“I've been here 4 or 5 times. The quality of food and service is inconsistent, so it's hit or miss. However, when the carne guisada isn't overcooked and they serve it with enough chile gravy, it's one of the best things I've ever eaten.“

“Our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in NYC closed about 9 months ago. Since then, we have been searching for a replacement with no success. Last night we found a great one, Javelina. The chips were very crisp, and the salsa was spicy and delicious. My skinny margarita(s) were full of flavor and not too sweet. The guacamole was excellent. Nachos were way better than you normally find. Chicken and beef tacos were both great. Even the rice and beans were far above average. The only minor issue was that the tables are small and a bit cramped. But the very reasonable price offset the minor seating discomfort. The room was crowded and a little noisy, but totally to be expected on a Saturday night when the food is excellent and the price is low. We will definitely go back to Javelina, but probably not on Saturday night, A total Tex-Mex find!“

“Called by today to get a drink and a bite to eat. The welcome was warm and the drinks cold and refreshing! We weren’t going to order any food to begin with but the menu looked lovely and didn’t disappoint.“

“Love it here! Quality, authentic spot! Been coming for over a decade. The waiter, Kevin, is super nice, fast service, and knowledgeable about the menu (and tequilas!). Atmosphere both indoors and outdoors is vibey and adds to a memorable experience (look at photos). A celebratory spot, but not too loud. Nicely balanced for all occasions! My favs are the ground beef tacos, 8-mile high nachos, the guac, and sweet plantains (I recommend with sour cream!).“

“This is one of our favorite places to PLAY MUSIC in the city, and we love it so much... we go there on our off nights, too, just to hang out. There's always a friendly scene and the food, drink, and atmosphere are unbeatable. Top 1 place in NYC.“

“We ordered carnita tacos and the presentation was very good, although the meat was a little too salty, you could eat it, the atmosphere is like a bar where you can go to talk with friends but it is also familiar. In conclusion it is nothing wow but it is not the worst either so you can pass on the customer service is good.“

“Was skeptical about this place at first because I didn't want to pay $5 for one fish taco (shame on me) BUT after tasting it... I was hooked! Especially since they use cod and not tilapia like other places do.
The establishment is authentic and the food tastes like it with really reasonable prices and great food. Now fyi the guac and churros aren't the best by themselves. You should order the guac mixed in and the churros.. I don't know what to advise on that one but hey you might like it.. idk
The agua frescas are delicious especially the watermelon when in season.
I can definitely say try them for that quick casual local neighborhood spot that will satisfy your cravings for Mexican food. ❤️“

“They never disappoint. I’m always here for Mexican and Chinese food. Although I will say if they sealed their burritos by frying the tortilla and added a little bit more meat then I would give it a 10 out of 10. There Chinese food always hits.“

“Parked on 19th Street from Mon–Fri, and on Governors Island at the weekends, this Mexican-food food truck serves up tasty tacos and such. I loved the cecina (salted beef) taco with its tender, flavourful slices of meat, chopped cilantro & onion, and avocado crema. The chicken taco was well-seasoned and tender, too. Two tacos was a perfect lunch. The empanadas are of the fried, short-pastry-style, and pretty large.Kind staff who know how to deal patiently with indecisive tourists, too :)“

“This place is definitely a sleeper. When you’re hungry Tex mex food just hits different. I won’t lie, they don’t do the best wrap jobs on the burritos and the meat be dry sometimes, but honestly the flavoring is good. The price is okay, they be wanting almost 4 dollars for a taco.“

“been coming here for a real long time. there isn't a better place to get a decent burger around. burritos are good too(chipotle on 65 is terrible in comparison). it's a mom and pop shop that can definitely miss on some foods but it's one of the best value/foods around with inflation and all. they need to put a little more detail in how they make their food but definitely go for the burritos/combos burgers as others have stated.“

“Absolutely love this spot in my hometown of Ridgewood! The Margaritas here are hands-down the best in town—perfect if you’re looking to enjoy a nice buzz. The servers are always incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home every time. The vibe inside is super cool too, with colorful, artsy walls and a laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect for hanging out with friends or just unwinding. Every visit is a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!“

“I love love love this place. The staff is very kind. They speak very fluently and there is never a problem with your order. They are polite and I love the food. They even deliver to some places you think they won’t. The reason they don’t get the full five stars is because the restaurant needs a paint job. The fish are beautiful but the paint is old and it takes away from the restaurant just a little. Not the taste tho the food is on point.“

“Great local takeout spot for tex mex food. Filling, good taste, inexpensive and friendly people. The enchiladas, chimichangas and combo dish are my go to. Also really like the chorizo taco and black bean taco, black and pinto beans with rice.Even the American food is pretty good, especially if youre trying to decide what to order with a picky eater: burgers, onion rings, chicken or steak sandwiches.Try the fried apple sticks..“

“*adding to my original review* Calexico did not ask me to edit my review. I really appreciate great customer service and the Calexico team provided just that! We were invited to give them a second chance so my friend and I revisited today. We were met with a sincere apology for our prior experience as well as provided stellar service. It’s not everyday that a business goes out of their way to show care to their customers in the way Calexico has!
Food wise, the churros were amazing and the barbacoa (tacos and burrito) delicious.
*original experience* My pregnant friend and I ordered the burrito lunch special today. We asked to substitute the beer with something else as my friend is pregnant and I’m breastfeeding and had my infant with us. The waitress informed us that we could not substitute the beer that comes with the burrito special for an alternate drink so we accepted it and went without a drink for our meal. When the bill came, we were surprised to find that we were charged with the full price of the burrito alone when we had specified ordering the special. The waitress did not tell us ahead of time that we couldn’t order the special without ordering a beer. We explained our situation and why we couldn’t drink the beer to the manager and she was quite rude saying we saw the price of the burrito on the menu when we ordered as well as the special being there to help their beer sales. We even asked if we could give the beer that came with our meal to someone else in the restaurant and she said no. We were very confused and surprised of this treatment considering the family friendly neighborhood and medically not being able to drink for the safety of our babies.“

“This place is a gem !
They’re open until 2 am so if you got the munchies and want some pupusas or tacos or a drink this is a good place to go or order out from. The pupusas are amazing and they got masa de arroz, which I personally like way more than maíz. If it’s just pupusas you can eat with like 10 bucks. The drinks do add up. Give them a try !“
