“Really nice place just steps from the 6 train or a short walk from Pelham Bay Park.
Happy hour wings are very flavorful, jollof and stew are amazing, peppery and full of flavor that builds. They have Nigerian Guinness too, for those who like a stronger, brighter take on stouts.“

“Hands down one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! Ordered the jellof rice w/ lamb and it was DELICIOUS — their homemade juices are a must have as well. And that puff-puff *chefs kiss.* 10/10 across the board with their lovely and beautiful staff. 😊“

“This is my favorite place I've eaten on Arthur Avenue. I had the grilled lamb and it was delicious, the best lamb dish I've had in a long time and a large portion that I had enough to pack some up to take home. Service was friendly and welcoming. The ginger drink is fantastic, strong and spicy and you can tell they use fresh ginger. Nice atmosphere with good music. The price is a good deal for the quality and portion of the food. A lot of people near me ordered fried whole fish which looked great, I'll try that next time.“

“My husband is a top chef from Jamaica who is very skeptical about out door dining. My daughter google and found this amazing spot. My 8 years old was devouring the food which was spicy yet sooo good. I brought home some and convinced my husband to taste what our son had regardless of the spice..He said it is the best food he has ever had...this man does not give any resturant credit ..we lived in the Hamptons for over 10 years and he never gave any of those fancy restaurants credit. He said since 2016 its the best take out he has ever had. Now
He asked me to drive 1 hr 45 minutes to get him 2 servings..“

“Arrived just before 15:00 and met a calosed and locked door. I called their phone number and it rang and rang. We tried knocking and after a few minutes a woman arrived, also tried calling, and began banging on the restaurant window. She mentioned something about Ramadan being the reason they weren't open. Not too long after her banging, someone came to open the door and as we tried following the woman in she closed the door on us. The guy who opened the door from the inside opened the door again and said we could come in. We quickly learned that the woman worked there as she went straight to the back room. Confused and a little annoyed, we sat. My partner and I were the only ones there. A server approached us and said they were only offering three things for the menu, which was different from online. After clarifying that there were indeed only three things on the menu, I ordered the jollof with fish and the goat in peanut soup and rice dish. Before the food arrived, I asked the server if she could turn on the heat, as it was not on. Mind you, this was a Wednesday in February in Harlem. She turned on the heat and the TV, which was played news at a moderate volume. The waters and food came and it was delicious. Plenty rice with the goat and peanut soup, good ratios on the jollof plate. Smaller rice grains than I am used to, but thoroughly enjoyed my plate and taking bites of the jollof.
I appreciated there being a container for washing in the bathroom. I was given $3 back in cash, something about being overcharged on my card? Shrug. No menu so I don't know what the total should have been / what the deal was with that. Overall, I'd go back for the food and hope for being true to opening hours, attending to the phone, and having a menu.“

“This place is a hidden gem. We arrived on a very rainy day, yet once we got inside there was sunshine everywhere. My friend and I were so happy. The food was just delicious and the service was top notch.
I am vegetarian 90% of the time, however, I had fish that day and it was superb. We had the Poisson Grill, the Sweet Plantains, and the Ris Gras with no meat. Let me tell you, I ate slower on purpose!! So flavorful and so smooth… The sauce that came with the Ris Gras was amazing too!!
This experience could not have been the same without Amy!! She was the best waitress ever. She greeted us like we were family and her smiles, amazing knowledge of the menu, and energy was just perfect. I used to train servers and Amy made it look so easy. Please support this off the beaten path restaurant! Tell them Chase sent you!!!“
“Absolutely love this place! We really needed something like this where you can order from different restaurants all in one spot. My food was perfectly packed, incredibly delicious, and super fast. I’m so glad one opened nearby. I used to go to the one near my job on 23rd Street, so this is super convenient!“

“We stumbled on this place your local home-cooked. The food is great. They just need to get more organized. We came there with friends raving about the food place our orders and they came back stating they ran out. We had to wait. It was late on a Saturday. If you’re going there go early before they run out of food.“

“Nice family restaurant. My first visit & taste of S. African french cuisine. Not too many place can offer good food at a reasonable price. This place does. Service was good. I had the Escargot & Tunisian Sausage. Both good. I like french food, but don't have it often since it's very rich. My hubby enjoyed the broiled Lamb chop. We shared the chocolate mousse torte. It was perfect, not too sweet. The flavors of the meal was spot on. Not overly salted, sweetened nor was there msg like most restaurants these days. Overall, I would go back & recommend this little gem. Our friend, long time patrons of La Baracka, had the AYCE lunch, which they enjoyed.“
“I came here around a decade ago. They did not have a buffet back then, as many of the reviews here state. I remember liking this food. The restaurant was empty when it was new, mostly because the neighborhood folks couldn't afford restaurant food. But I noticed a large staff, which gave me the impression of whoever opened this spot, did it with love.
I'm Latin X of Caribbean Colombian and Coastal Ecuadorian decent. I came here to say, many Colombians would be shocked to find what Colombians believed were their cultural foods, right here in a West African restaurant. I remember seeing a whole wall stacked with just bunuelos, Colombian style. When I asked, oh you guys sell Colombian food too? They all looked at me like I was crazy, even though I was standing right next to the bunuelos, slowly realizing, the bunuelo isn't Colombian, it is actually West African as they told me it was their nationality's bread. I just can't remember if they said that bread originated in Uganda or Angola.
I have recently moved back to NYC. I think I will return to this place and find out. Fellow Colombians, come and check this place out. Find out where your grandparent's cooking magic originated from. Wepa!“

“Best African food around! If you know how to order, you’re in for a true gift! I usually get the poisson braise (grilled fish) with attieke (“acheke” or ground cassava) and aloko (sweet plantains). Enjoy!“

“It's a simple no frills restaurant, but the food was so good. Sure the servers aren't actors working a day job. But they were genuine to me and most importantly the food was delicious and I left wanting to return. Generous portions at a very reasonable price!“
