“Okay, as a regular sushi eater, I was very happy with my experience at Sushi Maru. Their main selling point unquestionably is the quality of the ingredients used, which is top notch. The selection is good, they are generous with moat of their offerings and the service is excellent. The seating arrangement is a little tight though. Overall, a 5 star experience, highly recommended.“

“Wanted to write an update as we have been coming here consistently for a few months now. It's still exceptional!! The tempura is hot and tasty, servings are large, fish is fresh and the prices are reasonable. The owner and his staff are so friendly and really put in an effort to take care of their customers. This has quickly become our favorite sushi and ramen restaurant in HRM! If you haven't tried it yet, you should!“

“We have been choosing let’s Ko for the last few years for amazing noodle dishes. Until quite recently all of my orders had been the same thing. N3 (black bean noodles) with extra daikons, and always to go (lunch time)My best friend asked me to join her for supper one night. I was excited to eat in and experience the atmosphere and sushi. Since then I’ve only been choosing to eat in!???The atmosphere is so pleasant, staff are always so kind and attentive! The seating is very comfortable and the restaurant is always very clean. Now for the food!!The sushi is amazing! Their rice is perfect every single time! I have been to other sushi restaurants and sometimes the rice is good and other times not so much. I haven’t yet to have this experience at let’s ko!The nori is excellent! I haven’t asked them what type, but it has a different flavour profile thanmy other go to sushi restaurant. The fish is amazing! They don’t skimp on their fish selection. The salmon is always beautifully cut and the perfect ratio to meat and fat marbling. The tuna is flavourful and tender, it’s truly a delight! My go to order is the house maki combo, I can’t get enough of that home made salad dressing the miso soup is delicious, not overly salty and the perfect complement to an amazing meal. The sushi is a salmon maki and a tuna maki. I add an Alaska roll (can you really beat salmon, avocado and cucumber??)For the table we usually order a veggie tempura and spring rolls. We decided tonight to share a KoKo chicken dish and it was amazing as well!!The tempura isn’t greasy, it’s beautiful and light! The veggie tempura usually comes with sweet potato, pepper, asparagus and zucchini (I do not know if this is standard and year round it’s just been my experience) the spring rolls are so good as well. The KoKo chicken is tender pieces of dark meat, in a slightly spicy but so flavourful sauce! I could pair that with a side of rice and enjoy that as a meal (may do that if we have another to go lunch order)10/10 recommend eating in for the sushi. It melts in your mouth and is the perfect balance of flavours and textures! Thanks Let’s Ko staff for always being so amazing and for serving such wonderful meals! It’s always a pleasure for us to get together, unwind after work and enjoy a meal. You have always served us more than just a meal, you’ve served us beautiful memories and fantastic experiences with the people we love most, and I appreciate it!“

“I always enjoy the food here, very tasty and freshly prepared. Welcoming atmosphere. Each time I went there the staff was always friendly and willing to serve. Even the owners personally came to the table to ask if all is well and to me it seems they genuinely want to be sure you are satisfied. Thank you all at Ko-doraku. I hope to be there again.Oh and on another note. I appreciate the well upkeep of the restrooms, which I think is so important for a restaurant.“

“Been meaning to try this place because the great reviews. Finally got here tonight and it was awesome.Takoyaki was warm and octopus-y with the bonito flakes and sauce giving just the right funk to everything. I had Unagi rolls and Dynamite which were great. But the star was the Double Mon roll. It's a shrimp and avocado roll wrapped in salmon, avocado cream and lemon zest. A little dip in soy makes it sing. Soooo good. Definitely coming back soon. And spreading the word.“

“The eel rice, scallop sushi rolls and tonkotsu ramen are all delicious. I forgot to take pictures. Although the store is small, the overall service and atmosphere inside the store are very warm. I especially recommend plum wine and other Japanese sakes! I will definitely go there again next time, it’s also great for a date!“

