“Visiting from New Orleans and a friend took us here. I didn’t expect much from a soul food restaurant, since I am a southern girl and good cook I am told, BUT I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!! “I was in the mood for GOOD soul food last weekend. I went in my Yelp app and realized there weren't much options close to Flatbush area. I drove to Katie O Soul and liked there was a short line and DJ outside. One window opened a wonderful young lady asked if I have eaten there before and I said no.
I love the tiny sample cups and spoons because you try before you buy and know exactly what to order once you get to the cashier. The frozen pina colada was super creamy and perfect amount of sweetness. The Mac and cheese and candied yams were a perfect combo for me. The fried chicken wings were well seasoned like someone granny made it.
Be prepared to wake because I was there over 10 mins and my food was piping hot like the chicken was just fried. I will definitely be back for the customer service and food.

I also love any donations (they don't accept tips) the team claps and announce to the crowd and all proceeds provide FREE home cooked meals to people in need.“

“This was one of my favorite meals of the trip. Ayat serves Palestinian food and it's a beautiful restaurant. Service was warm and the server had great recommendations. We loved the mezze sampler (eggplant, hummus, and yogurt sauce were the best), pizzawarma, and above all, the mansaf w/ lamb shank (incredibly tender). “My best friend and I visited Essence Bar and Grill yesterday (8/8/26). We wanted to grab a bite to eat and enjoy some music so I suggested this place since we hadn’t visited in years.

Our server was amazing and knowledgeable about all of the menu items. She has a wonderful personality and we enjoyed our conversation with her.

She suggested a few menu items and we both decided to order two side orders of yams along with our orders of buffalo wings & fries and a fish, shrimp and fries basket.

The temperature of the food when served was good and the food was delicious. We are both ready to go back for another meal because our experience was great.“

“So this hidden gem is AMAZING! I went with my family and I will never forget the hospitality. I had salmon and omg it was crispy on the outside and soft inside. It was the freshest salmon I tasted and was on a bed of rice so healthy and still tasty! I tasted a Turkish soda and it was fruity and the best combination of sweet and tangy The salmon SKIN was amazingly crispy! Yes the skin. This Turkish/Mediterranean place is a place I will forever go to and overlooked. The atmosphere of the place felt like me at home so laidback!“
