Irish Restaurants near Forest Hills, NY

“I really wanted to love this place. The decoration and atmosphere are homey. The waitresses have been nice. The bangers and mash were good last time I went. But I've been here 3 times and really expected this to be a regular place for me. But I brought a new friend here and she didn't have a good experience.

We both ordered the brunch special and shared an appetizer. After bringing us our Mimosa and soda bread, a few minutes later we were told they were out of broccoli quiche and only had ham quiche. My friend didn't want ham so she changed to the mini sheapards pie.

The food was ok, her sheapards pie was ok, French onion soup was ok, my ham quiche wasn't good. It was greasy, over cooked, no flavor, I only had a few bites.

When the bill came my friend was charged 9.35 for her small mimosa. I asked for it to be taken off the bill because it wasn't our fault they didn't have the brunch item she ordered and she didn't want ham. The manager told our waitress no, that my friend changed her mind and didn't get the brunch so now she has to pay full price for the mimosa (but they didn't charge for her soda bread).

This should have been handled differently. They could have given her a discount, brunch, happy hour price. We never would have paid 9.35 for a mimosa and we do get them a lot at other brunch places. Or it should have been mentioned when she had to change her order that since they already brought her drink and bread so she should chose another brunch item or would be charged for the drink.

So we left feeling slighted, had to make an effort to forget it and have a nice day. But we were both annoyed. The Manager should have compromised since it wasn't our idea to get drinks first then change her order.

My friend will never go back and I'm bummed, I wanted to like the place so bad. We spent $88 on brunch for two and are always good, polite customers that take and post pics and always tip minimum 20 percent.“

“Great food, great Guinness, great vibes! Wolfe Tone's was absolutely FABULOUS on Marathon Sunday! Derek was such a pleasure to work with in the weeks before our big day and he and the entire staff took such great care of us and our family and friends post-race! They truly went out of their way to make sure everyone was comfortable, well-fed, and never without a drink! The location is also great, it was easy for everyone to get to and for everyone to go home from (so close to Grand Central and the 6 train!) One of the best pints of Guinness I've had outside of Ireland, such a cozy atmosphere and incredible staff members. Classic Irish pub food, which everybody loved! The classics are classics for a reason, and they were very well done. I’ve also had dinner here on a regular night, and it’s just as good! Great pub fare, generous portions, and a really relaxed, friendly vibe. It’s not just a perfect event spot, it’s a great place for an everyday meal too. I am so grateful to Wolfe Tone's for being a great, reasonably priced, delicious, comfy and cozy place to celebrate post-race. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to host any kind of event. “We are never disappointed when we stop here when we visit NYC. Atmosphere and food is always fantastic and they make killer Manhattans. We just went for the 2023 Rockefeller tree and the staff was pleasant and accommodating. so happy they were decorated for the holidays. 100% go to in our opinion.“

“Watched the world cup here. We had reservations and we sat upstairs. Only two smaller tvs upstairs but they did the job. The food was good but not incredible. The server was excellent. One weird thing, they made a mistake with our order and brought out wings with buffalo sauce instead of bbq. I told the server about it and the kitchen made us another order, but they took the buffalo wings that they messed up. Is that weird? I mean, they probably just threw them out and I could have eaten them... (My kids are the ones that can't handle the heat.) Good experience, even if my team lost!!“

“This restaurant has been in Whitestone for over 38 years and it’s a secret Gem the stuffed veal chop is enormous and it’s awesome the staff is really nice and the marinated steak is the best if in Whitestone it’s worth the trip“

“Had my husband’s surprise party this weekend. My family has had parties their in the past and Monahan’s continues to live up to their excellent reputation. The servers were so friendly, professional and engaging with our family…their personalities are perfect for their jobs….thank you so much. The food was outstanding….first time we had the stuffed mushroom and they were amazing. All our appetizers, The London broil, turkey and pasta salad were just perfect. My guests were very happy. My family continues to highly recommend Monahan’s. Thank you so much Jeff 😀“

“The restaurant has a area for sitting if you want to eat and another section if you want to drink at the bar. We had a nice lady who attended us and was quick with our orders. The food was pretty good. The mac and cheese was very cheesy. I thought it was cool they brought the burger with the toppings on the side so it didn’t get soggy and you can add it yourself after. The food is made fresh everyday so I recommend trying it out.“

“I first discovered Finnegans Wake in 1990 and it was and still is my favorite NY place. Those were the days, my friend. We thought they’d never end but I haven’t been back to NYC since 2013. I heard Ignatius passed and May he RIP and Frank, the best bartender must have retired. If not, please give him a shout out from his “California Girls , Maria and Kelly.“

“I got chocolate chips pancake and turkey egg cheese with home fries. Sandwich was good, they added tomato sauce with mayo, so it all blend in together. The pancake was little disappointing as I had to eat it dry because didn’t provide any syrup. But it was soft and fresh. Would order here again.“

“Me and my family love Cassidy’s. We go to NY every year for Christmas. This year we had a group of 23 and Seamus was able to accommodate us with a reservation. Our waiter was Joe C. ,who was great. It’s not easy waiting on a large group of people, but he was super patient and kind.“

The food from here is killer, too. Did not think the bar food would hit the way it did. I’ve now had most things on the menu. It’s all fire.

All were served with tasty sauce. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Other people that were there were raving about the foods that they had. The only downfall is parking around there.“

“I came down for the first time last month to watch the Celtic match starting at 7 am, I didn't know what to expect but the food was great, the staff were all very welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was great even in the early morning. I was so impressed I stayed after to watch the EPL matches they were showing even though I'm not a big EPL fan. I will definitely be coming back, and it's a must-visit for any Celtic supporter in the New York area.“
