“First time visitor of Girasoles. Small neighborhood restaurant in the Jamaica area. There are a handful of seats, some bar style and a table or two. It’s summer so it’s a bit warm in there even with the AC running. (Sit in the back, AC feels better there.) The lady that took the order was pleasant. Decent service, suitable for the establishment.

I tried the Steak Quesadilla as my introduction to their cuisine. The steak was tender and flavorful, the Cojito queso was new to me but added to the meal perfectly. My platter came with shredded lettuce, one small tomato slice (could have used a few more) and a little bit of guacamole. This didn’t seem like restaurant quality. It was better, more like mom or abuela was back there preparing dishes. I added a Coca Cola, the cool glass bottle ones that taste just a little bit better than the others you buy. (IYKYK)

“One of my favorite place to grab lunch during lunch break. Usually like their burrito bowl. Like the food but front cashiers behavior is not nice. All the time they make faces as if they are tired and not at all welcoming.

“Quick eats spot that I think is underrated. Amount of food is reasonable for the price and not to mention delicious. I ordered takeout but there are about 3 tables in the restaurant for dine-in. Also, it’s a mom and pop shop and their daughter works the register. They’re super respectful and sweet. You should definitely go support them and try their yummy food!“

“Grandma style cooking! Delicious, affordable, generous portions. Family owned and quaint. The burritos are the size of your head and the al pastor is amazing. The birria tacos are delicious so juicy to dip. Love the salsa verde on everything! Try the mole tamales on the weekends you won’t be disappointed- always fresh and steamy. If you’re looking for high quality home cooking this is the place to go. Happy to have you in our community- making City Island a better place. 10/10 would recommend to everybody.“

Our only issue was when we arrived there wasn’t any music playing for a while and out of nowhere loud music started playing which threw us off as we were sitting by a speaker. “What a gem! I stopped by Ay Chiuwawa in Astoria and was blown away. The place is super clean, the vibe is welcoming, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive from the moment I walked in.

I ordered the birria tacos and they were absolutely amazing — packed with flavor, cheesy, juicy, and just the right amount of heat. You can tell they put care into their food. Everything tasted fresh and authentic.

We also had the steak(so excited we didnt take pics of it🤦‍♂️)with some kind of cheese ontop..ALSO DELICIOUS!. She had a margarita with chocolate instead of salt on the rim..It had some interesting things in it that made it incredible and unique... I apologize for not having the names of everything but for a first time visit we were happily impressed.. Our waiter Oscar was AWESOME!!!! GREAT SERVICE! I cant forget the bartender Eugenio his drinks were AMAZING!! Here's a fun fact - A BRONX TALE movie was shot next block over.. “Wow what a great meal! Everything was fast and fresh. I came in and asked for any soup they had. Loved my meal, everyone was so sweet. A great hole in the wall spot- prices are amazing for the amount of food you get. I paid $19 for this and took a lot of leftovers home. I will absolutely come back again. $3 for fresh, homemade tacos and tortillas. You can't beat that. Not a lot of seating tho! But such a casual, family atmosphere- I really enjoyed myself.“

My main complaint is the chicken still has fatty parts or is not being cooked throughly, two separate occasions I haven’t been able to eat it without feeling like im chewing on a tire and then spitting it out.
