“It was a wonderful experience , considering it is my first time. We had to wait a few minutes to get our table for 4 but that’s okay! The employees were super nice and went out of their way to pull and extra table for us. I loved the authentic atmosphere. The lighting, decor, and the overall feeling of the restaurant was great! And amazing food. My family loved what we ordered and the matcha cheesecake for dessert was so good! Compliments to the chef! I could definitely see myself coming back here again, whether alone or with family or friends. Well done, Nippon Cha!“

“This ramen spot in Bayside is actually pretty good. We’ve been here a few times already, and every time the food has been consistent. The portions are not bad at all and the flavors are solid. Nothing too fancy, but definitely satisfying when you’re craving ramen.

The place itself has a cozy, slightly old-school Japanese vibe. Overall it’s just one of those reliable neighborhood places you don’t mind coming back to again and again. We’ll definitely keep stopping by whenever we’re in the area.“

I gave Food/Service/Atmosphere 5 🌟 because they were on par for me. For a local spot, this really took me by surprise.

What I ordered:

Miso Soup:
Standard Miso Soup, nothing groundbreaking, but very tasty. Would have loved a tad more tofu & scallion, but that's just me.

Salmon Avocado Hand roll:
Not the hand roll I expected meaning it wasn't in the cone shape I'm familiar with, but it came presented like a taco with the seaweed as the shell. Salmon cuts were huge, and with great colour, avocado was bright & ripe, coupled with the perfect amount of rice. Everything tasted clean, and fresh.

Yellowtail Jalapeno Nigiri:
I messed up with this, originally I wanted a sushi roll, but my brain flubbed. Great mistake though, because the yellowtail was delicious, practically melted in my mouth, topped with a delicate cut of jalapeno on top.

Love Milk Tea:
Honestly, just a really delicious milk tea topped with osmanthus flower. It was light, refreshing, and not too sweet thankfully.

Wagyu Tataki:
Tataki is meant to be briefly seared on the outside, but the center remains raw. Was this seared to the degree I wanted? No. But, was it delicious? Yes. And the meat was incredibly tender, flavour of the sauces really complimented everything on the plate.

I finished off with a matcha cheesecake to go, I'm sure it'll be good.

With tip, I spent $67

Again, for a local spot in Richmond Hill/Kew Gardens, I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied. Personally, with slight adjustments, these folks would do great in midtown. I spent a little under what I would spend at a restaurant in the city, and got an incredibly satisfying meal, and left full.“

We decided to keep things easy and celebratory by ordering three of the restaurant's party platter dishes to share. This was a fantastic decision. The quality was super across the board. Every piece of sushi, sashimi, and every roll was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. You could tell that the fish was of the highest grade, practically melting in your mouth.

The platters were not only generous in portion but also artfully arranged, making our table look incredibly festive. Even with our large group of ten, the three platters provided more than enough variety and food for everyone to enjoy their fill.

“My wife and I had a great experience at Masaaki and truly enjoyed almost everything about it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the space was clean and thoughtfully designed, and the overall vibe made it a great place to enjoy a meal.

The food was outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was perfect and clearly made with quality ingredients. We especially enjoyed the yaki oysters.

Service once we were seated was excellent. Our servers were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the meal.

The only downside was the experience with the front desk host. At the beginning and as we were leaving, there was no smile, no greeting and no “bye.” That lack of warmth really stood out, especially since everything else in the restaurant was handled so well. It felt unwelcoming and unprofessional and took away from what was otherwise a near-perfect visit.

Overall, the experience was almost perfect. I would absolutely return and recommend this restaurant, and with a more welcoming presence at the front desk, it would easily deserve a full 5-star rating.“

“Another amazing dinner from Katsuno. Our favorite authentic Japanese restaurant in NYC came through for us once again, this time with take-out. Tonight we had the Tuna Avocado Salad, Nigiri Sushi, Pork Hirekatsu, and Tempura Udon. All served with a refreshing can of Funaguchi Kikusui Sake. “I'd recommend this place ... sort of. We chose to sit on the dining side since it was only two of us and didn't want the "show". The service was friendly and good but not overly attentive. Our drinks were very good and a fair price (we had the Oceanside Zombie but without the Sprite added). We both ordered the hibachi surf and turf (lobster and filet mignon) which came with a house salad and clear soup, both of which we really enjoyed. The filet was tasty but the pieces were cut very unevenly so some pieces were medium rare and others were close to well done. The lobster tail was very small and too salty. I would not order it again. I was completely disappointed that the veggies were drowning in teriyaki sauce. There was no indication on the menu that they are served in sauce. I typically love hibachi vegetables but I hate teriyaki sauce! They reminded me more of Chinese takeout vegetables than Japanese hibachi. The fried rice was good but not the best. It came with lots of peas and I hate peas. Another disappointment but not a surprise was they don't offer hibachi mustard sauce. Like so many other places these days they offer yum yum sauce instead which we refused because, yuck yuck. They offered us some ice cream on the house (I think because the server knew I was very disappointed about the teriyaki sauce). It came to the table in little plastic cafeteria style cups with the pull back paper top. LOL. I'm glad it did though because the top listed the ingredients and let's just say, we immediately sent the ice cream back. All in all, not the greatest hibachi experience but also not the worst. I would maybe go back for drinks and try some other menu items ... and hold the teriyaki sauce!“

“The food was good. I got the chicken ongiri sandwich, Moshi white peach soda and a latte. The sandwich was good and the white peach soda was one of the best sodas that I've ever had. I also got a latte which was good. The service was ok. I came for the Ramen noodle soup, but I came too early. (I think he said 11am is when they start serving it). The ongiri sandwich flavors were chicken, beef, eel, calamari, salmon and shrimp. The picture outside the store also show an okra one but I didn't see it in the store. There is outside seating.“
