We had a good time. Love the toy sitting open on the bar for patrons to kill time and start a fun conversation around.“
“This place is great for what it is. A lot of the hipster bars nowadays are trying to be something they're not and this place isn't really like that. I also like how they have a dice game with a jackpot you pay a dollar to roll that's dope. I have no idea if they have food so can't comment on that“

Now that I have discovered they have an Elf mural and a resident (of sorts) French bulldog with his own barstool, this is a must stop while visiting this neighborhood. “Food in the back and grab a number. While you wait you can get cocktails or cheap beer and shots if you like or an underrated pint of Guinness at the bar. Staff never makes you feel unwanted which can happen at similar bars. Perfect neighborhood joint“
“We had the VFW in Astoria booked for a celebration of life for my mom and brother. We waited and waited and no one showed up to let us in. A crowd began to gather and still no word from the VFW. My wife and sister searched the area and stumbled up The Local. They explained our situation and the bartender was more than accommodating. We were able to use the outside area which was quite spacious and bring our own food!!! All they asked was that we bought some drinks(which were amazing!!!) I will definitely visit the Local whenever I'm in Astoria!!!“

“Located in a cozy nook of Roosevelt Ave. The drinks are solid and the service is on point. Great place for conversation or a fun game of darts. I must say the decibel level of the music was just right. I didn't feel like I had to talk extra loud to people next to me. It had a chill vibe to it and I would definitely recommend it.“

My only complaint is that it seems word has gotten out about this place over the past year, and has become super crowded on weekends. Still, love Pearl's and keep coming back.“
“Where to start? Shines is hands down the best bar in the West End! Staff is great; always available for a conversation a laugh and a good time. The reason for me writing this post is to appreciate the level of care and concern for safety of all patrons that the staff has. I won't write out the entire thing, but on one occasion I was being followed/had someone not leave me alone. Mike, Tom and (another) Mike made sure that the guest left and kept me safe while he was leaving. They made sure that the unruly guest didn't see me leave or follow me, and got him to leave me alone while I was at the bar. Its great to see a group of people that put the safety of their guests at the forefront of their business even if it is a busy Sunday Night. Also, drinks are on point, and while they don't serve food, they are always open to you ordering/eating outside food at the bar while you have a drink!“

“An awesome dive bar that you would typically see in the East Village. The place is laid back and unpretentious. They have a happy hour special with $5 beers, but honestly, it's not even needed. Their beers are regularly $5-$7 as it is. There is a small outdoor seating area at the back as well and the bartender offers free popcorn to everyone. Overall, this is a nice spot to hit up after dinner.“
“It was a chill vibe. I went on a Saturday night and there were maybe 5 other people there, drinking and watching the hockey game. I paid 11 dollars for two cosmopolitans, not bad for the area. Plus they were STRONG and the bartender was quick and attentive. I would come again. I wish there were games there. I only saw the darts, maybe I missed it. It's pretty dark and dated like someone else mentioned. In any event, I would come again. Good spot to start the night out bar hopping.“
“Listen if you’re looking for no thrills this is the Dig ol Bicks of bars. Each person in staff is an absolute legend a mommy if you will. I would sooner be waterboarded than choose any other neighborhood bar. If you’re looking for anything other than cheap drinks good people and an A+ atmosphere than pick a different spot. “
“Best local secret I'm afraid to give 5 stars cause then it may get crowded! That's just me being selfish. It's clean, the bartenders are all sweet and willing to concoct some magic upon my request. It's your typical local bar so don't go in expecting dazzling service and maidens awaiting your request need to grunt a little. However the regular patrons I've encountered here so far are pretty friendly. They have several TVs so whatever sport your looking to watch they'll accommodate.“
