“I stopped looking for soup, because I wasn't feeling well. They did not have any, but they were kind enough to point me to another deli that had some (not that great), and I was thankful. I have to return here to support their business.“

“I’m always on the lookout for authentic spots—and Gretel & Sons Soul Food absolutely delivered. I came across this place through an Instagram post and decided to give it a try, and I’m glad I did.

I ordered a main with two sides, and everything was on point. The fried fish was cooked to order, came out hot, and had incredible flavor—crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. You can tell they take pride in freshness and timing. For sides, I went with the collards and kale cooked with turkey necks—super flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. Definitely one of the standout dishes. My second side was the sweet potato bread, which honestly looked more like two slices of cake. It was soft, rich, and absolutely amazing—borderline dessert but still fits right in with the meal.

One thing I will say—this place deserves even more visibility. If they had a street-front presence or were located somewhere high-traffic like Roosevelt Field Mall, they would easily have lines out the door. The quality of the food is there, and it speaks for itself.

“I experienced Nettie’s for the first time last evening. My dining experience was excellent from arrival to departure. The food was “DELISH!” The owner was welcoming & hospitable, the service was good, and the music and atmosphere wea awesome! “I was craving collard greens - and looking for a new place to try. I found Village BBQ on line and was impressed with the reviews so off I went. Randy the owner is not only the nicest guy but a fantastic chef! He and his wife run the business. I had his brisket (at his insistence!) Delicious! Sweet potatoes and collard greens. Customer next to me raved about the banana pudfing so I added that too. All 5 star!!! Very happy I took the chance on a place in a gas station!!“

“I have been going to this spot for over 25 years and until tonight n once before have not had a rude server. The young man working the window tonight 5/04/26 needs to be put in the back. He wanted to take my card as I placed my order n when I said how much is it he started adding in his head n when I said go pack n ring the order first he slammed the window. Then instead of telling me they had no wings or verifying my order he just packed it n showed me what he was gonna give me. Never spoke to me to say what he was doing. When he came for the card he still never said how much it was he just slammed the window again. When he was handing me everything I started to tell him look im a long time customer he never let me finish my sentence he just slammed the window again. Still the best chicken in queens... but this guy made me feel like if I come to the window n he is the server then I will just drive off n come back when hes not there. Im complaining becz this is not the first time he served me n it was the same the other time too.“

“Food was great we ordered the fry chicken with rice and peas and salad. We originally wanted B-B fry but there was none . We got mild beef , ackee , vegetable and chicken patties as well. They were a little small and needed some more filling but they were tasty.“

“Place is very clean, the food does taste good, you only have to watch out for the amount you take it goes by weight. Overall, I like the food here, its buffet style most things are weighted by the pound.“
