“Their pizza is the bomb! My compliments to the chef. The two gentlemen were very pleasant and courteous. The presentation of the pizza was neat and lovely. On my drive home from the restaurant, the smell was awesome, and I couldn't wait to get home, so I could dig in! The pizza tasted as great as it smelled. I will be visiting them again as soon as possible.
Just to update: I have visited them 3 times since my first time and I have to say their pizzas are great! I've tried three different varieties, and you can taste the difference being that it's halal, you can taste the difference in how healthy the ingredients are, you're getting better quality ingredients and better quality food. I take time out to drive miles to them just have their food because the service and the atmosphere it's always great they're so pleasant with you, they treat their customers like they're family that they haven't seen in a long time that they missed. The chef Gurbinder does a fantastic job and the presentation is always great.“

“Tonight was the first time I got Mecca Halal food after months of not getting it. I don’t get it as often as before because I live in Suffolk, but when I’m in the Nassau or Queens area and am craving some halal food, this is my go to spot.

I feel the food has gotten better and more tasty since I last got it in maybe 6 or more months ago. This halal cart won’t disappoint you. You should definitely come to this cart and give their food a try. Plus, you’ll get a free beverage if you order a platter.“

I had the pleasure of dining at Bakhtar Afghani Restaurant recently, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and the inviting aroma of grilled meats and spices made it clear we were in for something special.

The hospitality was top-notch. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, and our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to recommend popular dishes. We felt truly welcomed, as if we were guests in someone’s home.

We started with the Bolani, a traditional Afghan stuffed flatbread, which was perfectly crispy and flavorful. Then came the mantu – Afghan dumplings filled with seasoned ground beef and topped with yogurt and split peas – absolutely delicious and delicate in flavor.

The highlight, however, was the mixed grill platter. Each skewer was grilled to perfection – the chicken kebabs were juicy and well-marinated, the lamb chops were tender and bursting with flavor, and the kofta kebabs had just the right blend of spices. Every bite showcased the richness of Afghan culinary tradition.

The rice dishes deserve their own praise – the kabuli pulao in particular was phenomenal. Fluffy basmati rice layered with sweet carrots and raisins, paired with tender chunks of lamb – a true comfort dish that felt like it was made with love.

For dessert, we had the firni, a creamy Afghan rice pudding, subtly flavored with cardamom and garnished with pistachios. It was the perfect way to end our meal.

The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the quality of the food was outstanding. Whether you’re familiar with Afghan cuisine or trying it for the first time, Bakhtar is a must-visit. It’s a place that combines authenticity, flavor, and heartfelt service in a way that’s hard to find.

“We spend between $40 to $100 each month. It is our favorite halal food place around the Franklin Square New Hyde Park area. We also tried the cart style ones around Little Neck and Hillside Ave and this place blows them out of the water in price, quantity and quality. Each platter can be split for two servings if you wanted to.

We usually buy the lamb and chicken rice platters which we love. But we have tried the chicken burger, beef burger, and the Philly cheesesteak also.

The chicken sandwich was presented to us beautifully but is dry and horrendous, they need to do better. I can make a better beef burger at home. And the philly cheesesteak is more like a chopped cheese hero. The Philly is not too bad but there is very little meat for the price and you may still be hungry afterwards.

The servers here are friendly and quick and efficient. And the place is pleasant to eat in if you choose to. I would stick to their platters or their gyros when ordering.“

“This place crushes Chipotle and Guac Time in both price and flavor. Great people at this location, always inviting while providing great service. Chicken Birria is to die for. Tons of options with many more choices to fill your bowl or burrito. Spicy queso and spicy guac to name just two. Churros are awesome as well. Hands down, the best fast casual Mexican food in Northeast Queens. We are already regulars.“

Typically the lamb meat is cooked with onions mixed in but when I informed Angela that all three of my kids don’t like onions, she very happily and without hesitation grilled up fresh lamb by itself.
