“I give it a 5 stars experience! First off, the vibes and decors are great, music is in point. When my brother and I visited, we were greeted and seated right away. The owner is welcoming and has excellent customer service. The food is A1. We had the poisson, poulet, pintade et alloco...everything was delicious! I lived in Ivory Coast for a while so I can vouch for this. Anytime I'm in NY, I will stop by this restaurant. You should too!“

“Everyone was nice enough but I asked another customer what he recommended from the menu. Jollof rice really good, spinach dish excellent foofoo yum. Next time though sticking to the vegetarian options. The chicken and oxtail??♀️ Very handmade homemade vibe which I liked. To the proprietor though, dear sir or Madame, I know this is New York but in the future please do your customers the courtesy of cleaning up any dog ? that may here been left outside the door if your business. I know people here can be inconsiderate , but Accra is an adventure truly. ?“

“As a first-gen Ghanaian American, I've always craved the authentic flavors of my parents' homeland. Papaye African Restaurant in the Bronx is a culinary haven that transports me straight to Ghana! The aromas, the spices, the tender meat... every bite is a taste of nostalgia and cultural pride.
I appreciate the simplicity of the menu, which allows the chefs to focus on perfecting the traditional dishes that have been passed down through generations. The jollof rice is a staple, and Papaye's version is a masterclass in flavor and technique.
As a first-gen, it's beautiful to see my culture celebrated and shared with the community. Papaye African Restaurant is more than just a meal - it's a connection to my heritage, a celebration of our traditions, and a reminder of the rich cultural legacy that shapes my identity.

“One of the few places in NYC where you can find food from Guinea! Definitely worth traveling up to the Bronx to eat off jalloh’s massive buffet, where breadth is matched by depth in flavor. The food remains high quality (fresh, not too greasy or salty), even at 11:30pm when I visitedI particularly loved the Dhapa et Folêrê , a Guinean grits dish, where the corn is fresh ,fragrant, and unbelievably variegated in texture. You can also choose to eat the folêrê with dishes like bourakhé (cassava leaves stewed in palm oil and smoked fish), a winning combo that delicately juxtaposes the stew's smoke and heat with the mellow and earthy flavors of the grits. Or if you’re craving the smooth and silky texture of okra, there’s maffi gumbo that pairs very well with grits. The options here are endless..“

“This food hit all the spots that it needed to hit. I ordered the small waakye which was a perfect portion for me. The spiciness and meat texture was perfect.
There were two ladies that were serving. One was very nice and explained the ordering process to me as a first timer. The other one just looked angry. She actually walked away while I was talking to her ?. Hope she has better days.
I would order from here again but I won't be eating in.
Vegetarian options: Fried plantain, beans, Gari (arrowroot flakes), spinach stew, yam, fried yam, waakye (rice and beans)“

“The best Ghanaian restaurant in NY, the food here gives nostalgia to eating good food in Ghana.
The Jollof rice was 10/10, the Fried Rice was really good too. Ate Waakye on another visit and that was equally good. The chicken was good too, and the salad was the most Ghanaian salad I've had in America.
The service was okay, but it was a little difficult getting the attention of the servers (probably due to the large amount of orders they deal with).“

“I’ve eaten from stores around the way and “thought” the food was good. But I became a life long resident here after eating this restaurant food. I ordered 2 small Tuo zaafi and okra soup mix with spinach, fried fish and eggs for me and my family. We all Fell in love on the first bite ( I promise ). I could not stop eating until it was the last bite. Went back again and order rice balls Ground nut soup with cow feet just for myself and it didn’t disappoint.
Money Well spend every time.“

“The girl answering the phone call for orders should be taught English because it’s absurd how we in America and she can’t understand simple English when ordering food. You’ve to get an English speaking person to be answering the phone.

“After a long walk from the train, up and down Morrisania's hills, this Bronx West African joint is the light at the end of the tunnel. Each dish is served simply, but somehow magically. Along with the friendliness and enjoyment of sharing the space with all the other customers, the experience is enough to call it one of the top restaurants in the borough.“

“Okay. I read these comments and I have to say. I drive a long way from Westchester county, NY- White Plains, NY to get their food. The woman in the Hijab and other women who have served me have always been pleasant! The food is great and they are lovely people. I'm hoping to pickup food today and I ate in with my family and the lady was lovely.“

“We were looking for some soul food and read some positive reviews so we tried it. The food is good with healthy portions. It's pricey but worth it. The banana pudding is a must try. The atmosphere is not so appealing but I didn't mind since we were doing takeout. The beef ribs were fall off the bone tender, we also tried the mac & cheese, collard greens, yams, cat fish, shrimp, fried whitening, turkey wings, and they did not disappoint.“

“My wife and I saw a great review on IG and decided on the Labor Day weekend to adventure. We left DC for NY with a plan to try this place. It did not disappoint, from the welcoming atmosphere Mami gave us, the food was top chef cuisine, didn’t try anything I didn’t like, plus my wife kept picking off my plate even though she ordered her own stuff…..SMH. I would come back to NY for this again. Highly recommended.“
