There are definitely better gay bars in the area but if you’re looking for a gay dive bar and cheap drinks, this is probably worth visiting. Crowd can be dicey sometimes, drinks are strong, so be careful. Bartenders have always been extremely nice to me when ordering.
I’m not sure why the reviews are so low for this place? I’ve always had a fun time here and I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience but I’ve never felt uncomfortable or even angry. The owner is such a diva and it’s a super cute space with a nice outdoor area. If you’re expecting something higher end and “cleaner”, maybe don’t go to a gay bar in Brooklyn? Just a thought.
Came in on a slower night. Was afforded exceptional service by Meg, who was delightful. Highly recommend.

The outdoor area is nice, with a pool table available for those who enjoy it. The bar has a mostly queer crowd, making it a popular spot for regulars. On Mondays, the bar hosts a drag open night, showcasing local talent. The atmosphere is beautiful, with great dancers and good music that isn't trying too hard. The service is generally good, though some staff members have shown rudeness, especially during busy weekend nights after paying to enter. The bouncer can be a bit vindictive and needs to be more proactive. The bar is a relaxed place, especially during Sunday night drag BBQ events in the summer. Overall, Metropolitan is a great spot to grab a drink and have a good time, but it could improve in staff friendliness and customer respect.
