“Had my husband’s surprise party this weekend. My family has had parties their in the past and Monahan’s continues to live up to their excellent reputation. The servers were so friendly, professional and engaging with our family…their personalities are perfect for their jobs….thank you so much. The food was outstanding….first time we had the stuffed mushroom and they were amazing. All our appetizers, The London broil, turkey and pasta salad were just perfect. My guests were very happy. My family continues to highly recommend Monahan’s. Thank you so much Jeff 😀“

“This restaurant has been in Whitestone for over 38 years and it’s a secret Gem the stuffed veal chop is enormous and it’s awesome the staff is really nice and the marinated steak is the best if in Whitestone it’s worth the trip“

“The restaurant has a area for sitting if you want to eat and another section if you want to drink at the bar. We had a nice lady who attended us and was quick with our orders. The food was pretty good. The mac and cheese was very cheesy. I thought it was cool they brought the burger with the toppings on the side so it didn’t get soggy and you can add it yourself after. The food is made fresh everyday so I recommend trying it out.“

“We had the best pre cruise visit since we were staying nearby at a hotel. Both bartenders were excellent and the regular customers! Made us “southerners” feel comfy and offered up ideas and suggestions of navigating the concrete jungle! If we ever return to NY, we will definitely be back. Awesome food! Awesome service! “I first discovered Finnegans Wake in 1990 and it was and still is my favorite NY place. Those were the days, my friend. We thought they’d never end but I haven’t been back to NYC since 2013. I heard Ignatius passed and May he RIP and Frank, the best bartender must have retired. If not, please give him a shout out from his “California Girls , Maria and Kelly.“

“I’ve lived around the corner for years and finally stopped in a couple months ago to watch the Yankees. It’s great! The bartenders are friendly.

The food from here is killer, too. Did not think the bar food would hit the way it did. I’ve now had most things on the menu. It’s all fire.

“Found this place doing an internet search and didn’t know what to expect. Friendly local bar and staff, wide range of comfort food on the menu, and Smithwicks on draft. A very pleasant experience!“

“I got chocolate chips pancake and turkey egg cheese with home fries. Sandwich was good, they added tomato sauce with mayo, so it all blend in together. The pancake was little disappointing as I had to eat it dry because didn’t provide any syrup. But it was soft and fresh. Would order here again.“

“This is one of my favorite place to go. Eileen is very awesome as is the rest of the staff. This is a true gem for a service worker like myself. Monday is my Friday and my friends will walk over here with me and let me get a proper pint or three. Life ain’t so bad when you can sit here for an evening.“

“Went there for company presentation so only had some of there appetizers. The chicken fingers mozzarella sticks and spring rolls. All were very tasty and the portion was great. All were served with tasty sauce. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Other people that were there were raving about the foods that they had. The only downfall is parking around there.“

“Quiet little pub with traditional irish comfort food and friendly service. We ordered sheperd's pie, a burger and the grilled chicken. We loved all of it and found our server - a tall, young blonde man with a faint european accent to be the friendliest and most attentive service we had all weekend.“

“Excellent take out home cooked meal style food. I love and buy the salmon piece which is huge and is $8. I also get chicken cutlets for the kids. The cabbage and side items also look good but I just add at home a side and the meal is done. Also the coffee is my favorite in the neighborhood. Muffins melt in my mouth particularly the corn and chocolate chip. They should have more chocolate chip or maybe not bc I would buy and eat it more. There food is great home cooked style for a FAIR price. I’m so glad they are in my neighborhood.“

“We were looking for a bar with good prices and relaxing atmosphere for some time with friends. This place did the trick.Breege was a friendly and good bartender. Our first time but the pours were good as were the prices. If we're ever in the area we will try it again.“

“I really wanted to love this place. The decoration and atmosphere are homey. The waitresses have been nice. The bangers and mash were good last time I went. But I've been here 3 times and really expected this to be a regular place for me. But I brought a new friend here and she didn't have a good experience.

We both ordered the brunch special and shared an appetizer. After bringing us our Mimosa and soda bread, a few minutes later we were told they were out of broccoli quiche and only had ham quiche. My friend didn't want ham so she changed to the mini sheapards pie.

The food was ok, her sheapards pie was ok, French onion soup was ok, my ham quiche wasn't good. It was greasy, over cooked, no flavor, I only had a few bites.

When the bill came my friend was charged 9.35 for her small mimosa. I asked for it to be taken off the bill because it wasn't our fault they didn't have the brunch item she ordered and she didn't want ham. The manager told our waitress no, that my friend changed her mind and didn't get the brunch so now she has to pay full price for the mimosa (but they didn't charge for her soda bread).

This should have been handled differently. They could have given her a discount, brunch, happy hour price. We never would have paid 9.35 for a mimosa and we do get them a lot at other brunch places. Or it should have been mentioned when she had to change her order that since they already brought her drink and bread so she should chose another brunch item or would be charged for the drink.

So we left feeling slighted, had to make an effort to forget it and have a nice day. But we were both annoyed. The Manager should have compromised since it wasn't our idea to get drinks first then change her order.

My friend will never go back and I'm bummed, I wanted to like the place so bad. We spent $88 on brunch for two and are always good, polite customers that take and post pics and always tip minimum 20 percent.“

“Stopped into Carlow East around 3 PM and had a great experience. The bartender was fantastic friendly, attentive, and had a great personality that made the visit enjoyable. Service was prompt, and they made sure everything was taken care of without being overbearing.

The beer was cold, poured perfectly, and exactly what you want when stopping in for a drink. The welcoming atmosphere and excellent service will definitely keep me coming back whenever I'm in the area.“
