything I ordered was horrible. The food was very bad. The meat was bathed in water, it looked and tasted horrible. They have to bring in the old chefs or have the current cooks learn the original recipe.“
“I dont eat meat but let me tell you their vegan option is delicious. Its a small little place and I wish they had space to dine in and spread out. Its very typical street food but Venezuelan style. It little pricer than expected but they give you a lot of food!“
“I was craving cachapas and a friend recommended this place. Food was great, we ordered tequeños, cachapa and I forgot the name of the other plate, but it had fried yucca, meat and fried cheese. It was delicious. Service was a 10/10 they were amazing and we talked a bit about everything while waiting. Place was tiny, I honestly recommend doing take out, as most people do. We were the only ones there, but it was still quite small with 3 bistro tables with not so comfy stools. Great place though!Wheelchair accessibility: No“
“This is our go-to place in our neighborhood whenever we want something quick, easy and reliable, and it never lets us down!Caters for gluten free, ingredients are always fresh, sauce is delicious. Staff are always super friendly, and it's always a nice place to eat.If you want quality and consistency at a good price with friendly staff, this is the spot.“
“Great atmosphere. Small place but it has cool vibe. If you go on Sundays you won’t regret it. It’s hard sometimes to find a place where to party on a Sunday night but in Santa Salsa they have karaoke with DJ Chico Raro and the place gets packed. You can eat, sing and dance. I recommend “
“Spotted by this place for lunch while returning from an estate sale on a rainy day and the restaurant was still packed. The service was impeccable, our server was so sweet and kind, despite dealing with hangry masses in a small space. We got the arepas tasting platter and the sweet corn pancakes. Both were delicious. The Reina arepas stood out with their avocado chicken filling. We also got the sugarcane lemon drink which was very refreshing. I will be returning here to try their all day Venezuelan brunch menu next!“
“This is a go-to lunch spot for me! I I order the veggie bowl which has great flavor and delicious plantains. After a few times visiting, the staff learned my order. They are always so kind and bring me my to-go bag where I'm waiting instead of making me come up and get it. There is a good amount of seating and on nice days they'll leave the doors open so you get fresh air. I definitely recommend White Maize!“
“I ordered some arepas and an empanada. Both were bigger than I expected! My partner had the burger and let me try a bite of it. They were right—it might be the best thing on the menu. I was really intrigued by the empanadas and arepas, though. The corn flour on both was unlike how either is usually prepared, crisp on the outer layer and soft beneath it. Corn empanada shells are often crunchy and hard, and arepas are usually very soft and thick and contained. I liked these and wondered if there is one Latin American country whose style they are made in. Also, as other commenters have mentioned, the music is excellent. For a place that catches your attention from the street with eye-popping colors, everything inside lives up to that initial impression.“
“Patacon is venezuelan food. If you like to eat sweet plantains, this is the place. It's one of those fast food truck place-order to go only. I had a "yoyo" a choice of chicken, beef, or pork. I had the chicken. Basically it looks like a gyro instead of getting the pita bread, you get sweat plantains with lettuce and tomatoes. It was very tasty. You should look at their website for more details.“
“I have been getting this for years , food is amazing, staff is friendly and welcoming, you can always order a head saves you lots of wait time. They are organized and have a great system. I now travel from upper westchester down to NY to grab some great food from here.Parking: Hard to find a spot near the street, but can go around to find a spot.“
“I've only been for their breakfast which is reminiscent of Dominican mangu with 3 golpes and pickled onions. Really good and affordable. Their tequeños which are breaded cheese sticks and choice of two sauces, one Cilantro based and the other mayo ketchup are delicious. Excellent juices that are not too sweet. Overall good in my book.“
