“My wife and I generally eat for five people, we ordered 4 small plates and 2 mains, still looking into dessert. Each dish had its own layer of perfection with unique flavors and exquisite presentation. I’d say a restaurant on its way to becoming Michelin…..bravo! Oh and the ole school hip hop added to the vibe. Enjoyed this dinner date immensely!👏👏👏👏😍😍😍😎😎😎“

“Very nice atmosphere and good food.
Style full African designed interior, maybe the light was a little too bright but the rest was absolutely perfect.
The server was knowledgeable, super friendly and explained everything we wanted to know.
The presentation of the dishes was everything! Original and style full. Like a gift that was presented to you.
I had the lamb with asperges as a side my friend the chicken with the joloff rice. We had bites of each other and we both loved both dishes. A number of times she said those asperges are so good! And boy did I enjoy the Joloff rice!
The restaurant is also kid friendly. There was a nice family next to us with a seat for the little one and we enjoyed chatting with them for a bit.
We had a great time. You could see and feel in everything that the owner, has a passion for what he does and takes his craft very serious. A place I totally recommend.“

“This place has always been great. I love their authentic flavors and generous portions for a fair price. Today I decided to call in for a sandwich while waiting outside on my bike. The cashier was super friendly and helpful and even gave me a slice of their awesome pizza to eat while I waited. Far more accommodating to a cyclist than I normally expect. Thanks guys!“

“It was me and my family's first time trying West African food and the people running this place really took care of us. Made sure to explain recommendations and to check in. The Jollof, Banku with Okra stew and Fufu with Egusi was absolutely delicious, hope to be back again.“

“Ordered the lamb dibi w/jollof rice and the chicken dibi w/jollof rice! Both were tender, flavorful, and delicious! Good portions and the customer service is excellent! Totally worth a visit/order! The fish fataya and plantains were perfect! Don't hesitate, give Jollof Cafe & Grill a try! You wont be disappointed!“

“I love this place! It is such a gem for the area! Great energy, awesome event options including comedy, music, special events! I recently went to an incredible special tasting menu that had northern Nigerian specialities that was mind blowing! Monday night comedy is always fun with great drinks from a great bar staff and energy. Alke is also open for coffee which is always nice especially to grab on a walk to the park with the pup or to sit outside when weather allows“

“If your looking for great homemade food and coffee and a taste of Algeria please come to Kashbar Cafe I've been coming here for almost 3 years and as a chef this place is a hidden gem that everyone needs to experience. Walk into the establishment, and be welcomed by the husband and wife team. Simply amazing people; kind and friendly and professional. They go above and beyond to satisfy the customer and the prices are low and the food is plentiful It feels like a second home or a place to get away and relax and have amazing traditional food from Algeria Traditional sweets and popular desserts, coffee and teas, are a great way to finish the experience I come everyday and see the beauty this family has created in just 3 years and they are thriving A weekly changing menu and weekend eats are a must From octopus to lamb and even vegetarian options, they have something for everyone The bread is handcrafted every day and sells out. Grab a few baguettes, I always do Please it's an experience to witness for yourself Hope to see you“

“Owner was dope. Don't expect the food to come quick, which a plus for me bc it let's me know it's being cooked from scratch. The food was good, even the next day eating it cold. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the jollof, guess I expected something different from all the jollof rave videos I had been watching.“

“Not the best place to dine in, especially during the summer when it’s hot out, but really great choice for food that’s filled with tons of flavor and spices; I felt like I was transported out of the country with how authentic it tasted. Highly recommend for those who love eating from hole in the wall restaurants!“

“As someone who has grown up eating Nigerian food I was intrigued to see what DoC would offer and was pleasantly surprised.
It was no frills, high quality Nigerian food that was authentic with no attempts to water it down for a wider audience.
In the night we had Pepper Soup, Warra and Abula.
Great mingling with other guests on the table.
Only downside it that they don’t give you much of a heads up about the BYOB policy’s“
“Berber just catered a corporate lunch at my office, and they were absolutely incredible to work with. Chef D is responsive, kind, and the food was delicious. The presentation was clean and they even provided additional food signage for display. Cannot recommend enough!“

“Everyone was nice enough but I asked another customer what he recommended from the menu. Jollof rice really good, spinach dish excellent foofoo yum. Next time though sticking to the vegetarian options. The chicken and oxtail??♀️ Very handmade homemade vibe which I liked. To the proprietor though, dear sir or Madame, I know this is New York but in the future please do your customers the courtesy of cleaning up any dog ? that may here been left outside the door if your business. I know people here can be inconsiderate , but Accra is an adventure truly. ?“

