“I’m literally mid sushi while writing this. This place has the freshest sushi I’ve had in the area. I’m so serious, this is high quality sushi, great texture, great taste, fresh, and overall amazing. The salmon is buttery and the avocado is not hard or too mushy. It’s a bit pricier than other places, but it’s well worth the price. 10/10, I can’t believe I never entered until today.“

“We've found our new go-to sushi spot at Sushi Akio! The experience was exceptional from start to finish. The food was simply fantastic—every roll was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were on point. We especially loved the variety, ordering the Philadelphia, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, spicy shrimp, and eel avocado rolls. Each one was amazing.

The service was top-notch. The server was not only attentive but also incredibly kind, even letting us try their new mango salad on the house (which was delicious!). My father-in-law had the Salmon Mango, and it was a hit as well.

What truly stood out was how mindful they were of our son's sesame allergies. They took extra care to ensure everything was safe for him, which we deeply appreciated.

To top it all off, my wife accidentally left her phone on the table, and the server literally ran after us to return it. That level of care and attention to detail made our experience even more memorable.

We're definitely coming back to this amazing place. Highly recommended!“

“Ended up here accidentally on a layover: Hands down, the best ramen I’ve ever had (springy, slurpy perfection), amazing cocktails (if you like gin the Japanese 75 is a must try!), and whatever the whipped cream, creme brûlée’d banana dessert was tasted like heaven. I even ordered another tonkotsu ramen to go (all the way to Florida) to bring back to my fiancé. They separated all of it, packaged it so it wouldn’t leak, and wrote directions on specific timing for heating up each item! Very impressive service. I’ll be back again!“

“reminds me of grand restaurants in Tokyo! grand but understated in vibe, beautifully furnished with deep wooden paneling and tables throughout. bar seating is a bit tight but the staff is so welcoming and warm. loved the Melonade mocktail made of cantaloupe, shiso tea: not sure why but it tasted like umeboshi (dried plum) to me.

enjoyed some good yakitori - solid chicken meatballs and onigiri (nothing beats Taisho in Midtown- have yet to try the Michelin one though.) karaage (fried chicken) was delicious as was the steamed clams.

if in Greenpoint, worth a visit! it’s beautiful here.“

No exaggeration, my boyfriend and I haven’t stopped talking about this place since we visited last year. We’ll finally be back in town next month and are beyond excited to be dining with them again. Did we book a trip just to eat here!? Maybe… probably… because seriously, this place is exceptional. The owner is the sweetest, most delightful human with an incredible story and the food/service is an unmatched experience. Plus, you simply can’t beat their affordable omakasi prices…but the bigger bonus??? BYOB. Bring your wine, bring your tequila, bring neither or bring both. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a party in the most intimate sense. I never write reviews, but Sushi YOLO is a 10/10, so please, do yourself a favor and go see them before they earn that Michelin Star!“

“We came here to celebrate my partner’s birthday, as we’ve been to about 6 different omakase experiences in the past couple years and have loved the variety of each, this was no exception—but may i say how wonderful it was now?

Atmosphere was clean and warm, with wood and stone features, plates, and interior. We were kindly able to move up our reservation from 5:00 to 4:40 as we had arrived in the city quite early. The staff was all wonderful and had made note from my reservation that it was a birthday celebration which is always SO appreciated, as i know it’s not always something spaces do or are even expected to.
Service: so kind and attentive, everyone was very sweet to us and our chef seemed genuinely happy to talk about the selections for the day.
Food: The best part, was immaculate. Truly a story telling of food that we enjoyed every single piece of. Variety, artistry, elegance and fresh. We went with the $150 19 course selection which came with 4 appetizers, 11 pieces of nigiri, 1 hand roll, a gorgeous wagyu sampler and dessert. (Forgive me if I missed anything, there was so much food and certainly worth the price) The appetizers were inventive and well presented, the sushi was classic and took us through this beautiful little adventure of light to deeper and rich flavors.
Drinks: we got a bottle of cold sake which was served in a sort of wine chilling contraption that was not only a fun spectacle to look at and use, but very functional in keeping our alcohol chilled.
Truly, truly a wonderful experience and would absolutely recommend. Thank you so much.“

“Beautiful spot, everything is so thoughtful from the ceramics hand made by the chef to the incredible soba. Subtle flavors that intertwine to create a light and delicious meal. Highly recommend the shio duck with housemade spicy chili paste. The tofu was also incredible, unlike any tofu I’ve ever tasted and much better.“

“Great spot for a unique omakase experience! It was my first time there, the staff was very friendly and everyone treated us like family, we went with the 18pc course every single item was yummy, We were told some of the crab/fish were even flown in from japan that same day, everything was super fresh. “Amazing intimate tempura omakase experience from start to finish. Considering how small the restaurant is, the reservation only dining, and the attention to detail and to patrons, the pricing is more than fair. Came to celebrate husbands birthday and Daiimu, our waiter was nothing short of giving us the best experience. My husband really enjoyed ten-don in Japan and nothing we had in the US could compare until this experience. All tempura were lightly and perfectly fried. It’s a long meal yes but it’s because you’re supposed to enjoy the meal as well as the company.

Highly recommended and hoping to return in the future.“

“First time here and it was amazing!! First - the ambiance is nice. It’s very cute inside, you take your shoes off and sit on cushions on the ground. It feels very calm and relaxed. Second - the fish is really fresh and the concept is fun. It was cool to experiment with the different salts and make our own handrolls. Every piece was delicious. You also get soup, and they have good drink options as well. Third - great service! Our server checked on us multiple times. He was helpful regarding the menu. He even asked if we were celebrating something special and brought a dessert with a candle! We will definitely be back and I can’t recommend this place more.“

“Had a belated birthday dinner here last night with my gal friends and it was everything I could’ve hoped for.

This was my first omakase experience! From the hot towel, to the ambiance and service, I felt cared for.

We each did the $65 omakase and it was more than enough food. The sushi was so fresh and creative.

My friends really enjoyed the sweeter sakes and next time I’ll be partaking in a glass myself. The Yuza sake is so delicious.

I will be back and highly recommend this place! Thanks for the hospitality.“