“tl;dr Japanese family-owned sushi restaurant with a wider variety of fish than other restaurants in the area.Came here because it seemed most of the other sushi restaurants nearby didn’t have a wide selection of sashimi. The chef’s selected nigiri sushi dish had: salmon, tuna, mackerel (saba), red snapper (tai), cooked eel (unagi), scallop (hotate), Japanese clam (hokkigai), cooked octopus, yellow tail (hamachi), and shrimp. The hamachi didn’t look quite right and seemed to just be a cut of tuna but the sushi chef personally assured us that it was indeed hamachi, just cut so that somehow the characteristic red portion was missing.More than the sushi, two things that stood out were the seaweed wrapping for the maki (nori) and miso soup. The nori had a deep umami scent and had a nice, thick mouth feel. The miso soup also had a unique umami that did NOT taste like cheap restaurant miso stock.Overall the nigiri we had tasted ok, but the fish was cut thin and the cuts were slightly small. The green tea is good. Costs a dollar (but only a dollar). In terms of sake, they only serve your standard house Gekkeikan (hot or iced).“

“The noodles here are amazing! The Tonkotsu Soba’s broth is on point and The salmon noodle poke was light and fresh just how I like it. The only dissapointment I have is that they don’t have ice cream during winter but can’t blame them for that ?“

“Amazing good food! Prices have recently been updated as well, so here is the most up to date menu as of June 2023. I’m from the west coast and the first spot I dined in here on the east coast was Minato sushi! The old school pink classic building just stood out from the rest of the surrounding buildings. It’s well worth it! And it’s only run by husband and wife, super kind and generous vibes from them. Recommend trying it if you are looking for some good Japanese food.“

“Fabulous, fresh, and delicious - hands-down the best sushi in Halifax, and among the best I've had across Canada. A tiny restaurant, it is best for take-out (or delivery), but oh so good, right down to fresh, home-made chopped wasabi. Forget the 'AYCE' sushi joints - this is the real deal.“

“Absolutely excellent restaurant. Their sushi is of great quality and their dishes are simple and delicious. Proportions are generous. Try the tonkatsu it's fantastic. Very open atmosphere with a softer, relaxing light level and located in the middle of a shopping district, so there's lots to do nearby. The staff are remarkably friendly as well.Vegetarian options: There's a few vegetarian options among the sushi choices. I always opt for the firecracker avocado roll, Great taste!Parking: As it's part of a shopping complex, there's quite a bit of parking in front of the restaurant and around the area, including an overflow parking lot about 20 m from the entrance.“

“Amazing food and service. I always come here for their Galbi Tang. It's a new dish and my new absolute favorite. Their other dishes are definitely worth trying to, like bulgogi, kimshi fried rice, and kimbap, to name a few. Don't sleep on the Bingsoo desert. It won't disappoint.“

“This is the most authentic sushi restaurant in Halifax. There are many varieties of sushi. The sashimi ingredients are very fresh. The sushi chef's skills are very good. Their stir-fries are also very unique. The chef is very good. The tempura shrimp is better than other sushi restaurants. They are all large, and the frying technique is very good. The color is golden and the taste is very good. The two waitresses are very young and beautiful, and the service is super great. The manager is very friendly and the service is very attentive. This store has superb cooking skills and excellent service. Finally, I would strongly recommend this store.“

“Fairly large sushi restaurant with nice high ceilings. The sushi tastes fresh but the fish is quite bland. The sashimi is also cut very thick, probably the thickest cuts I’ve ever seen. To be honest it was too thick, and you have to constantly nibble and re-dip into the wasabi/soy sauce. The seafood somen was ok but you have to eat it quick otherwise the somen starts to bloat. The salmon maki was great and they add these little crunchy bits to the bottom to give it some nice texture.Friendly and attentive staff.“

“The family and I went with no expectations. The server was great and easy to chat with. The food was normal wait time to come to the table. It tasted very fresh and delicious! My wife is gluten sensitive, and they were able to accommodate. My 6 year old daughter and mom are very picky and were able to accommodate them too. The price was very reasonable, and I highly recommend trying this place!Parking: Free after 6pm“

“While not necessarily the pinnacle of sushi perfection, these rolls stand out for their excellent value at just $17 for AYCE.If you're watching your budget, this place is a hidden gem. Personally, I have a soft spot for the mango cheese and Alaska rolls – true favorites of mine.“