“Food was nice, well seasoned and tasty. The service was a bit slow when the restaurant wasn't at full capacity. Also, it was cold in there as air from outside came in as people go through the doors. The restaurant is not energy efficient.
I'll definitely be back for the food“

“Surprised it was nearly empty for Saturday lunch. It should have been a lot more people!
The gumbo was warming and like a warm hug, and the fufu was amazing as well, although i had trouble handling it because of how hot it was.
Truly a hidden gem. I would love to come back and try other things.“
“It's a simple no frills restaurant, but the food was so good. Sure the servers aren't actors working a day job. But they were genuine to me and most importantly the food was delicious and I left wanting to return. Generous portions at a very reasonable price!“
“One of the few places in NYC where you can find food from Guinea! Definitely worth traveling up to the Bronx to eat off jalloh’s massive buffet, where breadth is matched by depth in flavor. The food remains high quality (fresh, not too greasy or salty), even at 11:30pm when I visitedI particularly loved the Dhapa et Folêrê , a Guinean grits dish, where the corn is fresh ,fragrant, and unbelievably variegated in texture. You can also choose to eat the folêrê with dishes like bourakhé (cassava leaves stewed in palm oil and smoked fish), a winning combo that delicately juxtaposes the stew's smoke and heat with the mellow and earthy flavors of the grits. Or if you’re craving the smooth and silky texture of okra, there’s maffi gumbo that pairs very well with grits. The options here are endless..“

“Food is always fresh and authentic. To bad there are no tables to enjoy the food in the restaurant ( thanks to covid ). But so worth coming for meal you can indulge in at home.
Parking: If a space is available, you can park on the street in front of the restaurant. I advise that you have someone else in the car in case you may have to move while you're picking up the food.“

“It’s hard to get the Ghanaian taste when you’re far away so My good friend sent me here and I’m forever grateful, great food , tasty sauces, Ghana food joint atmosphere, Nana, you for pass through, I’ll always pass by when I’m in NY…..Oh , they even have Sobolo ✌?“
“Great Senegalese/West African food with huge portions at decent prices. We were shocked at the amount of food we got for $20 (enough for at least 2 meals). While the ambience of the shop might not be great or the staff super friendly, the food and price is what makes it great and why I would recommend it.
The options are usually a protein and a carb and the protein portion is big, fowl would be an entire fowl, fish would be an entire fish etc. The carb options were vermicelli, couscous, rice, fries etc. They also have West African drinks.
We loved the fowl and fried fish and the vermicelli side the most.“

“As a first-gen Ghanaian American, I've always craved the authentic flavors of my parents' homeland. Papaye African Restaurant in the Bronx is a culinary haven that transports me straight to Ghana! The aromas, the spices, the tender meat... every bite is a taste of nostalgia and cultural pride.
I appreciate the simplicity of the menu, which allows the chefs to focus on perfecting the traditional dishes that have been passed down through generations. The jollof rice is a staple, and Papaye's version is a masterclass in flavor and technique.
As a first-gen, it's beautiful to see my culture celebrated and shared with the community. Papaye African Restaurant is more than just a meal - it's a connection to my heritage, a celebration of our traditions, and a reminder of the rich cultural legacy that shapes my identity.

“Authentic West African food geared towards the local West Africans. With that said the decour is very bare and the seating is community styled. If you want a trip to West Africa but can't afford a ticket, this is your place. If you can only eat at Western styled restaurants it's not for you. The foufou is amazing. The lamb dibi is succulent. I love it.“

“It was my first time going there. It was really good. I got the okra soup with FuFu. It was really good but I just didn’t like how the chicken leg was so big. I don’t like big chicken leg so next time I would just try with something else otherwise the food was great. I will go back.“

“This food hit all the spots that it needed to hit. I ordered the small waakye which was a perfect portion for me. The spiciness and meat texture was perfect.
There were two ladies that were serving. One was very nice and explained the ordering process to me as a first timer. The other one just looked angry. She actually walked away while I was talking to her ?. Hope she has better days.
I would order from here again but I won't be eating in.
Vegetarian options: Fried plantain, beans, Gari (arrowroot flakes), spinach stew, yam, fried yam, waakye (rice and beans)“

“Ate here last night and had a great experience with my partner- first time eating Ethiopian in decades and I liked it.
Food came out fast.
Combination plater for 2 is the most cost effective dish, but yummy.
On the other hand, a bottle of beer there is pretty expensive.“

“I got the okra+spinach w/ spicy goat. It was out of this world. The owner gave me a call a few minutes after I made the order to let me know they were out of fufu (pounded yams) and replaced it with yellow rice. I enjoyed the goat — it has a kick but not overwhelmingly spicy. The choice I made was excellent. I am most definitely ordering again and hope I can try the fufu next time.“
