We visited this restaurant to celebrate my 39th birthday on a Tuesday. The traffic was great, and parking was smooth. As we entered, we noticed that the place was barely occupied, likely due to it being a Tuesday. We waited by the door, but no one greeted us. My wife and I held our engagement at Sammy's Fish Box years and finally got around to dining at the Smokehouse. We were promptly seated and feasted on the garlic bread laid before us. We knew we wanted the BBQ Colossal Seafood platter. Instead of the sangria, I had the bourbon mule and my wife got a glass of sangria. Our waiter, Sam, was very professional & accommodating to our large group. After traveling 2 hours, and passing all the other Restaurants, it was worth the trip! Sammy's Smokehouse & Grill offers a mix of dining experiences. Some guests noted a twenty-minute wait despite being on time for a reservation, and a few menu items were unavailable after ordering a $200 colossal bbq and seafood meal. Drinks were described as either too syrupy or tasting flat. However, manager Hillary tried to accommodate, and the service from the wait staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. The food received high praise, with amazing Brisket that is tender and mouth watering flavorful. Popular dishes include the Brisket with Shrimps and Scallops, ribs that are delicious and very tender, and homemade chicken empanades. Sides like Collard Greens and real Candied Yams were also highlights. Portion sizes are generous, often providing leftovers. The ambiance is bright and new, with a big screen tv, a modern fireplace, and cozy window booths. The restaurant is a new favorite on City Island, worth returning to for its excellent food and hospitality.
