“I went to a family friend’s 70th birthday party they hosted in the Atlantic ballroom. The space was modern and very clean. The food was DELICIOUS!!! And the workers, Yiselle, Estrellita, and Shorty (blonde) made the event so memorable! They paid attention to every detail, whether it was filling our water cups, collecting unused plates and of course they did it all with a warm smile. They were kind, funny and very welcoming. Niurka upon meeting her was very sweet charismatic and ensured to answer all of our questions before booking the space. We kept in communication to make sure everything was right before the night of the dinner. The night of the dinner she made sure everything was set up before our arrival! Every person working that night was professional, friendly, attentive and efficient. The food was amazing as well. This was my first time here, and I will definitely return for another dinner night!“

“Alright, in this neighborhood, there aren't many Latin restaurants left, but La Reina is a mainstay for 2 reasons: 1. The food quality is always clean, plentiful, and consistent. 2. Though their prices have risen (as have every other single restaurant in this neighborhood no matter what the genre of food) they are still the most reasonable around for Latin food. Whenever I stop by they're always friendly accomodating. My favorite dish is their roast chicken, their seasoning blend is top tier. My husband is also a fan of their pernil (and I am too when I steal from his plate). I never leave without getting a hearty portion of habichuelas. Please support this business, they have a hole in the wall but they deserve an entire dining room.“

“It was my first time trying Empanada Queen, a food truck in Baldwin, and overall, it was a decent experience. They had a deal for 10 empanadas for $28, so I decided to try a variety. I went with shrimp, beef, chicken, and mac and cheese empanadas. The flavors were all pretty tasty, with the shrimp, beef, and chicken being the standouts. However, I wasn’t a fan of the mac and cheese one—it just didn’t have the right texture or flavor I was expecting.

The wait time was short, which was a nice surprise, especially since it was freezing outside! I was glad to have the car to wait in while the food was being prepared.

One thing to note is that the outer shell of the empanadas was quite hard, which made them a bit tough to bite into. On the positive side, the fillings themselves were flavorful. The only other downside was that they only offer one sauce, which had a bit of spice to it. While I didn’t mind it, I wish there were a few more sauce options to choose from.

Bartenders attentive and friendly with drinks reasonably priced. $5 regular Coronas.. although they have "Mini Coronas" too. $5 Chicken Empanadas was huge.. and tasty too.. Definitely a local crowd..“

“This is a very busy restaurant, but they are efficient and we did not need to wait long for a table. The decor is nice. Large paper palm trees in the corners and an assortment of masks on the walls.

The menu looks great for non-vegetarians. Not so great for vegetarians. The paella especially looked good. One of the members in our party had chicken and shrimp. The presentation looked impressive.“

“We had a great experience at El Mercadito! The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented with vibrant colors. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit.

The portion sizes were excellent, giving great value for the price. Everything we ordered was full of flavor, and we would definitely come back again. Highly recommend El Mercadito if you’re looking for amazing food and outstanding service!

“The food is definitely delicious—fresh off the grill every time. I used to drive past this place all the time until a friend finally brought me here. We ordered the chicken and steak, and the total came to about $22. I also got a small mixed drink for around $4.

About a month later, I came back and ordered the exact same thing, but my total was almost $40. I noticed the menu board had been updated, even though the online menu still looked similar to what I saw on my first visit.

I understand prices go up, but that kind of increase in such a short time is a lot—especially in Hempstead. 😅

The staff is excellent, the restaurant is clean, and the food is genuinely good. I don’t mind paying a little more for quality, but the pricing should still feel reasonable. Hopefully they can offer some specials, combos, or other accommodations because I’d love to keep coming back.“
